Update ... I wrote back kindly explaining that for me to buy another Corrado in the same condition, I would need at least £5K cos that's the current market value. They contacted me couple days later and increased their original offer and I am now very pleased with them  So thumbs up to Elephant 8)

Ok it was dark but I spotted a well stickered (chavved ?) up Scooby in Putney, Sarf London

eBay ? Remember to add the part about "This car is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to end the auction early blah blah blah" And then let's not forget: Exchange and Mart

Ladies and Gents I'm really sorry.... (now with photos)
Eug replied to TomB's topic in General Car Chat
Sorry for you mate ! Being a crash test dummy (pilot ?!) I too can testify to the build quality and strength of the Corrado body. I certainly feel very safe inside. I'm sure you'll be coming back for more as I'm after my third victim now ... The good news is that the market value just got higher so that's good for your payout ! Remember that the purpose of insurance is so that neither you nor your insurance company are left any better or worse off than before the accident. And they need to pay you a reasonable sum so that you can go out and buy another vehicle in the same condition as yours, prior to the accident. -
Basically your speedo would be out -2.66% because your rolling radius would be slightly less than standard. So when you're speedo reads 70, you're actually travelling at 68.14. Taken from The Wheel and Tyre Bible
-
The recommended tyre size for a 16" wheel is 205/45/16. If you want to keep the width standard you add an inch to the wheel diameter, and subtract 5% from the profile. 17" wheel would be with 205/40/17 tyres. 18" wheel would be 205/35/18 tyres and so on. Hope this helps.

Dirt in the tank ? Dirty fuel filter ?

Anyone got any ideas on a valuation, prior to the accident :?:
-
I am buying it back, yes. Need to recoup some of my losses incurred. Including the £350 excess I'll never see again and the rise in my premium since I now have two total loss claims ...

£4.5 - £5K

The funny thing is I got a call from them yesterday offering me £3700 cos they spotted a "match" on AutoTrader. I kindly explained that mine was a much better spec and sent them lots of adverts to prove that the current market value of a car with my identical spec is much more than what they were offering. In fact, the cheapest VR6 with leather is on for £5800 ... in fact Pablo_VR6's car is not far off at £5K ono though. And then I get this cheque for £2521  Oh and don't forget the 34p. Made me laugh.
-
Got to admit - it made me chuckle (see attached) According to the General Insurance Standard's Council they need to pay me out a reasonable amount so that I can go out and buy another car in the same condition. They got their info from the AutoTrader ! How professional. What's it worth anyway ? '95 M-reg Twilight Violet VR6 Heated Grey leather 114K miles Tinted windows (cost £200) Unkerbed Speedlines with lots of tread (I paid £585 for the polished TT alloys plus brand new tyres so pointless to include them in the sale) No engine modifications ie totally original and unmodified. Comprehensive VW service history (no expense spared) No dings/scratches (bonnet has been sprayed to sort out stone chips) First owner was doctor, then lady driver up till 40K, then motorway miles until 110K. Edit: Don't think I'm even thinking of accepting that cheque ... will get on the dog and bone tomorrow to give them an earbashing
-
I put the TT 17" alloys on mine and boy what a difference ! It sticks to the road like a go-cart when cornering, and there is no "tyre flex" either. And yeah they look pretty 8) too !
-
Audi TT (225 BHP model) 17" with 205/40/17 tyres. They have been professionally polished to give them the bling bling factor 8) PS they will be for sale soon cos everyone knows the car's been written off :(
-
This was from when I picked up my first VR6 and drove it back from Canterbury ...
-
Mate I think you'd be battling for hours trying to get the tyre off the rim without scratching the hell out of it ! Perhaps find a cheaper place to fit the tyres ?
-
Have I set an official record ... for the most written-off ?
Eug replied to Eug's topic in General Car Chat
Exactly ... no engine rebuild, no. I can't believe the cheek. They've just look at AutoTrader for the "Market Value" and picked the cheapest M-reg on there. How professional. They mentioned the Glass's guide before for obtaining Market Values, but now I'm beginning to think that lady needs her friggin glasses ! -
Have I set an official record ... for the most written-off ?
Eug replied to Eug's topic in General Car Chat
OK I have declared the tints and they have now got back to me with a "market value". She said they are prepared to pay me ... wait for it ... in fact let me elaborate. Apparently they have found "perfect match sir". Same year, same mileage but with a special Karmann interior. Whoo I wish mine had a Karmann interior. That one is selling for £3700 and that's what they're prepared to offer ! I asked her if it had leather or not but she couldn't tell me. "Mine's got leather I said and that's at least a nother few hundred pounds". Random Corrado WTF ! I'm now copying and pasting every single ad on Autotrader to educate them in the prices ... -
Due to my ongoing battle with trunky insurance, please remember to declare your tints even though it's not a performance modification. And remember that a 25% tint on the front windows (forward of the B pillar) is the legal maximum. That means it lets through 75% of the light. It could invalidate your policy and they might not pay you out once your car has been written off ...
-
Tell them what they want to hear ... yeah mate  That works for my job interviews ... for pulling birds ... for getting out of trouble ... 8)
-
What have other Corrado owners said to their insurance when they have tinted their windows ?
-
And his profile says 1.8 16V
-
Not sure mate. I *think* the light smoke passes the test. But I've got medium smoke on all windows. Could always rip the tint off ? The only proof they've got is a photo I emailed to them from the forest. And then the accident repair place took photos too and emailed them. What to do what to do
-
Trunky wants to know when I had my windows tinted, the reason for fitting, the cost of fitting, the details on who carried out the modifications and the details on the exact percentage of tint. Now I've got medium tint on all windows. Add that to the already tinted standard windows makes them all appear dark. Min light percentage for front windows is 30%. Will they contact the previous owner if I say I bought it like that :?: Or say I wrote to them to declare it and the letter must have gone astray :?: Can they cancel my policy if they find out it's illegal tint :?: Any advice appreciated.

Yay my previous pride and joy has been re-incarnated. Well done. As I look out on to my new pride and joy to see her all wrapped and covered up, waiting for her adoption papers to be sorted ...
