  1. Somewhere deep down THIS thread are the part numbers you need for a LHD Rado. Now unless some other VW dealers have still got them, mine told me I was in for a long wait, as Miltin Keynes VW HQ didn't have any either, and needed to order them from Germany. I've been waiting 3 weeks already ... Tempest
  2. Plan is still the same, as the meet has been advertised on 2 other boards as well, notably SciroccoWorld and DubClub. So I'll be turning up at 12:00 on Sunday, March 7th, as per otiginal plan, to welcome the others. Hope to see the Rados turning up later ... 8) Tempest
  3. Are they the In.Pros or the FK (without E-Mark)? More likely the FKs, methinks  Tempest
  4. My mate Dirk Schneider over in Germany usually has a few Digifizes knocking about. Quite a few folk have now fitted them to Mk2 Roccos, changed the backlighting to blue  instead of green (looks really nice). He occasionally sells one for as little as £300, provided you swap in your existing instrument cluster. Tempest
  5. Got my welcome pack last night Looking forward to issue 30 now that Jeremy has so badly wet my appetite Main thing has been done already: Applied the sticker to the rear window on my Rado 8) Now then, when was that AGM again? Probably can't make it, as I'm going to the meet on Sunday 7/3 Tempest
  6. Hm, a Rieger (that's what it is, isn't it?) Rado ... now just my 2 cents (Eurocents  ), on a Mk1 Rocco a Rieger kit just looks spot on ... not that I'm biased or anything  , but on a Rado, which already looks spot on just out of the Karmann factory ... Definitely a show car ... that's all I use my Mk1 for as well 8) Tempest
  7. OK, just had some feedback from Germany: €260 is the maximum price, less if we're enough takers, so come-on, break your piggy banks. Any colour you like, as long as it's either red/clear, all-clear (Lexus style  ), or smoked (tinted, the ones I'm after 8) ). Tempest
  8. Hi folks, As I have already been looking for some time for smoked In.Pros at a decent price, all roads lead to Germany  There may potentially be a group-buy starting up on a German forum, and hence I was wondering whether anyone over here in good ol' Blighty might be interested in the original In.Pros (all 3 colour combinations are possible) to bump up the numbers? Initial pricing (excluding postage) is around the €260 (approx. £183), but might be able to get that down to €230 (approx. £162). I do realise that: a) it's still more expensive than the recent FK group-buy, b) it's potentially very shortly after the FK group-buy that took place here  But: having seen the smoked ones, I do prefer the In.Pros, as they are soooo much darker than the FKs :) Tempest

