Okay, I reckon this is about as good as it's going to get. You'll notice that the grille still sits slightly proud of the headlights but it won't go back any further due to the uprights behind it. Incidentally if anyone has made a better job of this then I'd like to take a butcher's at the pics.

12k miles is pretty respectable. I'd call that good tyre wear after the bikes...Fireblade ate a rear tyre in 900 miles and the R6 only managed 1400.

On the subject of VW slagging, when I walk into my local dealer I can feel the air of superiority from the staff. Can't think why.
-
Nice one (and damn quick!)....as I suspected the lights on the later models follow the edge of the front panel closer than the early model, therefore my grille sits slightly further out than the lights. I'm gonna go re-modify that now and I'll put some pictures of the mounting points up when it's right.

If someone with a VR6 could take a couple of shots of the new style grille in place that may make other people's life easier as they will be able to see how it sits from the factory. A picture of the front of the car taken from the side would be the most useful, if you see what I mean.

I did this yesterday....the original mounts from the new grille were removed with a hot Stanley knife and superglued back in the right place. I wasn't sure that the glue would be strong enough, but having re-asessed the job I'd say the plasic is weaker! I used the mounts that came on the new style grille and it fits in the same way as the old one used to, with the push catches fully operational. Wish I'd taken some pictures now.

"Immediately the mechanic tells you nothing more of the horse!!!" LMFAO

Only marginally - about 8mm over the diameter I believe, but the cost saving is significant I feel.

The Hankook Ventus Sport K104 get a damn good review - actually slightly better overall than the pricier Goodyear Eagle F1. I've got a couple coming for my Corrado and will report on their performance. They were £36.50 each inc. VAT and delivery in 195/50-15 (Y rated!) I was going to try the Toyos but they didn't do very well in the tyre life category.

It's his topic and he can do what he likes! :D Keep pumping out vids like that and introducing new music here and, who knows, that Corrado fund may actually get a donation..... -
Now there's a Goonies quote! As for your problem, I've just had something similar on my 16v - just as kev says with my car it was down to fuel starvation. The fuel line from the fuel filter had become kinked (no idea how), which only affected the car at higher revs, but boy did it affect it. Not sure how you'd check this, other than visually.

To be honest if I had money to but a new car now, although it may well be from the VAG family, it would very likely not be a VW. I can't but help thinking they're living off their old reputation. Having looked at a few new VWs I'd have to say the quality of my mum's Leon Cupra and my mate's Octavia vRS are definitely higher. Am I right in thinking that VW have been slated in the JD Power survey for a few years running now? In the 2004 survey there wasn't a VW in the top 40, where the Octavia came fourth overall.

I really don't know how many good examples of these cars there are around now. If my mates ropey '93 Calibra Turbo is anything to go by....not many. There's no shortage of 175k mile Corrados, but you don't see many high miler 80s/90s performance Vauxhalls about. Maybe the dodgy bodywork prevented the engines from continuing active service. Living practically next door to Courtney Sport I used to see loads of Mk.2 Astras and similar, but these days it's all new shape stuff and VX220s. Chav-tastic in in most cases. Does anybody know roughly what sort of mileage the XE engines were good for?

What was your doctorate research in may I ask?
-
My Corrado really has to be seen in person to be appreciated for what it is.....I'll leave you to decide what that might be.
-
I believe I can hold my own....others may disagree! The apprenticeship with Anglian Water helped somewhat, and it's probably the reason I most hate the term "graduate." Yuk :pukeright:
-
It was in the family for eight and a half years and 90k miles. I felt a bit guilty really.

I'd call 150 (conservative) BHP in a car with a chocolate chassis that detested corners pretty exciting - in an "aaarrgghhhh I'm going to die" kind of way! I really miss my old GTE 16v sometimes.....usually on the straights. The Cavalier GSi was a damn good combination of chassis and engine. I had several years of experience in these and can testify that even a Corrado VR6 would have to be driven by someone a bit handy in order to get away. Shame they're all rotten now.
-
LOL....sh1t happens! Anyway the Golf was starting to use a fair amount of oil and water, and the "incident" gave me the excuse to buy a Corrado. I was only saying to a friend earlier that day that I'd never been in a rolled car *sigh*

I was marshalling a round of the BARC pick-up truck racing at Snetterton a few weeks ago and, during a pit-lane jolly, was surprised to see they used the XE engines. They may just be a space frame with a fibreglass body but laptimes in the mid one minute tens is still pretty damn impressive. Good close racing too.

As a PhD student with a first class degree myself, I'd like to congratulate you on those achievements. Rock on. I'm pretty handy with a spanner too I reckon.

My mate totally freaks out at the first sniff of coolant - and he's always the first to smell it. Apparently the smell is all he can remember from the accident where he hit a tractor on a CBR600....in 1989. Bonkers, eh?! Just thought I'd share that.
-
WOW, you weren't wrong about the ride height.......despite lack of fuel, etc.

dr_mat, I have to know....are you actually a Dr.????
