  1. i know a guy who has a 280bhp n/a CTR that runs the 1/4 mile in 13.1 seconds consistently!!! hes going to RWYB on Sept 25th at Santa Pod hoping to get into the 12 sec mark if anyone fancies a look! 8) Alex
  2. not wanting to bait another tirade but isnt the CTR 2.0 turbo? how is it impressive that a 2.0 turbo has the same torque as a 2.0 N/A? no mate the CTR is N/A  Alex
  3. mate i wasnt intending to offend, just give my 2p worth ;) each to thier own is what i say....if you like it then keep it! it will produce more drag tho so bare that in mind..... if you want more 'show' than 'go' stick with the original setup like you have in your sig, otherwise if performance is what your after turn it back to std ;) Alex
  4. It's in the gearing mate. VR gearing is LOOOOONG compared to a Civic's. The Civic needs short gearing to make the most of it's stingey portion of torque. Past 70, the Rhonda's lack of grunt it is it's downfall and they will be rowing the gearbox and bouncing it off the limiter to keep up with a VR riding it's effortless wave of torque. And yes I have driven a CTR and yes I have raced a CTR in my VR, both standard and shricked etc. When schricked, the win was decisive but when standard, mine didn't have so much of an advantage but he couldn't get past. Not even going to bother with them now I'm charged. They are rapid from a standing start, but are hard work, and frankly boring, in the mid-range upwards.....and turn the radio up if you don't like the sound of a sewing machine reverberating around the cabin obtrusively. I'm far from biased, I've driven loads of cars, including ones WAAAAAY better than any Corrado can ever hope to be, but I really do not see the fuss with Jap stuff at all.....perhaps maybe a Litchfield Type 25 impreza.   thats pretty funny Kev the bit you saying your far from bias!   totally sounds like it  if you think that the CTR is boring as well as hard to keep on cam then you obviously dont know how to drive it properly! also how does the car have a stingey portion of torque at 145lb/ft which i may add is pretty much the same as any 2L N/A car!?? im not going to stoop to a 'my cars faster than yours' as afik isnt racing shunned upon on this forum the same as it is on the CTR one??? its more like once you get past 110 that the CTR loses its guts and thats mainly to do with aerodynamics because its such a wedge! i find that doing 70-80mph i can drop it form 6th to 4th so its comes just on cam and leave most things standing on the morotrway with no need to 'bounce it off the limiter' as you put it! driving TO the limiter is how you drive a CTR or any other Vtec car for that matter mate, otherwise there is no point having it! also if you know how to drive it properly then you can change 'before' there is any need to hit the limiter  now these Vtec engined cars arnt the sort of cars you can just jump into and get the best out of straight away like a VR.... you have to learn 'how to drive it' properly before you get the best out of it! it took me about 8 weeks to get it properly! a modded VR is most definately a contender for being faster but your having a laugh mate if you think a standard one is    as with your supercharged VR tho i dont know what your running or the power increase etc but im sure that you would have a job to keep up with a supercharged CTR running 290bhp on standard internals with an 8850rpm rev limit!!!! i also know of a few that are still n/a and do very low 13's on the strip! why cant people just praise different styles of engineering for their achievements rather than slag one off against the other all the time! i love both of my cars for very different reasons but im not going to say that one is better than the other cos they are totally different machines and it would be like comparing chalk with cheese! FI or a hefty great lump of a block is easy enough to for a car manufacturer to slam into a car but at least the japs have had a go at something different and are showing everyone what true engineering can achieve from a n/a motor...... i think its pretty impressive myself! all you had to say is 'i dont like rice rockets cos i dont like the highly strung revs and the lesser delivery of low down torque' and that would have sufficed for the rest of us to get the message! at the end of the day yes its the gearing that will make a difference but so what! working the box makes you feel like your 'really' driving a car, one that you can point and squirt like an automatic is 'boring' if you ask me! no wonder dubbers clash with others if your going to be as naievely opinionated as this! on the CTR forum there are lots of people with Clio 172's, BMW M3's, Pug GTI180's, Impreza's and Evo's etc. but thats because people dont go slagging the rest off to alienate anyone non-Type R from being there! how many forum members are on here that dont have a VW?? i suspect not many for the exact opposite reason! as a moderator Kev i would have thought that you would have put a little more thought into your answers and be able to set a better example than what you just have! Alex
