  1. Thanks boost - waiting patientily :D
  2. What about the blue and white wire thats near the ISV towards the back of the engine. Does anyone know where its supposed to go.....I had some work done to my car & I notcie it's not connected to anything now. (1.8 16v)
  3. Im after a new exhaust for my 1.8 16v From what I have briefly read here Supersprint and Magnex seem to be reasonable good and not overly loud, but loud enough. Would someone write down a quick list here of exhausts from noisest to least noisy ?
  4. Update here purely incase anyone does a search in the future with the same problem. Changed the stalk (54 quid new) and it works fine now. Changing it is wee buns..... 1.Remove plastic covering immediately below steering wheel (3 screws). 2.Remove the rubber covering in center of steering wheel where you push the horn and then pull out the two wires off this rubber covering. 3.Remove nut holding on the steering wheel (23mm) 4.Pull steering wheel off. 5.Remove the 3 screws that you now see on the indicator stalk and then undo the electrical connectors at the back of the wiper stalk and indicator stalk (2 on the left and 2 on the right. 6.With a 10mm spanner undo the nut thats holding on the steering wheel height adjuster and pull it out. 7.Remove top plastic covering up and over the hazzard light switch to give you move room (no screws, it just snaps on and off). 8.Pull the indicator/full beam stalk off. 9.Reach in away below under the steering wheel and to the right to unplug the final electrical connecter running from the wiper (red, white n blue colourings on the end of it). 10.Pull off the wiper stalk. Now just reverse the process with your new stalk!
  5. Was just told today by VW that theres 373 bypass valves on back order for the whole UK. I've been waiting on my new one for 2 months...anyone else here on the waiting list?
  6. My wipers started going on by themselves when I started the car the other morning (I got them stopped after wiggling the stalk). Then last night when the rain came on whilst I was driving I put the wipers on and then the washers started spraying up at the windscreen and no matter what I done the washers and wipers wouldnt stop until I got home and turned the engine off. Would it be more likely to be the stalk at fault or the relay needing changing? Edit:This is not an April fools joke :D
  7. Is it easy to remove the throttle body? Ive never done it before - any tips for doing it or things to look out for?
  8. I put a new throttle cable on last summer and it's been ok until recently. I'll have a look at the adjuster and take it from there. Thanks lads.
  9. To be specific, a 1.8 16v. Mine always idled just below 1000rpm but now if im driving and I have to stop at lights or something I thought she sounded like she was running a lot quicker and louder. I looked at the rpm and sure enough the rpms are more or less sitting spot on the 1000rpm or just above it now (not just below it which sounded more natural). If I put my foot under the accelerator pedal and pull it up she comes back down to just below the 1000rpm mark. Can anyone confirm for me that the correct idle speed should be just be below 1000rpm and give me a clue as to why she has suddenly started running richer? I know somethings not quite right.
  10. It doesnt look sporty and it sure doesnt look sexy. What a balls up. Im happy though - means our rado's are still the coolest car VW ever made.
  11. I've done some extensive research on the forum today and before I spend money on a new bypass valve I would like a few opinions from you guys. Im only getting hot air when actually driving my 'Rado - it slowly returns to cold when I let it idel. All the hoses are hot so it appears its not an air lock, although I did take cap off and let it idle and massage the hoses etc anyway (made no difference). My water temp is fine also - it's sitting around 90 degrees and the fan kicks in once it gets to 100ish. So I think I need another new bypass valve but not 100% sure (only changed last one 2yrs ago). Could anyone shed some light on this before I go to the dealers?
  12. I'll put it on the ramps and check bushes more thoroughly. I forgot to say that the noise appears a lot more when theres people sitting in the back - especially when sitting in the back left.
  13. Im not getting a metallic ping type noise. But that sounds like a broken spring perhaps? I had a Saxo that had that prob.
  14. Yeah you might call it a bang, but I call it a dunk type noise :D - Either way it is horrendous and I want it fixed. Would like an idea of what the prob is before leaving her in. Could worn suspension bushing cause it?
  15. This post might not be under the correct section, but here's a prob I've had since I owned my 'rado. When I drive over speed bumps (yes i go slowly) or if I drive the left hand side of the car over things like small potholes, a very bumpy road etc... there's a really desperately annoying "dunk" type noise coming from the rear left wheel/suspension. Theres absolutley nothing in the boot thats making the noise, so I was wondering does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it?
  16. Cant answer your questions, but sounds cool what you've done. What sorta horse power you think turboing it gives you?
  17. Thanks Tom - good man, lemme know.
  18. Rounded, not tapered I think - theyre a set of Speedlines. I'd take as many as you have Toad if thats ok - had to take the front wheel off the other week and the heads rounded on a few of the nuts so Im gonna change a lot of them. I've bought one or two things off you before, cant remember your paypal address though. Let me know what you want for them.
  19. I need to get some wheel nuts for my 1.8 16v - if im going down to the scrappers does anyone know off hand which cars would have the same size wheel-nuts ?!
  20. Thought I'd post this pic to show where the leak is apparantly coming from (I say apparantly - it's really the only place I can see thats wet) In this pic it's just after I was driving so it doesn't look wet in this picture as it was evaporating off, but you can still see it is damp. This is from standing over the engine and taking a photo of the back and to the nearside of the engine. Is this a likely place to leak from if it was the head gasket? "Davidwort" i'll give her a cleaning up and watch for any leaks near pipes like you say over the next lot of days just to see if there's anything else that I've missed.
  21. Saw this on ebay this morning - and no I don't know the seller or anything. It seems to be everything you'd need for a 1.8T conversion. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-TT-1-8T-BAM- ... dZViewItem What do you's reckon of the price, bit steep? Also it does include EVERYTHING that youd need doesn't it?
  22. Riley & Toad thanks for that information - wish I understood engines better though :? . Can you explain why I would need to change the cam belt and pully whilst getting all the other work done you both mentioned? I had them changed about 10,000 miles ago so they should still be fine. What exactly would the point be behind changing them again so soon. Also if I were reseating the valves would this be likely to improve performance ? If so by how much roughly.
  23. Did you not bother getting the head skimmed "Corrado_16v"
  24. Im losing some coolant - (falls between max and min every 100-150miles) it appears to be coming out the back of the engine and evaporating - it's not getting into the oil) - I also having to top up my oil occasionaly too (can see it leaking a little bit near the plugs). I've been told that the head gaskett is most likely on its way out and to just keep an eye on it for the time being as it's not that bad yet. My questions are - Do you have to get the head skimmed when changing the head gasket (engine hasnt overheated or anything) Do you have to get the compression tested How many hours do you think it would take for a skilled mechanic to complete Is there anything else you'd think is worth getting done while the heads off ? (I've been told getting the rings changed would be a good idea) Thanks for any info
  25. It actually is a brand new cable I put on 3 months ago. If I floor it she takes about half a second for the power to drop off - not nice and sharp just as it should be. I didn't have any spray grease but I put a thin application of lithium grease (just from a tub not a can) round it. Ill give her a drive tomorrow and see if I notice any difference.
