  1. 3corsameal's right, I was also told by my insurance company that these were no longer Thatcham approved. There is a separate immobiliser module which will be buried behind the dash somewhere as these were aftermarket dealer fit. You may only need to fit a new Cat 2 immobiliser as that's what's required by your insurance company, which is cheaper than a whole new Cat 1 and you can still retain the Quantam one you have if you want. Probably best to have the whole thing replaced though given how old it is now. Oh and depending how old your car is you may have a transponder key immobiliser with a coded key that talks to the brain, but that isn't Thatcham approved either I'm afraid.

    Mk4 Rears info

I'm assuming that the callipers on the back of my Leon are the same as mk4 items - what do you mean about the pads seizing? My rear pads have a tendency to squeal and I'm wonderig if that'd have anything to do with it?[/quote:b504e] Could be Phil. The 4 flat surfaces on the caliper carriers have a flat piece of thin sprung metal which sits on top of the flat surfaces and then the 2 sides of the pad sit on these. As the pads begin to wear down and move across these sprung metal parts, with age etc they just get stuck and won't move in or out.

    Mk4 Rears info

What I will say Michael is that the pads on MK4 calipers tend to seize up and periodically need to be re-greased on the contact points. I speak from experience as my wife had a '98 MK4 from new which my daughter now has and I actually replaced the rear pads again last week - and guess what - seized up. I have had to re-grease on quite a few occasions over the last 9 years and personally would go for MK3 calipers as you don't have this problem or the handbrake mechanism problem you get with MK2 Golf rear calipers. 4. I wouldn't recommend dropping it 60mm on non-coilover suspension with 17's - it'll be like riding on square wheels :)
  5. It'll be like riding on square wheels if you drop it 60mm on non-coilover suspension with 17's.
  6. Get some Recaros storm-warning. I have the same back problem on long journeys but since I sourced some Recaros I can drive all day long in the Corrado. Fit these and source a new engine and you'll still be going strong in another 10 years :) Probably still a cheaper alternative than what you'd spend on a new car.
  7. No I meant the Corrado is not exactly a car that blends into the background despite it's age or value, as you know it turns heads everywhere you go in it, and that could be perceived as immodest and brash could it not? :)
  8. Guess that kind of rules out all of us that drive Corrados too
  9. Hope you had paying customers in the taxi Though Roddy or has it just been pleasure driving
  10. Not afraid to admit I've been left behind by a few especially mid range, that's not to say I wasn't pissed off at the time though
  11. Sometimes they're quicker than Corrado's Roddy - definitely in this case
  12. Me too Cazza, if I had to have one this would be it 8)
  13. And would be outperformed by a rechipped £20,000 Golf GTI..? It wouldn't be outperformed in real world driving rather than the traffic light sprint. I would imagine the in gear increments are something special
  14. Jim, Put the C on classic insurance for non daily driven cars with limited mileage (I use Hagerty @ £178), sorn it and you've got instant payback towards a hack. Before you know it your outlay will be recovered :)
  15. Excellent Stefan, told you you wouldn't be disappointed :)
  16. I've been waiting for someone to give us a good caning - these cars are for driving etc  Each to their own though eh?
  17. Still VAG I trust, oh and easy way to get some cash coming back in - sell me the VSR
  18. No John - so do we need to wait 2-3 weeks for the grand unveiling then or do we get a clue
  19. I gave up a house with a double garage for the current one with a single otherwise I'd probably have another toy
  20. Just SORN'd so that's the C out of action now until April 2008. Seems a long way off at the moment - anyone else doing the same?.
  21. 3corsameal I have a long 22mm slotted socket, a long handled allen key and a torque wrench. I'm based in Harlow and if you want to pop down we can tighten them up properly :)
  22. The battery jacket just pulls off after you've disconnected the leads Roger. It hasn't got a bottom to it :D Oh and I found the dealer battery to be cheap. They did a genuine one and a Varta. The Varta was cheaper - £40 odd quid and with a 3 year warranty.

    Failed MOT

    Only if pre August 92
  24. Looking good Rob. Can't go wrong with BBS but then I admit I am biased. Silver looks great, don't think the grey/black does. I bet you're very pleased with the ride quality now too :)
