  1. You are right. C's come with factory-standard tint. If you say it was on the car already then surely they would contact the previous owner to ask him ? I'm just worried if I say I put it on they will invalidate my policy cos it's illegal
  2. Thanks I'll check my policy schedule. What to say about the tints ? It's considered a non-standard modification. They now want all the details ie how much I paid, where it was done etc. I mean this is not a theft claim so what would it matter if my vehicle looked "more desirable" :?: If I say it was on the car when I bought it then they'll want to know why I didn't mention it before :?: Or do I say it was on the car before the law changed at the beginning of the year :?: Bear in mind my front window also has the medium tint so is technically illegal. Could that invalidate my policy :?: Your input appreciated.
  3. OK this is the latest ... Elephant sent me a letter saying because I have 3 points on my license I need to pay in an additional premium before they settle my claim  WTF  Now I thought when you mention this at the time of taking out the policy, they take it into account and charge you accordingly. So why am I being asked for more money :?: :!: OK and then there's another letter saying that they noticed I have tinted windows. They now want all the details ie how much I paid, where it was done etc. If I say it was on the car when I bought it then they'll want to know why I didn't mention it before. Bear in mind my front window also has the medium tint so is technically illegal. Unless it was on the car before the law changed at the beginning of the year ... The only good news is they haven't noticed the TT alloys ... with the VW centre badges :D Does it get any better :?: :!:
  4. Highway insurance let me buy the salvage for 20% of the market value they paid me. Elephant quote 18%. Do you think they would be flexible on their percentages ?
  5. One is passenger side one is driver's side. Driver's side is slightly longer but still fits the passenger side too. Better with two driver's sides imo. I don't know why you would want the Lupo arm but a Bosch blade ... I thought the whole point of the exercise was to bin those rubbish standard blades. The new Lupo style blades stick to the windscreen like glue and clean better than those gypsies
  6. No the Lupo arms have a redical new design and are only compatible with the new-style blades. Have a look at a new Lupo/Polo/Golf and you'll see what I mean. Just buy two complete arms/blades from stealer. Part number is V6X2 998 406 That is the part number for a driver's side blade/arm and fits both driver and passenger and covers the screen perfectly.

    Speedo, 10mph too fast

Just found this on http://www.gti-vr6.net/library/electrical/MFA_tricks.html The 1993 model year and after has a procedure using the odometer reset button instead which then lists the following: Function Function Meaning number displayed ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 - Distance pulse number --- 6010 (Great Britain and USA) 2 - Country code --- 2(G.B) 3 - Speedometer/Tach --- For production only 4 - No. of cylinders --- 6 5 - Segment test --- All LCD segments selected 6 - Pulse from speedometer --- 4 pulses counter per 1 wheel revolution ___ vehicle speed sensor 7 - Engine speed (rpm) 8 - Program version --- same as "3" above

    Speedo, 10mph too fast

No mate I've done it with all my VR6's. No digital speedo only digital rev counter. Useful for checking that idling speed - mine was about 850 ish. Did take a bit of fiddling / hacking though. Cos the other guide out there tells you to hold down the MFA while switching the ignition off and then on. Eug

    Speedo, 10mph too fast

Simple. Turn the ignition to the on (no need to start the car). Hold down the Trip Reset button and then quickly turn the ignition off and then on again. Release the Trip Reset. The MFA displays Mode 1. Pressing the MFA advances fro Mode 1 to Mode 8 and then repeats. One of the Modes gives you the upper RPM limiter (6100 I think) and one of them is a Display test (Mode 6). Mode 7 is the digital rev counter. You can then proceed to start your engine. Everything goes back to normal when you switch the ignition off.
  10. Looks lovely Nikki. I'm glad there is somebody out there who cares enough for a Corrado to restore her. Keep this thread alive with your progress 8)
  11. Buckhurst Hill. Along with Eug. From Buckhurst Hill. Who has a Corrado. VR6. In Blackberry. AKA Silverfox.
  12. My guess is his 16V was resprayed. Sceptic or what ?!
  13. Good idea mate. Now when is someone gonna write off a R32 so the engine can be transplanted into the Corrado ... Hey wait a minute ... they should just let me drive it
  14. Was just about to say ... check first with someone who has made a claim. It's all very well to have cheap quotes etc, but at the end of the day you're insuring your vehicle in the unlikely event of an accident. I paid them £1400 Full Comp (cos I had 1 claim from my previous VR which was written off) and because this new car was written off after a month they've cancelled the policy. Worth asking these little questions before signing up. Or invest in a Protected No Claims Bonus. Looks like I'll have 2 claims against my name now when it comes time to take out a new poilicy ... oh the good news was they said I'd get a discount if I used them again since I've paid them up front and all that.

    Bugger!

