  1. Really pleased for you Stan! Sounds like one hell of car you have. Got the looks, got the power. Lucky sod!
  2. Yep Stan, popping across the water is a possibility. Would take a good few weeks at least I guess to do a conversion wouldn't it? Ask him for a rough quote and see what he says if you don't mind then. Thanks!
  3. Either, or, RMN Someone or somewhere who has experience of the 1.8T conversion. I'm not doing it anytime soon - just checking out my options.
  4. Right, maybe a bit of a long shot, but does anybody know of anywhere over here that specifically does these? I know a couple of good mechanics who specialise with VW, Audi etc but just wondering if anyone here knows of any other options.
  5. Cheers, was just wondering ! And yeah Coxy I haven't experienced the two engines.
  6. If the 24V is 204hp and the R32 is about 236 - 250 odd hp why have people been saying in this thread that they are so much better than the 1.8T which can be 225hp ?
  7. Hey dub you can always buy a new sill from VW - they're pretty cheap.
  8. One of us could go in your place & pretend to be you.
  9. Depending who does it the price will vary pretty drastically. 2k+ for most places. 3k+ for most top ones. Could be cheaper over in England but I don't imagine it could be that different. I spoke to the manager of a place called Rathkenny Motors a couple of years ago. Big top car dealers & body repair place over here. For 4-5k they would of stripped all the old paint off...brought it right down to the metal - taken the bumpers, lights, all trim off. Basically just leaving the car as a shell and then spraying it. Then drying it off not with the ovens that most places use, but with some sophisticated laser dryer, lol. Sounds fancy eh? Thats as good a job as you'll get but like I said 4-5k & that's a lot of money to most people. 90% of people go for a 2k+ job and have a paint job to be proud of.
  10. Yeah the 1.8T (Audit TT) engine fits apparantly. I'm seriously considering this option myself.
  11. Wee note of advice Critical_Mass - If they're going to be respraying everything make sure they're not going to just be taking off the black rubber & plastic trim and then resticking it after cos it never goes back on properly ! Top companies should ensure that only brand new trim is put on once the spraying's done. And again, top companies should strip the whole car down. Just make sure you know before booking it in. Don't get it sprayed without having the place recommeded or seeing their work first. It's a pain but will be worth it. £1200 sounds very cheap for a full respray, but check them out and see what they're like.
  12. Hey wwdeviant Taking the cover panel off won't wreck it. They're lil plastic screw type things. Just use a star screw driver and give em a twist and each one will come off with little bother.
  13. I like what you've done with the black plastic surrounding the back number plate. The colour coding looks really well. I wasn't sure if it would look good but it does.
  14. I wouldn't risk the spoiler being broken by letting it operate from frozen. It's surely asking for trouble and from what I've read would be a total bugger to fix. Some warm water in the morning before driving sounds like a good idea to me.
  15. I'll try & save myself a few quid then & have a go at it. Cheers for the help
  16. Hmm well I've done a search on brake servo's and have an idea what they are now. Just to clarify though,...apart from being a fiddley job, is it just a straight-forward matter of taking the old hose off and connecting the new one? No bleeding or anything to be done at any stage or anything like that?
  17. Seems strange cos my brakes are fine, (or at least they were a month ago before I stored it away for winter), but I will get it repaired anyway. Thanks for the help. Just out of interest does anyone know how much them hoses cost and how long they take to install?
  18. Un-assisted? That sounds bad. What exactly do you mean?
  19. As you can see in the pic here there is a black tube that comes out of the top right hand corner of the rocker cover & merges into a silver/foil type covering and then it runs along toward the driver's side under the windscreen and dissapears out of sight. I just noticed today that the part where the tube merges into the silver/foil part is ripped/separated. (It's not the easiest to see in this pic.) Does anyone know what this tube is and what effect it being ripped has?
  20. Yeah I'll definately being doing more research. It's something I plan on doing in the next 12-18 months so I have plenty of time to learn and decide.
