1. Right, managed to check that ABS controller connector and it looks very clean, tidy and super dry. I cannot see how water could be anywhere near that controller, well check the pictures: So next move is to organize another scan with vag com (may just invest into buying that cable then) and also check things with multimeter. I'm bit on a lost side with this, lack of tools and proper place - I live in flat so car on a designated parking place outside my flat :( Also ABS light was ON today all time, even though yesterday it was working just fine.
2. Yes, it was checked with VAG com. This was indicated by faulty rear sensor by my mechanic. Like I said it did fix the problem for 2 weeks+ solid - was no issues whatsoever. That is why I was surprised that the issue re-appeared out of nowhere again. But then... it's intermittent so maybe I was just lucky for those first 2 weeks. I will check today the connector on the controller and will see (so it is OK just to disconnect and then reconnect again the plug, I don't have to follow any reset procedure or anything, right?). Yeah, you can tell I'm uber noob ^^ Can always take it to mechanic again, but that means taking day-off and such ... so if there is any work I can do during weekends it's always a plus. Also I like to pick up the screwdriver and get personal with my car ... but I'm always so afraid of making things worse than they are. ehh need to grow up some manhood me thinks :)
3. Yes I know, this has been discussed in bazillion of threads but .. I couldn't find answer for my issue. In short. When I bough my car ABS light was ON all the time. Had a mechanic to look at it and after replacing Rear ABS sensor - my ABS was working fine, hooray :D It was simply working - was ON during ignition and then after few seconds it was OFF and stayed like that during driving. After 2 weeks or so (after repair) I was waiting for my misses (was not driving but engine was running) and the ABS light came up... so I switched off the engine and started it up again - and the light stayed ON all the time :( On next day, it was fixed again, ABS light worked as normal - no issues. For few days it was just fine, but then it just comes up and stays ON. There is no pattern to it. Am I correct in thinking controller and pump is fine and I must have some electrical gremlin? I mean replacing sensor did fix the problem for like 2 weeks solid - after that, it's quite intermittent - and the light doesn't go OFF on some days, mainly it does so far. Would it be beneficial to replace these 3 existing sensors - I bet these have never been replaced since the car was new? Or rather search somewhere else - if so any hints? My MOT is in like 7-8 months so plenty of time - but I was so happy with the ABS fixed - that orange light on your dash is quite distracting :( ps. I wonder if damp/water (as in rain) has anything to do with my issue? I noticed slight damp on my passenger carpet today - but took carpet off and ABS controller was super dry, looked like new to be honest - and that little wet patch was maybe like 10cm2 not sure what the source yet - will research tomorrow in more details. ps2. Last question (just crossed my mind) - I only checked the ABS controller from outside - I didn't disconnected it. Can I just disconnect it and then put it back as it was? Or there is any procedure I need to follow? thanks guys
4. I've watched "The Shining" tonight on my PC. I forgot how good this movie is.. it's been a long time since I watched it for the first time. Jack Nicholson is a right psycho in that role. Absolutely must-see-movie, I bet most of you seen it already but it's 9/10 from me... "Heeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrre's JOHNNY!" :)
5. A bit of graveyard work with digging out some old topic but ... I am in need of a driver seat handle like the one mentioned above. Been on lookout on ebay for quite some time and nothing shows up :( The other day bought such item: "VW,GOLF,JETTA,CORRADO,POLO,GTI,AUDI 80 COUPE,S2,MK1,MK2,MK3,SEAT PULLS" which on the picture looks the same as mine, but in real life is slightly different and will not fit without some major DIY hacks. Anyone have such item, and willing to sell?
6. ahh amazing posts, something I couldn't find anywhere and was actually looking for. Now I know which one's which, thanks :) Thought, mine 1996 2.0 16v came with Westwoods not Estorils, but could be cause it's a late model.. dunno.
7. I was in a similar boat as you are now.. however I planned to spend a bit more than a grand for my new car. Well my budget was £2500. Exactly a month ago I bought my 2l 16v, overall nice condition, full service, MOT's, paperwork, 2nd owner yadi yada... all good really. Still spent over £300 pounds on some repairs so far.. yeah Corrado ain't cheap - it is an old car now. People who owned the car for long time already know this all to well, newbies like me - learning it hard way :) I suppose the idea is that, the longer you have the car... you spend money on it all the time but also more things are fixed once and for all. So longer you have it less repairs in the end you end up with = less money it costs you to run. Don't get me wrong I'm very new to all this, so my advice might not be of any use, but £700 Corrado, is probably like another £1000+ in repairs in first year.. unless you can repair it in your own garage by yourself - still parts cost money and also downtime. Wish you all best, it is really a fantastic car and worth money and hassle to invest too (however doubt it will ever pay back). I do not know what's in it to make it so special, it just is.. it makes my morning journey to work so enjoyable, it's just worth it :)
8. Yeah I'm liking it very much too. A very nice idea. .. would that not be Johnny 20v ? ^^
9. Don't think so. My windows are still fogging up, but I know there is product called Rain-x Anti Fog, it's worth giving a try...
