    G60 Charger Rebuild

    8) Well worth a read.
  2. Also interested, as wondering if worth getting done on a standard G60 1.8l block (with 68mm and stg4 s/c). Beavis mentioned it works well on the G40 (though G40 also had cc increased) in a thread a found. ... trying to think of step approach to final XFlow destination without the missus going mad about cost :(

    'P' reg VR6

Not a Storm, but old G60 used to go through Ciren' twice a day for 4yrs.
  4. Trying to find something that explains (in reasonable terms) the relationship of, number and size of valves, to power and torque. Plus how compression ratio effects all of this ... as if I didn't spend enough work time reading this excellent forum! My old pinking G60 (RIP) made 199lb-ft and 185bhp at AmD and it was sweet blatting down the lanes :)
  5. Arse! Link has died. Anyone have a copy of the above or something similar that I can use to confuse my brain? Reading up on X-Flows :) .....
  6. Don't do it!!!!!! It does sound like the African loose all your money scam thing. Didn't they get Corrado's in the States and Canada, so if he wanted one why not buy a local car ....
  7. Bizare. Very lucky more damage wasn't done! I'd go with ... If somehow it managed to get through the inlet valve:!: is it worth checking the I/C... I reakon you need to get the Gremlin exterminators to look at your garage.
  8. ... hates corners :( The cars an SE spec so has a soft ride but feels like it has no ARBs. Would a set of H&R springs be a good move with the original length dampers? Or possibly the Bilstein Streetline kit...? Thought about just fitting the ARBs from the 1.8T Sport or other similar VAG. It's the family barge and can't be too firm as wife is about to drop Mini-Me soon. .... and it's running 225/45R17 tyres :)
  9. Tis not good. Hope the furbaring is rectifiable in some kind of way! Sorry for the stupid question, but I have a small brain and zip mechanical knowledge. Does this mean piston 4 has been pushed around in its bore due to the loose con-rod and thus got too intimate with the block? Can the bore be sleaved in some way or the cc's be increased with a rebore?......
  10. I can't get my head around a diesel coupe. My 6spd 130 TDI A3 is nippy in the mid-range, well 310Nm (228lbft) torque is nice to have. Obviously that's just the starting point with them :)
  11. There's a yellow and black valve thing that sits between the ISV and the intake. Any one know what it's for and what it's called? I managed to break the solid small plastic pipe that comes out the yellow & black body when trying to remove the perished material braided hose that comes off it. If it's cheap, I'll buy another. If not I'll use SuperGlueTM :) Valve thingy ... http://uk.f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cpollard3/detail?.dir=/4fe7&.dnm=ac0c.jpg
  12. .. and they do a G60 4 stud version also. Uses Willwood Dynalite II's. 795USD is currently 440quid then you add VAT, and import duty? Would be nice ... My Google friend says several US Corrado owners have a Willwood brake setup.
  13. The machine these tyres places use looks pretty tough, so the lever approach maybe a little interesting :) I'd hunt around for a better price... KwikFit wanted 15quid a corner to swap and balance tyres from my 15" BBS to 15" steels, said they were aving a laugh. Local ATS did all four for 20quid cash. They were all off the car so that may have helped as they didn't need to use a ramp.

