With the corrado almost 25 years old free tax would be nice?
Stonejag replied to elliott's topic in General Car Chat
My favourite statistic is that buying a Prius and running it for 100,000 miles causes more environmental damage than buying a Hummer H3 and driving it for 300,000 miles! (source). Mostly this is because of the huge amounts of nickel in the Prius battery - here's what it now looks like where they mine it from: I'm definitely not going to feel bad about keeping an older car running! Wheel advice Re staggered offset and wheel choice

I blame the previous owner, who was as mad as a balloon! Even worse I didn't realise for ages so when I replaced the worn fronts with 205/40/17 and rotated them I ended up with 215/40/17 on the front :bonk: Yes, it was utterly terrible! Luckily I got my Ultraleggeras back from refurb and fitted earlier, now I have 195/45/16s all round which is much more sensible! Stance looked a bit funny afterwards though  -
Could be a fuse actually, noticed my horn has also stopped working :( I still have a bunch of mid-90s OEM fuses installed and they're incredibly brittle. I'll get them all swapped out tomorrow when it's light again... Stone

Signed, chances of it happening firmly pinned against the 0% mark though :( Imagine how many crappy Escorts would fall into this if it was rolling (as originally planned...) Stone -
Mine did that for a while. First they both worked. Then the driver's side button could lower the passenger's window, but only if the passenger side button was used to crank it up and down briefly first. Then the passenger side button stopped working. Now neither button can lower it! Still not got around to fixing it, so I'd be interested to find out why too :) When I use the driver's side button I hear relays clicking from behind me, in the region of the petrol tank - relevant? Wheel advice Re staggered offset and wheel choice

I had 215s on the front for a while (don't ask), really don't recommend it! At the moment I have 205/40/17s and they're still too big - I've got 195/45/16s on the Ultraleggeras so it should improve a lot once I've swapped them over. -
Hi all, Has anyone got a duff VR6 coilpack I could have? Doesn't need to work at all, can be cracked to death and the ICM can be fried - in fact I'd only need the back plate, not interested in the rest. I'm just after the loom connector so I can experiment with replacements for the igniter and coils. At the moment all the coil replacement projects require a working VAG ICM so I'd rather use one that's inexpensive and still going to be available in future rather than butchering an OEM part for each one - would be nice to have another route to go down to replace the coilpacks altogether :) Happy to pay postage and bung a few quid in the hosting fund for your trouble. Cheers, Stone

That would be awesome, thank you! I'll drop you a PM to arrange. The background is that there's been a slight coolant leak ever since I got it in August - maybe a litre every three weeks or so. It was hugely improved with a dose of K-Seal but still leaking very slowly - my guess was that they just disturbed the sealant repair as there's a thick rim of copper particles around the water pump end of the crack pipe (which is also snapped into chunks ). How awkward a job is it to do the water pump? Can pick one up at GSF tomorrow - are the metal-impeller Febi ones any cop? Cheers, Stone

I liked the obviously-fake bit at 0:35 where your door handle worked :D

Have you slackened off the tensioner bolts for any reason? I've got the top tensioner bolt threaded through my CDA mount and it squeals furiously if I don't do it back up quite tight enough when I disassemble things (takes a lot more torque than you might think!). That's on a VR6 btw, similar deal with the other engines too though? Stone

Wow, 4 years, top quality thread resurrection! Personally I'd prefer one that said 'My other car is also a Corrado' ;)

Well, I got the wheels and they look fab! I'll stick some pics in the Suppliers forum when my phone is charged. One slight drawback in that he put the tyres on wrong though - I have two Proxes R tyres and two Proxes 4 tyres but he's given me both Proxes 4 as 'left' and both Proxes R as 'right' so I'll have to nip back tomorrow to correct it before I can put them on. Did get a cash discount though ;) Got the C back from garage-of-doom: they did install my polished manifold, engine cover and thermostat/housing/crack pipe/aux pump, but it looks like they've disturbed the seal as I now have coolant dripping from my main water pump (and steaming out of the bonnet) whenever I stop  They did randomly give me a new set of HT leads and I didn't have to pay for the inlet gaskets so maybe we're square?

I'm after the flat cover that goes over the heater dials in a facelift dash. Has anybody got some knackered dials that I could nick it from? Doesn't have to be in good condition on the front, just need one fast and preferably cheap :) Cheers Stone

I really need to stop spending money on the car but having looked around after the recent excitement I've been badly tempted by some Konig Forward wheels. Anybody got pics of some on a C? I have orange calipers so I think they'd match nicely... Stone

Further to above: when I tried replacing the hub I went through three of them that didn't fit before just getting an OEM wheel ;) Unless you're really attached to the Momo I'd just flog it and go original.

Buy a new one? Should only cost about £20. Beware: some of the eBay ones advertised as fitting Corrados, don't! Think they could be Mk3 ones - fit the spline but don't make contact with the horn slip ring. Double-check before forking out :)

My big sis lives in Leeds so makes a good excuse to join in. I'll be there :) Stone -
Have you got a multimeter? If you measure across the battery terminals while it's running you should get about 14.5V - which would mean a working alternator. Could have had corroded battery contacts that only made acceptable contact after you disconnected and reconnected them, maybe. If the spoiler works on the switch but doesn't raise at speed then it'd be either spoiler control module or the speed signal from the clocks to the control module. That's genius, why didn't I think of that

Good choice on the wheels, mine should come back from refurb on Tuesday

International bank transfers aren't that hard to sort out - you need the IBAN number for their bank account, then you have to go into your local branch to set it up since I don't know any banks that will let you do it online. HSBC charge £20 per transfer, your mileage may vary :)

Should have the car back Tuesday evening so I could fit them and pop round on Wednesday if you want a look in person. Always got time for a fellow blackberry owner :camp:

Have a look on eBay, yours for the princely sum of £13! Yep, they're plastic! link Stone
