FREE - Passat Aircon System - Corrado fitment
daves16v replied to daves16v's topic in Parts for Sale
Providing I can sort my camshaft sensor problem then yes I'll be there. -
I have this clutch out of my breaker that has only done about 3k miles. It looks as good as the clutch in my VR which was new a couple of thousand miles ago. It's an LUK unit which is a dealer item. I'd like £25 + post which I guess will be around a tenner due to weight. Collection from M1 J25 Notts/Derby area welcome.

I have an almost complete aircon system out of a B4 Passat that should drop into a Corrado with some work. The radiator is missing so this would need to be sourced and there maybe be some other pipework that is required. I will include a Haynes manual for the Passat to help with fitting and sourcing parts. I had intended to fit this to my car but as it's not my daily I couldn't see the point. Collection only from M1 J25 Notts/Derby area. It would be a shame to bin this as it could be an easy way to Rado aircon. I don't want anything for it as I was given it for free also but I do need it out of my way ASAP. Thanks

Not true, I run Win 7 interface on my Win 8 Laptop and you don't see the Metro UI at all. Yes there are some that this applies to but not the one I'm running, I tried a few Win 7 apps before deciding.
-
I'm pretty sure you only need 2 clips, the centre tab doesn't have a clip, at least none of my Rado's did.
-
Haha agreed!

Jim, what don't you like about Win 8? I bought a HP laptop around Xmas time with Win 8 installed and immediately took a dislike to the new front end so installed a third party Win 7 front end which is working well. I will say Win 8 is much quicker than 7 at least that's what I'm finding. The HP laptop is running an Intel i5 processor which is pretty quick and even runs my CAD software very well too. The only downside to the laptop is the cheapish build quality but I did only pay £400 for it but in saying this it lives at home 99% of the time so doesn't need to be so robust.

Ok, let me dig them out tomorrow morning to be sure there is nothing damaged.
-
Yes I have them, which clip do you need? Is it the one that holds the surround in just above the hole on your surround? £10 + post, shall we say £13 posted?
-
I might have them Pete, will need to check.

Factory Fresh! Good work mate, you've got your hands full keeping it like that.

Andy, it's easy enough removing inlet mani, cam cover and the end cover, the problem comes undoing the sprocket bolt. It wouldn't budge on mine, hence having to use the one off my breaker. If it had come off then I doubt I'd have this problem. Oh and you need to use joint sealant when refitting the end cover, not sure if the VW stuff is a must or some other brand will do?

Do you have the gear shifter inside the car? Don't need the cables. -

Tim, what car do you have? -
Pete, cheers mate, ordered it. James, yeah glad it's done, can relax now. I've borrowed another sensor off LaserMark but after checking all three for resistance I doubt the sensors are duff, they all read the same. Going to strip the covers off again to get at the trigger. Don't you just love cars!
-
Kev, yes the intermediate shaft timing marks were properly aligned. Do I need to swap the whole sprocket or does the actual trigger block come off?
-
So with the help of PurpleTom we started stripping my VR on Wednesday in preparation for new chains, tensioners, tappets and 263 cams. Of course there were problems, firstly there were 2 drive shaft bolts that had rounded heads which made it a little harder to remove. Before stripping everything off we aligned the existing cams to check the timing, as you can see in the photos the timing was out. The upper tensioner has already started to break-up and the chains have worn deep grooves in the steel backing plate. The tensioner bolt appeared to have reached its tensioning limit also. We put the timing problem down to the fact that there is excessive wear to all the tensioner components. This may explain why it only made 180bhp at the rolling road day at Stealth. My car has done 177k miles on the original chains and tensioners but looking at them they had started to wear a long time ago. Whilst stripping out the wiring we noticed the stud to the back of the alternator was very rusty and spinning so we decided to swap it for a much better item from my breaker, saves further problems down the line to swap it now whilst the rad was out. I have to admit a silly mistake by myself when removing the camshaft bearing caps, I joked to Tom about dropping one of the nuts, a few seconds later I did just that and heard it rattle down into the engine. I just couldn't believe what I'd just done! Tom was as cool as a cucumber and suggested we drop the sump, luckily the nut was in the bottom. Here's a photo at the half way point late afternoon Wednesday. Thursday morning - The rebuild went pretty smoothly apart from the cam sprocket on the exhaust cam didn't want to come off no matter how much muscle we put into it. We decided to use the spare cam sprocket off my breaker which thankfully did come off easier. The breaker proved to be very useful as we used the front arch liners off it too as the originals had been butchered. The rest of the rebuild went well. Whilst we were at it Tom replaced the ARB drop links that I'd had for some time and hadn't got around to fitting. So after refitting everything it was time to fire it up, it was about 7.30 in the evening by this time so we were pretty excited. We had turned it over a few times without firing it and all was good. It did fire up and then we carried out the tappet bedding in procedure. Sadly it wasn't a complete happy ending, VCDS threw up a camshaft sensor error which took away any extra power I was looking forward to. The drive home was ok apart from some lumpy running and lack of power. The engine sounds so much better now, I'm very pleased. I'd like to say a massive thanks to Tom for helping me, I felt my car was safe in your hands, cheers buddy. Today, Friday, I swapped the sensor for the one off my breaker but sadly this hasn't solved it.

Don't have the fixings, you're better off buying new anyway, can't be too expensive.

Not sure about the nuts and bolts, will check again.