    wow porkagolf

Not bad  Got to be the 3l 4cyl block though. Wonder what it steers like.... The bay looks nice.
  15. Henny, I had an expensive tracking alignment done and that's what showed up the dodgy corners :( Haven't got the figures with me, but the rear camber is not too bad out. Toe was within limits. So will try two new front wishbones and see if that cures the front corner 8) Bushes are probably knackered by now anyway. At first I was :D to have a C again, but now I want a really clean C :!:
  16. Say someone I knew found out that their G60 chassis wasn't as straight as it should be. Lets call him Bob. What would Bob need to swap over from the G60 C into a high mileage 1.8l 16v C to get the same setup. Bob's trying to dig himself out of the very big hole he got himself into when he bought the car, thinking he couldn't let a tatty G60 go to waste. Would Bob need to look at changing; fuel tank and pump, engine loom, ECU, everything attached to and including the engine (drive shafts etc), front and rear brakes, master cylinder?, gearbox, front wish bones?, rear beam? Anything else? Bob is also thinking that if this was done then it would be a fine time to rebuild the PG block for the 16v G60 conversion to except the valvers head  Bob suffers from The Voices and they tell him of many paths he could take, but which is the righteous one? Forget that the front nearside castor and rear offside camber are buggered on the G60, tweek it and see how it handles on track. Do the above car swap and get some cash back from breaking the iffy G60 shell panels. Sell the G60 and start again with a proper G60, but loose face and money. Sell the G60 and build a 2.0l 16v'd Mk2. LJ, friend of Bob and one of the Voices. Ps. Sorry for that, head hurts from too much freakin' software hacking and the w/e can't come soon enough.
  17. Scoobies - VERY quick, but any numpty can drive one of them to 90% of the cars limit. The car flatters the driver a lot. Great flat four warble, that any fitted BOVs mess with. As for Vs a VR6. Well can't say, but a Scooby I was chasing in my old tweeked G60 got his tail out when doing a sharp S bend in cold conditions. Over eager to blow me into the weeds I guess. 185bhp and 199lbft and I couldn't keep up. I did manage 40miles in ~40mins that night, along minor twisty A roads. I was buzzing for a good hour after that. Scooby driver would have fallen asleep doing the same, unless he'd managed to get upto warp speed for the corners.
  18. It was well smart!! Faded purple colour with black tint windows, and bumpers hanging off at different angles to the rest of the car. Nice
  19. An overall power to weight ratio type thing really. Car power / (car weight +/- change in wheel weight) 'ish. Lighter wheels give less unsprung mass which can give better steering feel ...? G60 BBS 6.5J (kerbed and buckled) minus tyre weighed in at 7.4Kg Passat G60 winter 6J steel minus tyres is 9.4Kg Entertainment factor of ~1996 Astra being attached to a massive twin tailpipe exhaust system that could house homeless families, whilst waiting for my alloys to be swapped for steels. Priceless!
  20. Joy, I'll look forward to that episode next then :(
  21. I can't get the frickin pipe out the white clips that secure the solid brake lines to the fire wall. These clips are behind the heat shield cover, underneath the inlet manifold. Anyone have a cunning technique for doing this? I'm only replacing the front brake lines and don't want to mangle the other lines there, and ideally keep the clips intact as they hold the lines in place. Spent yesterday arvo' wishing I had a few more joints in my arms and more strength. ... all because I couldn't seperate the solid line from the flexi hose on the last corner when fitting new braided hoses. I have diddly squat mechanical ability! Also, six line brake system. Obvious where four go but where are the last two flexi hoses?
  22. Only when foggy. Don't think much of people who drive with them on when it aint pea soup weather, plus as said above they kinda look weird with their inboard position. How about removing them and replacing with white'ish coloured metal gauze covered air ducts to the front brakes ... not that my car gets fast enough to require cooler brakes :(

    1.8T vs VR6

As Dr Mat said, if you've got the VR6 then VSR it! For a 12yr old car it's still pretty damn quick and the VR6 sounds the dogs bits when at full chat. As for the 1.8T, considering it as a conversion for my G60 as it's cheap'ish for ~250bhp if I can get a 225 unit. The more I consider it though, I love the sound of the G60 too much that I might just go the 16v G60 route and at least have an engine that is different from all those 1.8Ts, still original to the car, and sounds great to me. Now of dreaming of 1.9l 16v G60 engines ...
  24. Two insurance policies is painful! I used to run a Polo GT and Corrado G60. Full NCB and fully comp' on the G60 and 0 NCB TPFT on the Polo. Made sense to me though as my work round trip was 62miles a day plus I could then keep the G60 garaged and out of the weather. Work commute was rarely any fun. Used the C for Fridays and w/e fun. Made the mistake of putting Golf GTI steels and 185/50R14 tyres on the Polo. Light car and wide tyres make for interesting aqua plaining experiences. If the insurance is bareable, then the Mk2 8v GTI would be an excellent second car!
