  1. I imported my Mk1 Rocco, as they're scarce (actually not available what I wanted) over here in the UK. I also specifically wanted a LHD, so that was that. The above thread has nicely summarised on how to go about importing a car, looked at that option myself as well, and then had it transported (worked out cheaper, given the car had to otherwise be driven all the way from behind Munich plus ferry costs ...) For the Rado I was also looking at Germany, but then stumbled across my current one up in Scotland, and felt the price to be OK, so I went for it (after the usual inspection). As it is, the Rado had already been in the States and Germany before (US spec. G60, LHD), so someone else had already doen all the importing bits :D I personally don't mind where the steering wheel sits, have driven LHD and RHD both here and on the continent, not really any problems there. Some insurances over here might charge higher premiums for LHDs though  Tempest
  2. Yup, had it not been for my Milltek exhaust on the Rado, I would have also gone back to Powerflow, as I already have one on my Storm Rocco, and I'm very happy with it. I had mine fitted by Mr Tyre in Coventry, looks like a dodgy shed, but did the work properly, and that's what counts. Tempest
  3. Should still be able to get them for approx. 165 quid plus p&p from Germany to the UK. P&P should be around the 10 quid mark. Still cheaper than what Venom sell them for. I'll see whether I can get some sort of discount depending on quantity, and whether all clusters have to be the same, or whether we can mix, as In.Pro also do 3 types: smoked (like I have), clear/red, and M3-style clear. Tempest
  4. Finally got round to taking some piccies of the smoked In.Pros, just not on my Corrado yet (pics to follow): Tempest
  5. Would agree with Jim there, even though there might be some travelling involved. Then again, I did it exactly the opposite way: Went over to test drive my Mk1 Rocco nr. Munich, flew back (didn't wnat to buy it ... until my colleague at work sat down with me and asked me "What was wrong with the car?" Erm, nothing, 2 sleepless nights later and it was mine 8) ) Tempest
  6. Sorry to hear, mate. BK Racing wheels? Yup, got the 299 17" on my C. Seem to be on a ot of Rados though ... Tempest

    Road Tax...

If it's any consolation: Labour party in Germany have also cocked up pretty much everything, the political party in the Netherlands (don't even know who's in power there) are crap, Italy (Berlusconi haha!!), USA (need I say more ?), the EU parliament (failed national politicians normally go there). Easy: Shoot the b****d politicians, and societies all over the world will have been done a favour.
  8. Backbox should already do the trick, as so lovely demonstrated by my Powerflow on my Mk2 Storm Rocco (although I did go for a full system there, but was told that rasping etc. is mainly caused by the internal structure of the backbox, baffles etc.). Tempest

    Newbie

Hi Renegade! It's starting to take shape in this forsaken city called Coventry 8) 4 Rados !!! Are you joining in next Sunday on the little meet-up? The idea is to alternate such meetings between Leicester and Coventry, so the one for April would be in Cov. again :D Then again, we do tend to meet up in between as well, any old excuse to drive the Rado, I guess  I myself live in Stoke Green, off Binley Road. Tempest
  10. Having you noticed any good results when braking compared to your previous set-up? Tempest (hopinjg to see you in Boekel at Roadstar 2004 !)
  11. Try HIC (adverts in every The Golf and PVW issue). They do reasonable quotes (unfortunately now only do classic car insurance on cars older than 15 years, fine for my 2 Roccos, though 8) ). Direct Line will even do LHD imports !! My Mk1 used to be with them just after I had imported the Mk1 (then switched to HIC). My Rado is with them (until I've found something better that is ...). Tempest
  12. Yup, see this every morning: Walk past it every morning, too. Luckily enough I can walk to work so I don't have to torture the Rado through horrible Coventry congested road traffic. Uhm, just noticed, that's now an old picture, no In.Pros on there yet  Tempest

    Road Tax...

Uhm, yup, particularly when cruising around in my Mk1 with its Sachs racing coilovers  But I presume it's the same in the UK as, for example, in Germany, where in fact the road tax, the fuel tax etc. is NOT invested back into the roads but goes to finance all sorts of gaping money holes the government has got, i.e. OAPs, social security, MP's salaries and wot not. Now that the toll system in Germany has also scandously failed, there is no money left to do up the roads, more unemployment (building industry etc.), a downwards spiral. Starting to see similar trends here, or is the M6 tollroad our last hope in the UK? Tempest
  14. Just OT: What are you trying to say, mate ? Tempest

    Road Tax...