10. Quick update: after using that Rain-x 2in1 product. I can say: a) it doesn't create smear/smudge like effect for me b) the greater travelling speed the better it works. On slow speeds wipers are still a must. Also when there is just light rain it also doesn't work very well c) standard Corrado wipers (retro fit and not aero blades) work quite well with Rainx applied - it's actually massively better than no Rainx at all quite impressed so far :)
11. I will also take x2 please. PM sent. thanks
12. According to the picture above my car would need replacement part number: 191 906 091H ... but I am struggling to find such part.. well ebay list following part: click According to description it's a direct replacement for: 191906092, 191906092C, 191906092G, 191906092M, 533906092N, 533906092P, 357906092C but my number 191 906 091H is not listed there. Yet on the item description it says it is "Fuel Pump & Strainer for in Tank VW Corrado 16v", is that mean there are different models of such pump available. I need to get something fairly quickly as my car started to misbehave again - this time almost on full tank. It started to choke-like then engine just died. Tried to start and no effect. Waited maybe 5 mins, and started fine - again could hear the buzzing and car was running but was something obviously not right. Switched off for like 30mins and started again - was able to drive few miles and no buzzing and no choking-like-effects. It really puzzles me. I just need to get that part and get this replaced asap.
13. Saturday was raining all day so didn't get chance to do any cleaning at all. This morning woke up at 6am - to see live Japan GP - and then tried that Rain-x product on all windows, also used it on front/rear lights. Now, need to wait for rain and will see how it really work. edit: would rather prefer no rain - but need to test so, a quick shower could do... after that NO rain please ^^
14. OK so I am going to resurrect this thread a bit. I went down to Hallfords yesterday and got myself a spray-like-bottle of 2in1 rain-x product. It is the one with glass cleaner and reppelent in one. Do I need to clean my front wind shield upfront with some other product and then apply rain-x, or just don't bother and spray the thing and wipe alone and it will do? Also, some people seem to claim that once rain-x on front glass it can create smear-like effect. Is that true? I do not have any wiper mod's at all, just original stuff that came with car... and damn, these are pretty much useless... so I guess I have nothing to loose.
15. Thanks to C5 OEM. Steering wheel received as described, well packaged and with speedy delivery. Top man.
16. oweng60 you were right. This morning (yeah I'm an early bird sometimes) my car started first time. No odd buzzing, everything absolutely fine. So taking advantage of the occasion I took it to the petrol station and fill the tank up. Came back home - again no buzzing all good. So it looks like I am in need of a new fuel tank lift pump - anyone can help out with the part number for my car?
17. I shall check this in the morning then. Have a petrol station quite close so can always pop-in with a plastic tank to get some more juice. I did my shopping today - plenty of different cleaning products for my car - to get it properly cleaned this Weekend... and wham something else takes priority. Starting to get a feeling my car is like a cat - afraid of water or something ^^
18. Right, if I understood you correctly, after the procedure you mentioned the rubber seal is in fact perishing. I will need a new "Fuel Tank Lift Pump" (the one in boot) or Fuel Pump unit (the one under car)? Thanks a lot for the step-by-step guide... I'm totally new to Corrado so that's priceless actually.
19. Hi, My Corrado started to show it's paws... here's the story: After work did my shopping and was driving back to home (doing maybe 40ish mph). Suddenly I felt like a drop of power, my first reaction was that I may put wrong gear or something. Car like "jumped" a bit, so I depressed clutch, and tried if it's definitely on 3rd gear (and it was) so I released slowly the clutch and car felt bit erratic again "like it was was choking". I slowed down, put on the 2nd gear and ... it all went back to normal. Tried shifting on different gears and all was good. Got scared but had no more issues on my way back home (another 1-2 miles). When I stopped and waited for my entrance electric gate to open I heard like "buzzing" from the back of the car. I parked on my spot and there was quite loud buzzing which was coming out of the rear wheel area (driver side). Car was still idling, engine was running fine but the buzzing continued. I switched off engine and pull the key out. Then put the key back again and twisted it, and again I could hear that loud buzzing noise. I tried to start the car, and it started but felt like it's loosing power and is just about to die. So I turned the key and switched it off. Decided to to my research first and look at it it the morning. Now it looks like it is either the fuel pump, fuel filter or fuel relay...? anything I could have missed? It seems pump is working as I can hear it priming after turning key. One thing worth adding is that this is the first time my fuel tank is fairly low on fuel.. it's not on red line, but it's below half the tank for sure. Not sure if it makes any difference thought. My car is 1996 N'reg 2.0l 16v, any idea what would be first plan of attack? I will try in the morning if it's misplaced fuel pump relay in the box (as maybe it popped out). My plan in the morning is to get more fuel and if I manage to start the car (and it will be driveable) and then try to organize some garage work on it... anything else I can do?
20. Can someone confirm that steering wheel from the first post: ... will fit 1996 2.0l 16v without any issues? thanks
21. Silver Corrado spotted on motorway driving from Leeds area towards Wakefield direction. To be honest my first Corrado spotting since VW Harewood festival ;)