  5. you can easily do a bypass with a bit of flexi tubng from halfords along with a couple of zip ties etc...... i wouldnt bother with buyng a kit if your going to replace it soon. Alex
  6. oooh fook! Jabba only do a 6 month warrenty mate so its bye bye for your hard earned! did you have a smaller pulley? was it a std charger? were you running an induction kit? just trying to think of other reasons rather than blaming jabba straight off :? Alex
  7. im with you matt  i take it you have had a Vtec at some point have you mate? you seem to know your stuff! was the 1.5 JDM engine the ZC though or was it a D-Series? i already spotted that the SI-R is 170bhp mate as i said '10bhp' more than the UKDM one in one of my other posts ;) Alex Alex
  8. the dark side is a very enticing one i have to say! i love its high revving powerband 8) the EK9 is bound to hammer you up to 70 tho seeing as its 0-60 is 5.7 secs ;) that and 185bhp out of a 1595cc engine is pretty damn impressive though isnt it! 8) once it gets up to 5th gear though it will even out cos its got pretty close gear ratios to compensate for the lower torque! if its a CRX VTI i would say its the straights that your going to have to floor it on more and get the power down early out of the bends to ensure as much speed on exit as possible! its a tough one though cos at the end of the day i know that for example if your in 2nd in the G60 then its likely to be 3rd gear at the same speed in my TypeR just before it comes on cam at 5800rpm, otherwise its at about 6500-7000rpm in 2nd with about 1000-1250k rpm left to go so both cars can get the power down easily but its the way that they do it! thats the TypeR though dont forget! the VTI isnt anywhere near as quick ;) Alex
  9. LMAO! erm..... i have no idea mate!  i was just trying to give a bit of honda knowledge seeing as i have one as well as the G no point saying about the G as everyone knows what its capable of on here! i would say it'll be close Alex
  10. right the B16A1 was introduced in 1991 by the looks of it into the CRX VTI and is 150bhp as you stated before, info found here: http://www.cr-x.org/home/jdmspecs.html as carrot can see the JDM SI-R does in fact have an extra 10bhp over the UKDM one ;) basically if its a VTI its a B16 tho so he could be running anything under the bonnet ...........to get it up to about 195ish bhp he could have easily dropped a set of cams in from an EK9..... thats if it is a VTI, if it isnt then maybe there isnt much to worry about cos it will have a D-Series engine with 130bhp, which has bugger all modding potential! good luck! Alex
  11. no offence taken matt, which i why i corrected myself in the post above yours, bracketing where i got it wrong ;) AFIK tho the CRX Coupe (glass back) and the 2 seater Del-Sol style had a 160bhp engine tho? How come the EP2 Civic Sport has a Vtec engine then that doesnt have a 3rd lobe if all Vtec engines have tripple lobe cams? EDIT: im with you on the twin/tripple lobe thing! Civic Sport only has Vtec on the exhaust not the inlet as well then? Alex
  12. ok so explaining myself more clearly seeing as our resident newbie 'Carrot' doesnt want to contribute unless its negative! ALL THE BLOCKS TALKED ABOUT ARE THE SAME!!!!!! its the head that is different! B16A1 was in the Honda CRX VTI (UKDM) which was 160Bhp @ 7600rpm and 111 lb/ft of torque @ 7000rpm (so how was i wrong???) B16A1 was also found in the Civic VTI (not wrong again) B16B was in the Civic TypeR EK9 (i was wrong and realised i got this mixed up after posting, with the DC2 Integra TypeR) this was 184bhp @ 8200rpm and 118 lb/ft of torque @ 7500 rpm no such thing as a B16c (sorry) B18c5 was in the Honda Integra TypeR DC2, 195Bhp @ 8000rpm and 130 lb/ft of torque @ 7500 rpm (which i knew but had no need to post so not wrong again) now the thing with the B-Series engines is that all blocks and heads appart from those on the B20 and B21 engines are interchangeable as well as being able to drop say EK9 B16b cams into a B16A1 engine with no problems! (definately right) now all i said was the 2 derivatives of 1.6 the Vtec and non-Vtec i didnt say which block it has and at no time did i say the non-Vtec is a B16!! (so not wrong again) the SOHC Vtec 1.6 is a D15A1 engine (88-91) or D16Z6 engine (92-95) that was in the CRX ESi!!!!! the cam lobe thing i was way off on! only a tripple lobe was introduced in the current Civic TypeR wthin the i-Vtec DOHC K20 engines! (totally wrong) now can someone explain to me how i was wrong with 'nearly all of it' as it was put  its always easier knowing than trying to explain! Alex
