I also put the standard airbox back on today, I took the snorkel out of the front where it meets with the panel behind the headlamps to get a bit more sound. I think it is spot on, get the same roar as with the cone but a bit less OTT and car runs much smoother, idle and general pick up from lower revs seems better. ---------- Post added at 4:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:14 PM ---------- Just realised where I've seen your car before, or at least part of it. You had your manifold done at Betta blast? I've been getting stuff done there too!

Ron's Blackberry VR6 - A11 VRX - Getting her back on the road
Hofmiester replied to Hofmiester's topic in Members Gallery
Today I swapped out the cone filter attached to the MAF and put the standard airbox back on to see what it would be like. I'm going for the OEM+ look and so wasn't keen of the filter hanging there. Impressions are very good, I removed the snorkel to the front panel to get a bit more sound and it is just perfect, I get the roar but it isn't stupid like before. The most unexpected thing is how much smooth the car runs. I did also give the MAF connectors a blast with contact cleaner but overall the idle is now smooth, no lumps like before and when you plant the loud pedal, it seems to pull better. Definitely wont be going back to that cone filter! -
Think I have everything now, went with EBC Greenstuff pads for some added bite. Will let you know how it all shapes up :)

One for me please Matt, hopefully will turn up......only kidding! ;) -
Hi Guys, I've found that VW Herritage has the late heater control units for £127, seems pricey but postage is free and when you consider most of these are frail now and go for upwards of £50, i'd rather have new and not have to take it apart again ;) However, I'm not sure if the part in LHD/RHD or if indeed there is a difference. The part number is 535-819-045 and I've snooped in all the normal places I look but can't find any info :( Does anyone have any clues? Cheers Ron

Armourall dash wipes, Matte finish. Works a treat but will probably take a couple of goes to get all the shiney stuff off.

VW Motorsport VSR... how was it originally sold?

I very much doubt it! -

It is actually a sticker, it is on the side of the section with VSR text cast in, probably long gone on most by now. Mine was all rough cast apart from the face around the text which i polished by hand. ---------- Post added at 7:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 7:18 PM ---------- Sticker is just on the front there, to the right of the logo http://www.golf4.de/golf4/101934-vsr-r32.html -
VW Motorsport VSR... how was it originally sold?
Hofmiester replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
On my old VR6 it had been purchased new from VAG in Germany and added to the car. I think the invoice was for around £1400 plus then it needed to be mapped by AMD at another £500. -

Each to their own, VSR keeps the engine looking stock with covers etc which looks better in my view.....not into pimp ;) I'd love to know where mine ended up, it was marked as no 252 -
Hmmm, a bit pricey. I might leave them for now as i had them fitted to my Octavia Vrs and I didnt think there was much of an improvement TBH.

Great, thanks guys. Anyone have a link to the hoses I need?

Hi All, Getting sick of the bad brakes on my VR6 and so plan to upgrade them. Just managed to buy a set of 288mm calipers, carriers with brake lines. Do I just need disks/pads for a MK3 Gti/VR6 or is there anything else? Cheers Ron

BTW, that isnt a VR6 steering wheel. VR6 ones are leather and dont have the metal strip. -

Yep, you are but I've PM'ed Sake3, if he doesn't get back to me by the end of tomorrow, they are yours if you want them. Cheers Ron -
To be honest I think it is pot luck, my last VR6 had to have the engine completely rebuilt at 70K as the bores and rings were buggered, it was rebuilt at AMD. After that, it didnt use a drop right up to 100K when it was stolen :( My current VR6 has 140K on the bottom end, new head fitted at 105K and on 5w-30 it was using about 500ml in 1000 miles (previous owners info) on 10w-40 since I have had it, it hasnt used any in 700 miles.

Bump Does anyone want these indicators now I have provided pics? they are in pretty good nick actually, now I have taken them off and had a closer look. I would laquer over the tint to make them nice and shiney though. Still have DDi dial parts, 10x extended wheel bolts, Corrado sunroof switch and interior lights -
Hi Rob, awe mate no pressure! I know what you mean about the memory, seems I have filled my mind with too much stuff lately. Really appreciate the rad bracket! I fitted the other parts from you this weekend and all looks and works great :) How come you seem to have all the parts, are you breaking one?

I dont think you are asking too much, I suspect your location is a big barrier though. I live in Newcastle (was in London 10 years) in London I would advertise a car and it would be gone in a day, up here in newcastle it seems to take about a month and some price reductions......for you, it will be even worse unless you just happen to have a big Corrado fan aroud the corner. Saything that, I sold my E90 325i to a chap from Elgin without him ever seein it, he just slapped a deposit down and arranged for someone to come pick it up for him. That was 6 weeks into it being for sale and I hadnt had a single bite before that! If it helps, I (probably stupidly) paid £2900 for my Blackberry, with higher milage and a dent in the bonnet plus a whole load of other little bits wrong. Although relatively cheap bits, it has taken time. Most expensive thing was the bonnet and new coolant system. Car ended up costing me about £3600 Pics here https://www.icloud.com/photostream/en-gb/#A1JtdOXmGlG1m0 Another thing you have to be aware of is the mileage, at 110K things start to fail and in my view, i would rather buy a car with 150K on the clock with everything replaced rather than 100K and nothing. For example, my car is on 140K but had a new head, chains, tensioners, clutch etc all done in the last 40K. So if you have history for it, make sure you list it all in the add. If yours had been for sale when I was looking, i would have likely bought it.

Ron's Blackberry VR6 - A11 VRX - Getting her back on the road

Cheers, the powder coat has some really deep sparkle, never had wheels done in this way before and I'm impressed. Looking for other things to get coated now ;) What's next...well I am not 100% happy with the condition of the paint on the wings, there are a lot if fine chips. Plus the bonnet I bought is not quite the same colour and so next big job will be front end respray but it can wait. Next DIY will be stripping the door cards and fitting all new clips and trims as they rattle badly. ---------- Post added at 8:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:30 AM ---------- Also bought a set of 288 calipers and carriers as the brakes feel crap compared to Mk2 octy VRS -
£30 posted? Cheers

Had a good day with the car today, lovely weather up in Newcastle for once. Fitted the throttle pedal stop and replaced the cracked foot rest (thanks Dumptyboy) Cleaned her up to compliment the new rims Photos here https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A1JtdOXmGlG1m0 -
Are you open to offers on the rubbing trims for the doors? I want some but as most folk take them off and throw away, I don't want to pay much for them ;)
