  1. I read somewhere (club GTI forum i think). That this stuff is very acidic and could accelerate corrosion within your engine. Therefore it was really only designed for race engines that would be stripped down and rebuilt frequently. Anyone lese heard this? Jim
  2. Thats not even a good p-chop. Easily spotted that one... Jim
  3. OK here goes nothing. 1, Take off the throttle body and give the bypass channel a good clean out with carb cleaner (this is what lets the air bypass the throttle body butterfly at idle). These tend to get bunged up with oil condensed from the rebreather. 2. Systematically feel along the length of each vacuum hose for splits, cuts, holes etc. Its often best to mark each one you have checked with a piece of electrical tape or similar. 3. If you think you have an air leak, take your (highly flammable) carb cleaner and spray some around the gaskets and vacuum hoses one at a time with the engine running (be careful though). If the engine revs rise or the idle suddenly smooths out, this is where your air leak is likely to be, as it will be sucking in the carb cleaner and burning it in the cylinders. 4. Check it isn't an electrical weakness. Drive the car along in 4th at about 25mph and try to accelerate. This will put the electrics under maximum load and show up any weakness in the HT system. Hope these help. Jim p.s. I am only a trained idiot and all of this advice is taken ENTIRELY at your own risk!
  4. I got mine from C&R in nottingham. Jim
  5. If the wife painted the house, then get her to clean all the paint off the car. That sould teach the silly sod a lesson! Jim
  6. went last year and loads of us got well stuck in the mud that you have to park on. It made for some interesting times trying to get out of there! Jim
  7. Chris, You recognised the garage from the pic then? It made 148bhp (not bad for a standard 16v!) Jim
  8. best see my post in the other nitrous thread then........... Jim
  9. I remember a trip to Highpower about 10 years ago. Myself and a mate had an old mk3 escort fitted with an xr2 rally engine, twin 40's, big cam etc.... We went to look at a kit and asked for some sort of demo. At the time these 2 guys were working out of a collection of sheds on some allotments near Doncaster. As a demo they opened up one of the sheds and proudly presented us with A BOND BUG! You know the orange plastic 3 wheeled thing. Without nitrous 0-60 = never. With nitrous 0-60 = 7 seconds. We politely declined a test drive and bought the basic kit. After installing 50 bhp jets and getting it set up it was really good. Unforunately we got a bit greedy and went to 100bhp jets. The engine survived, but the chassis only lasted 6 weeks before it literally tore itself apart. Eventually we got £6 scrap value for the chassis and the nitrous kit is in my mates garage awaiting its next outing. Jim
  10. Could your oil be too thin? These additives rarely do much other than to thicken the oil up a bit to stop it burning or draining away. It may be worth doing an oil change and putting proper vw oil in if you havent already done so Jim
  11. I see all sorts of idiots as I do about 700 miles a week. The worst are sales reps in diesel mondeos (oops, thats me!) Honestly though, after a while all you can do is take a deep breath and thank god that the muppet didn't wipe you out on the way past. Jim
  12. I have the benefit of being a fleet car driver as well as a corrado owner. If buying parts for my corrado, the parts dept treat me like a lower life form. however if i wander into the showroom and mention company car renewal then they will quite happliy lick the sh!t off my arse! I have tested this on a few occasions, the last one being last summer. My local dealer is Parkway in Derby. Jim
  13. A mate of mine had exactly the same thing with a very expensive toad alarm complete with pager etc. Two thieving gits put half a brick through his back window to pinch his speakers and the alarm didnt go off, never mind the pager (we were in the pub 20 yards away). We went and complained to the shop (smart car in Nottm) and they were having none of it. We then threatened to stand outside their car park for as long as it took and tell everyone what w*nkers they were. This soon bought them round to our way of thinking. Never been in there since. Jim
  14. Joby, I thought my 1.8 16v was a low miler at 93k Jim
  15. Thank god for that, It seems like forever since you sold the last one Jim
  16. White smoke when cold could just be the engine running as it should until warmed up. 1 litre of petrol can produce up to 7 litres of water vapour (steam) when the car is still running cold. Jim
  17. The silver car you saw them on used to belong to a mate of mine from stoke on trent. The quality of the units seemd ok, but i cant say I ever really liked them. His VR6 is now owned by someone here in Derby. As far as I know Georg has another corrado after a spell driving a Skoda Octavia RS. Jim
  18. Thats it, I have seen everything now! Jim
  19. Here's another option GIVE IT TO ME! come on, you know you want to. Jim Seriously, I think i woulf go for the diesel Leon and tune it up a bit
  20. distributor cap doesnt look like its on straight to me (3rd photo). Could this explain the problem? Jim
  21. double check the brake line lengths. I did exactly the same thing and they were way too long. The easiest thing to do is copy the ones you have taken off. Jim
  22. I had loads of problems with my AVO's. Ended up giving them away to a guy who had them already but 2 had leaked. Waste of £500 if you ask me. In addition to this the customer service I got from AVO was absolutely cr*p! Jim
  23. Yeah, white is a cool colour! Honestly all I ever hear is how nobody buys white cars except the police...... Jim