    G60 oil

Castrol RS 10W60 is what I use, most Germans use it (mainly due to the higher speeds allowed on their Autobahns, and the resulting increase in engine temperatures) on their G60s. That oil is a bit difficult to get hold of, though, and not the cheapest  Tempest
  10. PVW has just upset me again: There's a reader's letter (from someone in Spain, I seem to recall - didn't buy the rag), requesting a poster with something else than just Golfs on there, asking for a poster with Corrados, for example. Response from the editor (or whoever answers these letters): A poster full of Sciroccos (!!, Corrado=Scirocco, it's official, OK, I'll let it count given that it was long known internally at VW as the Mk3 Rocco) would be horrible, or something to that extent. THAT immediately upset me as a Rocco-fan, given PVWs overall disrespect for anything other than boring Golfs  Now I do realise that there are 23 million Golfs out there (yawn), so the largest proportion of PVW customers would have a Golf, hence they need to cater for that market. But please, why not show a little more respect for other VWs (I don't need to mention the advantages of having a Rado or Rocco, now do I? :-P ), as quite frankly it constantly puts me off that rag. They then wonder about the slightly hostile attidtude from non-Golf owners *LOL*. Tempest
  11. As I mentioned in another thread, cruising on the M1 the other day with a mate of mine on the passenger seat, we got overtaken by a Honda full of lads, all bar the driver turning their heads towards the Rado, nodding their heads in appreciation and giving the Rado the thumbs-up. Made me feel warm at heart :D Tempest
  12. 34 years (still  ) Mk1 Rieger Rocco Mk2 Storm Scirocco Corrado US G60 Still have all of them 8) and love 'm to bits :D Tempest
  13. Yup, seen the feature, main reason that I bought the rag, and to be disappointed to see 2 Rados in there sporting the SAME BK 299 17" alloys as on my C. These alloys are common as muck  Tempest
  14. And I still don't like 'm despite the hot models, still think they look too "common-garden"-ish. But then again, since the Mk1 I've never liked the Golfs any more  Tempest
  15. Hate to burst some folk's bubble for my ranking: 1. Mk1 Rocco, preferrably with a bit of a bodykit, how about a Rieger ? :-P 2. Rado 3. Mk2 Rocco, but then the Storm special edition, lowered, alloys ... 4. Mk1 Golf GTI 1995: The end of nice Karmanns/VWs ... :( Tempest
  16. Just make sure the road doesn't belong to some b****rd private consortium, as I had to find out about a year ago: Driving along a roundabout near where I work in my Mk1 Rocco, when suddenly I heard all sorts of little stones hit my passenger door (LHD ! :-P ). Sure enough, damage was fingernail deep, so no polishing could rectify that. The road had clearly not been swept properly, as there was a building site nearby. I wrote a letter to the council with a bill from my bodyshop for having resprayed the lower part of the door. The response I got was that I needed to contact the land registry office to find out who the road belonged to, as the council did not own it !!! I did that, paid these (same) government b****ds the 15 quid fee, and yup, road belonged to Advantage West Midlands (AWM), managed by Coventry University (landlords of the building we're in). One letter to Cov. Uni later, and I was told to approach AWM, but alas, we need those gits for some occasional government grants .... check mate  Unfortunately I have to observe that most people just don't give a sh*t about these issues, "It's only a car.",  No it's not !!! Had to get that off my chest, sorry 8) Tempest
  17. Simple: Engine off, then Press and hold MFA button, turn ignition key on and off again. Then start engine (still holding the MFA button), now release the MFA button. Set MFA to mode 2 (the measurement mode). Press the MFA button once to get the boost pressure on the display. Just for completeness: No. of times MFA button pressed: Display: 0------------------------------------------Checksum 1------------------------------------------Boost pressure 2------------------------------------------Revs 3------------------------------------------Momentary fuel consumption 4------------------------------------------Signal from speed sensor 5------------------------------------------Oil temperature 6------------------------------------------Ambient (outside) temperature OK, then once you've got the boost pressure on your display, one has to distinguish between Motometer and VDO instruments. Motometer instruments show pressure in mbar (again, there are 2 types, one will show absolute pressure, others the pressure above atmospheric pressure, i.e. above 1000 mbar), whilst VDO instruments show digital values: VDO Value: Motometer value (absolute pressure): Boost pressure delivered by G-Lader (above atmospheric pressure): 15--------------------------200--------------------------------------0 55--------------------------400-------------------------------------0 90--------------------------600--------------------------------------0 127------------------------800--------------------------------------0 148-----------------------1000-------------------------------------0 172-----------------------1200-------------------------------------200 192------------------------1400-------------------------------------400 211-----------------------1600-------------------------------------600 228-----------------------1800--------------------------------------800 242------------------------2000-------------------------------------1000 255------------------------2200--------------------------------------1200 Readings should be taken at just before 6100 rpm (after which boost pressure is reduced again), any boost reading of less than 211 (VDO) or 1600 (Motometer) should set the alarm bells sounding, i.e. time to take the G-Lader apart :( Hope this helps folks, Tempest
  18. The new Golf Mk5? From the side it looks like the new Ford Fiesta, from the front like some non-descript rice-cooker, from the rear like a Peugeot 307. That's probably why the VW-logo gets bigger and bigger as well with each new generation  Tempest
  19. As Jim and I probably go to the same VW dealer in Coventry, I can only agree with what he's already said: Their parts department are a friendly bunch, good for a joke, I get the parts that I want without toooo much trouble. They've got a new kiddie now, that still has to ask sometimes (recently had the lad on the phone, asked him the difference between coolant G12 and G12+, he didn't know ...). I don't know about their repairs department, other than that they outsource that to an independent garage just around the corner from them. I have never used that garage, as I also tend to do most things myself, if I can. Tempest
  20. Yup, a mate of mine over in Germany had his G-Lader explode on him, not nice, having seen the amount of debris that flies out of your G-Lader into your intercooler etc. A means of protection against the engine and intercooler taking damage / becoming contaminated from such an explosion (which subsequently a lot of board members over on a German board have done, me included) is to fit some sieves at all the in- and outlets of the G-Lader. Normal metal-mesh tea-strainers will do, or even plastic ones for the bypass section. I still hope that mine isn't going to explode, of course. Tempest
  21. Yesterday I was driving back from Scarborough on the M1, mate of mine of the passenger seat, when we got taken over by a Honda with some lads inside. They turned their heads, gave us the thumbs-up, nodded in appreciation at my C, whereupon my mate (who'd never experienced this in any car before) asked me: "Does this happen more often?" Me:"Yeah, it's a Rado :D ", whilst I was trying to wipe that silly grin off my face again. Only car I get even more turning heads with is my Mk1 Rocco  Tempest

    body painting?

Same here: DIY! Best results, I found, is to get one of those spray guns for model kits, as they give a very fine (teardrop free) pattern, unlike spray cans, which I have always found give too course a pattern. These spray gun kits cost no more than £16, that's including the first can of compressed air. I have done my grille spoiler like that, just use loads of plastic primer first, then use almost 50% thinner to paint ratio, otherwise your spray gun nozzle will clog. Good luck, Tempest

    MOT

Got one myself, looks nice, that chrome oval tailpipe (Stealth as Milltek call it). Soundwise I don't hear that much on the inside, proving how nicely Rados are soundproofed on the inside, but get the window open, or better stand next to it, and whilst idling it gurgles quite nicely, perfectly matching the G60-sound :D In a nutshell: :thumbleft: Tempest
  24. Yup, there's Stanford Hall, Dubfreeze, that GTI show at Stoneleigh (forgot the name, was on October 5 last year, quite a few Rados there, despite it being an all-marques show, went with my Mk1 Rocco) and, of course, some local meets :D Tempest
