  10. Quality of BMWs is terrible these days. I had a 3 year old 330i m sport a couple of years back. Engine started ticking loudly, dealer didn't want to know. In the end put a video on Twitter and looped in bmw customer service who asked me to take it back to the dealer. Master tech diagnosed cylinder head problem and £3000 engine rebuild......luckily under warrantee but I moved it on the month after. Also in that same year, the PAS pipe burst and left me stuck in the middle of a right hand turn into on coming traffic. Absolutely beautiful car to look at but less reliable than a bloody Ferrari
  11. It was cracking, we took a cruise up to Morpeth and there was a fair for armed forces day so I took him on a rowing boat, bouncy castles etc and then cruised back. He said "can we take a long drive back?" :) bless him. Car was great, almost gotten all the interior rattles out now too which makes the car so much more enjoyable. Moon roof is great, extra light coming in is quality!
  12. Every time I remove something I line the mating edges with felt or foam rubber and steadily its rattling less and less as I make my way trough the car. I've got zero rattled coming from the dash or roof area, but still have so thing coming from the passenger side/rear. Sounds like a loose part inside the door cards...,,ah well, I'll figure it out one day!
  13. Right then, yesterday the new sunroof seal arrived. It was an absolute biatch to fit. Tight as anything and it took me about an hour. Got some very sore hands from pressing it in. Final result has come out well though and no leaks so far (I dumped a jug of water on it) I also fitted some sticky backed foam to replace the perished foam strips on the head liner, and used some sealant on the sunroof drains to make sure they don't pop off and soak the headliner. Fitted a new Ariel seal. Interior all back together, used a bit of felt here and there to prevent rattles and squeaks. This morning I taxed and insured her, ready to take my son out for a drive (he LOVES this car) All washed and ready for this afternoon
  14. As always, this is someone trying to cash in on less knowledgeable owners who haven't been acquainted with TPS yet. They are still available and £56 a set in VAT
  15. Nice one, I'll pop in and sort cash when I come to collect it. Cage not even in yet? He's had the bloody thing three weeks now! He needs to hire someone to help him as he's always swamped
  16. No it's totally different. Shultz is like wax oil, it never actually sets as it is wax. The stone chip is the same as the VW original coating that's sets to being a tough rubberised finish. It dries like this.
  17. Not done many updates lately but I have been making progress :) Goal is to have her on the road for the 1st of May after 6 months of winter restoration. Having sorted the underside, it's now time for the sunroof which packed up last spring. Getting the original out took about an hour which wasn't too bad. Once removed I could see that one of the metal sliding mech parts that slides in the track, had snapped. Cable is fine but the track itself is worn and scored. None of the black coating remains. I'm going to be fitting a very rare seat Toledo mk1 moonroof which I was told is the best fit for the C as the roof profile is almost identical. I paid over the odds for it and didn't see it working so was nervous! Firstly notice that the tracks are spot on, black coating in tact. A good sign. Then I removed the metal roof plate to see how well it matches up. Looks pretty good. Then I spotted a problem, the seal around the mood roof is tatty. I called TPS and discovered that the seal is almost £80! More than the whole roof cost me :( so I decided to try and transfer my metal roof skin over to the moonroof mech but found that they are not compatible. The panel fits fine but the arms for lifting the interior headlining on tilt, are different and so the tilt function wouldn't work properly. Decided to suck it up and buy a new seal which comes tomorrow. Onwards with trial fitting the roof! Firstly, I cleaned the mech with compressed air and then re greased with silicone sunroof grease. Then trial fitted. The moon roof is really heavy, so I removed the glass panel first, lifted the Frame in place, then re-installed the glass and adjusted it to sit flush. It is a bloody good fit, really glad I decided to stick with the moonroof even through the seal was pricey. That's it for now until the seal turns up!
  18. The slide breaks due to the coating wearing out. The coating is very smooth. As soon as it wears, the sliding mech starts to dig into the alloy frame. In my top pic you can see its scored. I did a lot of research on this as I don't want to be doing this job twice ;)
  19. Yeah, the silver is basically where the sliding part has worn through the black coating on the rail. What you can't see in the pic is that the silver one is black at the end where the roof doesn't often go. Make sure the one you buy is not worn through to silver
  20. One thing you need to check is the state of the guides. If you look at this first pic, shows the wear of the Black material of my broken roof. The second pic shows that the Toledo roof guides are not worn. Make sure you check these!
