I had the same problem recently too from the passenger side...but it was sorted by stripping the brake, removing all the rust and crud and appling liberal amounts of copper grease. I very much doubt that the garage would bother to clean all the rust and debris from the brake caliper bracket, etc. that you might yourself.

A VW main dealer mechanic once told me that they replace the tensioner with the cambelt now as a matter of course as they're so poor. It came after a number of premature cam-belt wear/snapping claims following changes of the cambelt with the original tensioner. I don't know if it's true but it makes sense.

What's the name of the special tool used to crimp those "Terminals to fit mouldings" from that link above? I've never managed to get my hands on one.
-
That Atom has similar wheels to my Corrado. Must be special!

I think when my mate bought the Rallye lights and slam panel for his Mk.2 16v in 1997 they cost him £500 new. Sounds pretty obscene to me! I'm guessing they're cheaper now though.
-
Nah, Jetta lights are taller than the pukka Rallye lights. It's the choice of cheapskates that want the Rallye look on their Mk.2 Golfs. I have a feeling the Rallye lights used some sort of projector light set-up too.

The same wheels came on my last Mk.2 Golf.....luckily the suspension didn't. Anyone know what those wheels are called? I see a lot of Mk.2s from the late 80's wearing a set.

I found that it wasn't as much of a nightmare as the Mk.2 8v I had previously. I guess it all depends how mechanically competant you are and how brave you're feeling!

It looks a bit like a spaceship! I'm more interested in what's under the hood....

G60 vs VR6.. yes, its back to haunt us again.

That load of old bollox reads like a pub argument between a load of 18 year olds after a few too many WKDs. Do they really believe the horse sh1t that they're dribbling? I really really hope not. Who knows, one day they may become VAG mechanics or something equally as scary.....be afraid..... -
That is the funniest thing I've ever seen - a joke surely. If not he's taking the term "bass bin" far too literally.

Damn that convertible is gorgeous...I'd give my left nut for one of those!
-
I just took a look at the install pics in my car thread to see if it looked as crap....now I wanna go clean the car because it looked so damn shiny.

Mine does precisely squat

It's a shame that so much time can be spent on something so poor.

Winter driving. Awareness of diff. betn air and road temps.
bcstudent replied to craigowl's topic in General Car Chat
Yes, because that's one of the few places they can measure the air temp from without it being overly impacted by the heat generated from the car itself, and also not affected by the wind chill of having a sensor in a moving air stream. But they're not at road level, by anyone's standards. Aren't the Corrado air temp. senders in the off-side brake cooling duct? Surely that constitues "in a moving air stream." -
According to Autotrader 10k will get you a left hand drive model but a decent right-hooker is nearer 20k.

When I first bought my Corrado it used to unlock itself overnight - not ideal in the middle of a scummy part of Peterborough. I had read somewhere that sticky deadlocks sometimes cause the central locking to unlock itself - and as the car had been sitting for a while before I bought it this seemed reasonable - so I planned to give 'em a clean. Before I got round to it the problem went away though and it's been fine for a year.

Problem solved, pic? No problem....the changer just stands on its end under the armrest. It's a good enough fit not to need fixing down. These Germans think of everything!
-
I've never seen a Calibra Turbo with an oil pressure gauge as standard.
-
My Alpine 6-disc changer fits like a glove under the rear armrest.

I'm going backwards....the car drives so much better with the standard Sebring "winter" wheels that I'm just going to leave them on. The 17s can either live in the shed or I'll sell them to anyone that makes me a decent offer. Granted, it looks a lot better on the 17s but it's noticeably slower and the handling is vague - anyway I can't see the wheels from inside so who cares what it looks like...right? I didn't think you'd agree!

Sorry I couldn't offer a slightly more constructive reply!