  13. ok so if im talking b0llox then why dont you be kind enough to corect me fo the benefit of others? nice 1st pst as well btw  Alex
  14. i would say lose it, prefer it with the standard one back on..... get rid of your high boot spoiler at the same time cos thats gonna give easily as much drag and i think it looks a bit Chav too imo  Alex
  15. the imports JDM were higher BHP (@175bhp std) than the UKDM CRX's due to a different cam profile and also inlet and exhaust manifold but when you say 1.6 Vtec there are a number of variations..... you can get an SOHC Vtec 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 now but back then i think it was only the 1.5 and 1.6 available in both SOHC and DOHC! the only difference being with the 2 derivatives of the DOHC is whether it is a tripple or double lobe cam which gives the main difference in the performance! the one to watch out for is if he has the CRX 1.6 VTI as this one is 160Bhp but saying that it only has 110lb/ft of torque so as far as the twisties go although the CRX is far more nimble unless you keep it on cam then its going to be sluggish as hell! saying that the cam on them is far more agressive than today's Vtec engines with the cam profile changing lower at 6400rpm and topping out at 8250rpm so there is a fair bit of a powerband there! 8) the reason why its so rapid is the CRX VTI (triple lobe cams) has the same engine block as the very rare Civic Type R EK9 which is Jap import only and has 187bhp from a 1.6 Vtec DOHC lump called the B16c5 ! the CRX has a slightly different derivative the B16a, the same as the last model Civic VTI! i would say if he has had it for a bit he certainly knows how to drive it and will definately give you a run for your money! Alex
  16. yeah i didnt really notice ether, sorry  Alex
  17. ok i will take a look...... Alex
  18. i will have to give it a go when the car is back from the body shop cos its having a full respray at the moment but i dont have a sunroof.... would say its about a 5 second delay on the windows tho. 1 goes up fine but the other doesnt cos the 45 secs are up by the time the 1st one is shut! i havnt actually timed it tho so it might be the alarm not sending a 45 sec pulse Alex
  19. well mine certainly doesnt, the windows are quite slow :? locks it instantly but there is a delay before the windows start to go up like when you turn the key in the lock and hold it until the windows start to go up. Alex
  20. the arming pulse doesnt last long enough to do that tho, 45 secs is only enough to lock the doors and do one window :( Alex
  21. oh fook....... how the hell do i get my full closuer to work on both windows then? :? Alex
  22. erm..... Porsche Carrera GT drove past my dad and i when i was visiting my family in Tennessee at christmas! sounded wild! 8) Alex
  23. well at least it wasnt through mechanical failure.......... moral of the story 'dont let your muppet friends near it again'  i feel for you though mate, seriously  i just managed to get hold of a G-lader for 300 quid tho off a bloke on the Edition 38 forum so keep your eyes peeled  its done 10k miles and is a stage 2 rebuild 8) Alex
  24. oh right so induction kits are bad new then are they? how about a drop in panel filter? does this cause the same problems as say an open cone kit? what about removing the snorkel off the filter box, does this cause any adverse effects? am i best to stick to the standard panel filter? im pretty sure that my last one blew through prolonged ingestion of fine sandy particles fro living in desert climates and i dont want this happening again :? cheers, Alex
  25. hiya Gavin, no he didnt charge any more for sorting the full closure...... i dont have a sunroof either so im not sure whether that would have cost more to do or not :? he had to extend the arming pulse to 45 seconds in the end cos i have a ropey window control module so at the moment if you press both window switches then only 1 goes up  so this happens with the full closure too...... im getting a new electric window control module tho so hopefully that will solve the problem? Alex