Would have been too good to be true, as then I would've had both my Roccos tax free in 2 and 5 years respectively. Shame ... Tempest

    Coilovers

Just had a look at the ones on offer on German ebay: They are for ALL Rados BAR the VR6 !!!! I personally don't know enough about the Supersport range (going on German recommendations not to buy those, but stick to well-known brands, eg. KW), so can't comment any further other than what I've just read on the ebay auction. Tempest
  17. Panel filter for the G60! If you do want to play around a bit with filters than you can't really go wrong by getting a K&N replacement panel filter. You're right in assuming it's all about your G-Lader, as non force-induced engines can cope with nastier filters (Pipercross et all) that let through more fine particles. Tempest

    Road Tax...

Try 3 Karmanns, all taxed  , yup, that's 3 times £165, time to look at SORN over the winter months for the 2 Roccos next winter ... Tempest
  19. Are they locked bolts (i.e. anti-theft bolts) for which you need a special key? Tempest
  20. Just fitted the In.Pros in the freezing cold last night, where RobyD kindly provided the necessary lighting with his Rado, so I could see something  . Initial impression was a good fit straight out of the box, needs a bit of aligning (will leave that for the weekend - hopefully warmer, no snow etc. ), and they are DARK!!!! 8) Just what I wanted, as it nicely blends in with the black licence plate holder. Will post pics as soon as I have them. Tempest
  21. Can do 8) I forgot to mention in my previous post that the tinted In.Pros have NO Bling all over them, which the FKs do (resulting in some of the folks having bought the FK having to painstakingly de-bling them :( ), the casing is simply black moulded plastic, only the inner end, where the light bulbs go is chromed plastic. Now then, the original source that I had has now told me that his price of €229 was for In.Pros WITHOUT the E-mark !!! Apart from the fact that this terribly confused me (as I now think he was trying to flog me FKs, as all In.Pros have the E-mark) I then decided to try a different source, again in Germany. That source is where I got mine from, at €230 (excl. p&p), they are genuine In.Pros, E-mark, original box etc, and no 3-4 weeks waiting :D Just to let you know, I can still get the In.Pros (just done so myself :) ) Tempest
  22. I too contacted BP recently regarding the RON number on their Ultimate, after having found their cash till operators to be more than useless: Me: " What RON does your Ultimate fuel have, as it's not mentioned anywhere on the pump, the filler nozzle, your website etc.?" Cahtill-dodo: " Huh, what ?" Typical ... anyway, a quick phone call to BP HQ revealed that it's got 97 RON. Now I'm waiting for Shell to finally introduce V-Power, which they've already been selling for nearly a year in Germany: 100 octane stuff   Muchos expensive (approx. 90p a litre), but the G60- Rado-gang over there tell me that with an adapted chip it does rock !! Tempest
  23. Interesting, as on the German forum recently there was just such a debate in reaction to some stupid magazine report where a G-Lader sefvicing company claimed, too, that the cogbelt (driving the secondary shaft) was the main reason for failure, and what's more that it needed changing every 10000 km (approx. 6000 miles), to which a storm of protest came up, as this is not necessary. Anyway, just my ramblings ... Tempest
  24. Yup, me, still sitting on my kitchen worktop, mind, as I've just returned from Germany (quick visit to my parents, where I had my set of tinted In.Pros delivered to, turned up this morning just before I left again :D ) by plane, so I'll soon get cracking. But they look dark  , which is exactly what I wanted :D . They also have the E1-mark on them, come with some German legal documents (in case your Rado has to pass the German MOT, say  ), original packaging, fitting instructions, the lot, paid approx. 160 quid for 'm 8) Tempest
  25. Right, just had some feedback from Germany: In.Pros tinted (i.e. smoked) available for €229 (approx. £160) !! That's including p&p within Germany, I'm waiting for a price for the p&p to the UK. But that's a bloody good price, if you ask me, folks ! Only downside is that they'll take 3-4 weeks to ship :( I would need some confirmed orders at this stage, I don't envisage p&p to the UK to be more than £10 max.. I'll keep you posted. Cheers, Tempest (Eric)
