  1. I'd buy it back and get it repaired and keep it. I can honestly say the C is a strong car, as I've been there. ..had a very similar accident in my old G60, except it was an old guy in an Isuzi Trooper who was late for a funeral (that's what he said!) with a cattle bar on front that slid into the back of my car at speed. He slid diagonally into the rear and punched inbetween the rear lights, which probably did less damage than hitting it straight on. The rear panel on mine was pushed in a lot more than your car is with the rear bumper sticking out at 45deg on either side, and the boot floor and hatch were mangled. Buckled the rear wings on the Rover Coupe that I got pushed into! Result This was many years ago and the total repair bill came in just over 5k which the insurance paid up for, much to my amazment! New boot floor, rear panel, bumpers, drivers rear quarter panel, American rear hatch, front head light, and respray. Took the car to AmD afterwards for some Konis and the chassis was still good and as far as I know it wasn't jigged at the VW body shop. ... J754WBO RIP Or get it cheap and break it for parts, gota be some money there. Oh yeah, afterwards I was always nervous when cars behind didn't look like they were stopping quickly enough. ... one week later I totalled my other car, so there's one less Nova GSI on the road than there could be now.
  2. Visited the local stealer and was told there was no part number for this vac hose and I'd have to buy a 5m length of hose from them! Is this right? Will I to have to visit Halfords instead?
  3. Is the C green with a 3rd rear brake light? Just wondered if it's my old G60 .... J 754 WBO Always wonder what happened to that car.
  4. Don't to it!!! Especially going from a VR6. I'd even stick with a VR6 over a 225 TT. One had soul and feel, and the other has arcade style driving. I was forced to sell my previous G60 for a new (at the time) 1.8T Sport 2yrs back. Being the FWD model it had 150bhp, VVT and fly by wire stuff. Brakes are strong but either on or off. Dead steering made it hard to place the car on the road, was the big downer for me. Suspension, dampers never felt they matched the springs. Well made and quiet inside, so a nice crusier - its not a GTI. I thought it might be a good replacement for the C, but once I got used to it and started pushing it on the road, it didn't come close. I now drive a quicker family mobile - A3 1.9 TDI 130 SE. Soft and comfy, eats the work motorway commute nicely and covers disbelievers in soot :-) When looking for another C, I drove a knackered 2.0l 16v C that still had more steering feel than the A3 ever will have! LJ
  5. Guys The ISV on my G60 clicks about once a second with the ignition on and the engine cold. Does this mean it or the ECU could be dud? A comment on the Vortex forum said it was likely the ECU could be knackered.... car starts but seems to run rich looking at the plugs. Once the engine is warm it no longer clicks. I've cleaned the ISV and refitted and it's still the same :-( Could it be effected by dead sensor???? This has had a neglected life by the previous owner. LJ G60 restoration project
  6. Robbo Test drive the A3 ... but it's not that great. I traded in my old G60 for an A3 1.8T two years back and regretted it. It's a nice looking car, quiet inside, well made. Just doesn't drive as nicely - more a GT than GTI hatch. Steering lacks the Corrado's feel, especially straight ahead and slightly off from there. Doesn't handle that great either, the damping and springs didn't gel together on mine. I've now sold that and bought an A3 SE 130 TDI for mile munching and bought a cheap G60 ... which is definetly making my wallet smaller - but I just love the car!!! LJ
  7. If you need to empty a G60 tank. - Disconnect the coil lead. - Pull the fuel pump relay. - Put 12v on pin 4 where the relay was. The fuel pump should now be pumping away. This emptied my old trolley'd tank no problem. Thanks to Henny for the above advice. LJ G60 Restoration project
  8. Have to say that the Boxster is the best car I've ever driven. It's so alive and the engine note at the redline is soooooo (for me, to) addictive :-) I'm lucky enough to own an '03 2.7l 228bhp in midnight blue whith the wider foot print from the bigger 17's wheel option. You have to rev the 2.7l to get it to go quickly, but it's nippy enough normally and can plod along in 5th easily enough at low speeds. You need to hit the sweet spot around 5k rpm to get it really going and to hear that engine make it's tune. Red line starts at 7k.... If you like the torque approach then the 3.2S is the better option. Mid engined handling is superb, though initial turn in gives slight understeer until the weight transfers onto the front :-) Ride quality is great, firm yet supple! It's not the fastest thing on the road by a long shot, but it's a hell of a lot more fun to punt along the twisty roads than a TT is. My normal commute involves a section of the M4, and I get >28mpg on UL and SUL fuel gives about 30-31. This is with town traffic at 1st-2nd gear crawls and 85mph'ish on the motorway. Most I've managed is 34mpg, though that was many miles doing 50mph... LJ
  9. Luckily I was sitting down. Local VW dealer quoted either £174 or £199 depending on chassis number for the petrol tank. Ouch! The fuel gauge doesn't work, so I got the price of the sender unit as well. Well VW said it's all one unit included with the lift pump with a totally nice price of £105 for that!! I thought only the VR6 had a lift pump .... ah well, mucho cost. A trip to PSD gets that bit further away :-( I knew I shouldn't have sold my old much modifed G60 to get married. Henny, If you could get the details on firing the pump all the time, that would be extremely useful. Guess I'll be putting ad's in the Wanted section very soon. I didn't think to check the fuel tank when I bought the car .... LJ '92 G60 Restoration Project
  10. Henny, I was clinging to the faint hope that it might flex back into shape :-( I'll see how much VW want for a new tank and its straps, for a laugh! Hoping I can get the job done myself, if it ever stops poxy raining when I get time. Having to work on the car outside is no fun. Should be able to empty the tank by powering the pump, but disconnecting the fuel feed from the engine bay? Thanks for the words of wisedom. LJ '92 G60 - The Restoration Project
  11. Hi Guys My first post as a C owner. Recently acquired a '92 G60 that needs some "restoration". Whilst getting the car up on axle stands to replace the rear discs and bearings I noticed that the petrol tank has been crushed from underneath!!! It looks like a trolley jack has been used towards the front of the tank. The rear beam looks undamaged. Could explain why the fuel gauge doesn't work!! When I bought the car I thought it would just be a case of replacing the sender unit :-( Anyone know if it's possible to push the tank back into shape from inside of it or do I have to get a new tank .... any ideas how much that would cost? Guess scrappie would be my best option. LJ[/img]

    2.0l 16v Track Day car!?

Thanks aposegil. I'm going to see what Stealth recommend to get extra bhp. Looking for C's now, so should get to test drive a 2.0l 16v sometime soon. Hoping it won't feel too slow in standard trim... Can't wait to own my favorite car again. Had several new cars since I let my G60 go, and none of them I looked back at after getting out. LJ
  13. I've been lurking around here for a while. Blinkin' excellent stuff on here. Just wish it was around when I had my tweeked G60. Anyway... Been saving up the cash for ages and looking to get a Corrado again for TDs and some local Sprint events. Can't afford a 1.8T conversion so looking to tune a 2.0l 16v C, with some TSR bits. So far their Pack A head, 276 cams, and manifold looks nice!? Solid lifter setup sounds interesting, though too much cost. Can the larger G60 brake setup be retro-fitted onto a 2.0l 16v? Is there any suspension difference between the G60 and 2.0l 16v? Hoping to get a high mileage late 2.0l 16v in the new year and rebuild the engine. LJ