How on earth did that happen :?: :!:  Pulled too hard and your tool hit the window from the inside ?
  17. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing. I've already written off two VR6's ... and I'm itching for my third. Some say third time lucky  some say do a hat-trick  Slowly pushing up the value though ...
  18. Try disconnecting the cables and see if the dials turn freely. And then manually push and pull each cable and check for play. It could be the the cable has a kink or is jammed at the other end.
  19. Dude I totally agree with you and that's exactly my argument to Elephant. But their policy is that if the car gets written off - then there's no car left to insure and therefore no policy. I said to them "OK I'll give you a car to insure" and they said "it's already been cancelled so I'll need to start again". Will ring their Legal Dept and let you know the outcome
  20. Let's say I had the crash on day 1 of the policy and it was written off. Before they make a payout they would want the remaining premium. Otherwise they would deduct it from my claim. So it doesn't matter the fact that I paid them up front. Basically they know that in the unlikely event of a write-off, they've got £1400 of mine already plus another £350 from my excess. So £1750 is in their pocket. And then they pay me out the £5K market value less the £1750. I agree with you and Andy that I should be entitled to some compensation. All they said is that if I take out a new policy then they will give me a discount because I've already paid them a large sum. That's Elephant.co.uk for you. Remember guys that just because you get the cheapest deal somewhere, doesn't mean they are the best in dealing with claims. Highway insurance allowed me to change my insurance to another vehicle (Another Corrado VR6 in fact) after the previous VR6 got written off. Some do - some don't. Might be worth asking that sort of question when you make you enquiries. We live and we learn. If not from our own experiences - then by others' :|
  21. I'm rather acclimatised to the hot and cold weather (or is that warm and cold, or cold and colder ?!) so that's not it. Oh a combination of missing my family (been here 5 years already) and the apartment I bought there 2 years ago as an investment has doubled it's value :D I want to sell and buy a penthouse apartment with my brother. Brand new development near the sea, with sea views, 24 hr security, internet and heated floors for about £80K
  22. Cheers Andy. Just my luck ! They've cancelled my policy because they are paying me out in full. So there's no refund cos at the end of the day they're paying out without reclaiming any of the money. Not the first time I've had hit and run though ... had a Mazda MX-3 last year. Was sitting in a 3-lane queue at the lights in the right-hand lane. Cars in front of me were queuing to turn right whereas I wanted to go straight. So I slowly stuck my nose out to the left to join the middle lane. Next thing *bam* and this massive 18-wheeler speeds past and takes me front wing off and pushes me into the car next to me ! I couldn't drive off because the wing was ripped up and touching the wheel and didn't get the registration. He just carried on driving and probably didn't even feel anything :( Then there's my accident on my Ducati. Was filtering on the M40 in slow-moving traffic when car cuts in front of me cos other lane was moving faster. I swerved to avoid running in to him but then he panicked and swerved back where he came from, this time cutting right in front of me ad then he slammed on his brakes cos the lane had all stopped. I braked hard and front wheel locked up and I went over the bars and through his back window  Luckily my bike stopped about 2 metres from his car so didn't actually touch his car. It was like I did a stoppie and the bike did a cartwheel. He denies changing lanes and I didn't ask for witnesses since I was real shook up and in pain since I was wearing jeans. Claim still unsettled and that's more than a year ago ...3 solicitors have thrown my case out already. I think it's a sign ... my colleagues think I'll be safer in a trolley ! :|
  23. You would think that I can have it repaired. I mean it's either that or they pay me in full, I buy the car off them and then I fix it up myself and pocket the spare cash. Thing is like Dinkus I paid them £1400 premium and my excess is £350. I am on hold to them now but they've just said my policy is cancelled and there is nothing they can do to reinstate it. Even if I can get a cheaper quote for repairs, "the policy is cancelled sir". So I guess ... the policy is cancelled ! I could either use the payout to repair it or sell and get my money back. £1400 for a month's insurance seems bloody steep !
  24. Oh to add to that Elephant.co.uk said that since since the car has been written off - they have cancelled my policy  With my previous insurance company (Highway Insurance) after my Corrado was written off and I bought it from them, they allowed me to transfer my insurance over to another car since there was about a month left on it. Elephant says if there's no car to insure then the policy is cancelled ! Whatever happened to changing the car on your policy ... now I'm taking the bus to work !!!
  25. ']['H3R4POR, Mr Mature & too_hot: Thanks for the condolences/comments mates. Yes the quote from the approved repair place was about 3/5 the value of the car ! If I was staying in the country then I'd do anything I can to keep her. Looks like I'm gonna move back to Cape Town for a while ... Sure I could get a cheaper quote so that they don't write it off and get it repaired as you explained. Only problem is when it comes time to sell then obviously the value goes down quite a bit though. Least if they pay me book value then I get my money back. See where I'm coming from ? Not sure will have to ask Elephant.co.uk. That's goos news - then my newxt quote (uf I get one) won't be too much extra You would think so but an ossider I spoke to last night said that even if they managed to find the car, the driver still didn't need to comment to the police at all since it's his right. And if I saw a white Toyota Corolla hatchback reg G797??? with front driver's wing accident damage, then it would only be an assumption that it was that car. Basically without the whole registration he said it's useless. Does this mean I just got screwed up the ass :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!:
