  1. New event to try: The Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon is holding its Spring Classic event, where all attending cars older than 20 years can get discounted entry into the museum for £5.00 per person (normally £12.00). Lots of usually interesting metal to see in the car park, chat to fellow enthusiasts, various car clubs attending, and this year for good measure there will also be the UK slot car festival on the same day at the Heritage Motor Museum, bonus! If interested get your name down on the CCGB events calendar :) Tempest
  2. Good meet with some great cars (ours of course and then a few others), interesting characters, glorious weather, and a very enjoyable trip in my Mk1 to and from the event. Good start for the new show season, methinks. More pics from today: Tempest
  3. Got a stand and cars!! :) So, do come and visit us. Here's the info: http://www.necrestorationshow.com/ Mike Brewer now apparently also attending. The CCGB talking about some recent and/or future resto works on the cars on the stand, so pure techie-talk :) CCGB Club members can get a discount on advanced ticket prices for both single adult tickets and family tickets. Save £4.50 on a pair of adult tickets by quoting a discount code (PM me for the code! Can't publish on a public forum.)or £12 on a family ticket that admits two adults and up to three children with code (PM me for code!) when booking online. Tempest
  4. Best weather to get my beloved Mk1 Rocco retaxed, wake up from its winter sleep, and get cruising to Telford :) My pics sofar: Tempest
  5. 4 more tickets going out today :) 1 space left accodring to the events list on the CCGB website. Tempest
  6. Tickets have arrived, first 5 going out tomorrow. 5 more spaces left on the stand :) Tempest
  7. Moin! (Regional dialect from the northern parts of Germany). Generally speaking used-car prices are much lower in the UK than anywhere else in the EU. There are some good(ish) forums on Rados in Germany, then you could also get an impression of prices on sites like http://www.mobile.de. Compared to the UK the G60 was the more popular choice in Germany, partially down to German road tax placing the VR6 Rado in a higher tax bracket (based on engine displacement) for relatively little extra increase in PS for most Germans. My parents still live in Germany, where abouts in Germany are you? Tempest
  8. Lots of hopefuls  Make it a definite! ;) Yes, need to be a member, but can sign up on the day, or better even, before the day itself, online :) Tempest
  9. I typically take the ignition lead from the coil and ground it, pull the fuel pump relay (don't want to flood the engine), then crank the engine a few times to get some oil circulation going prior to a proper start with everything connected up again. Tempest
  10. Dark (black) Rado on car park at Wickes in Coventry last night at around 18:45. I was in a company shed (white Fiesta van) buying floor tiles. Tempest
  11. Now's the time to get Mk4 calipers on there, yes, they introduce some slight new issues (like potential of bleeder valves getting stuck in the alloy caliper, but religiously undoing these every 2 years when bleeding brakes has never caused me problems with the valves getting stuck), but solve that dreaded binding handbrake issue, too. Indeed, it is a sh*t design by VW, my Dad's Passat in the 80s (Mk2 calipers) had this problem, and it always woke me up in the morning when he set off to work. Back then VW just said to my Dad, who complained bitterly, that this was normal! Erm, yes, funny no-one else seems to have this problem. Tempest
  12. New show on the horizon, organised by the same people who put on the NEC Classic Car Show: http://www.necrestorationshow.com/ The organisers said they have space for only 30 car club stands, each stand needs to have a minimum of 2 cars, maximum of 5, but meeting the following criteria to stand a fighting chance in getting the stand: 1 car must be in the beginning stage of restoration (ideally a trailer-job) 1 car must be at the end of restoration Of the potentially remaining 3 cars that a club may wish to bring, one must be in the middle of restoration (trailer-job again?) If anyone wishes to put their car on the stand at this event, the car needs to be on the stand for both Saturday and Sunday, and I need photographs of the suggested cars. This will be used by the organisers to select which club gets a stand. The organisers want to have completed their selection of lucky 30 stands by next week. No pressure as they say . Tempest
  13. Applied for a 10-car plot, and no, don't know myself till the actual day where the club stand will be located. Tempest (Eric)
  14. Yay, it's that time of year again, when Stanford Hall is well and truly looming on the horizon. The 2014 Stanford Hall event will take place on Sunday 4th May. For newcomers to the event, Stanford Hall is a stately home set in large grounds in open countryside on the South Leicestershire border with Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. It is located in the quiet village of Stanford-on-Avon which is 5 miles south-east of Lutterworth and 1 mile east of Swinford Village. It is seen by many as the year’s premier show but still manages to retain a relaxed family friendly atmosphere. Usually a good sunny event, for many also the official start of the new show season, so do join. Entry fee is still a reasonable £8.00 Cars need to be on the stand between 8:00 and 11:00. After that no further cars can be let onto the stand, because the site itself will be too full with people walking around ;) All cars must have left the stand again by 19:30. When entering your details on the CCGB website events calendar please indicate how many Corrados you plan on bringing, NOT how many people! Tempest
  15. Don't waste time talking about stuff here, register here and most importantly HERE instead  Tempest
  16. CCGB stand booked thanks to Ron, get your name down on the events calendar. Tempest
  17. All depends on what engine you wanted, carb or injection. The GTX had the poky DX injected engine (the second generation GTI engine, the first was the 1.6 EG). The carbed EX was quick off the lights, faster than a DX, but then ran out of steam a little quicker than the capable DX. All GT2 had the carbed EX. Special editions included the Storm (had one of those :), available UK-only), the Tropic (never available in the UK), Whitecat (never available in the UK). VW launched quite a few more special editions of the Mk2 compared to the Mk1, because sales of the Mk2 early on already proved to fall way behind those of the Mk1. Tempest
  18. Nope, the Mk2 Storms all featured the capable DX 1.8 engine (8 valver), but they were indeed all RHD, because they were a special edition solely made for the UK market. Those that can't see the beauty of a Mk1 have sh*t in their eyes  There's some fighting talk  Tempest
  19. Lilfuzzer - Chris sat and sunday at bruntingthorpe Vaghag - chris, Bruntingthorpe Saturday only ChrisL - Bruntingthorpe Saturday and sunday!! (that way I can have a few beers while the show is on and no risk of being drunk in charge driving to the show early on Sunday morning) Redborbet - matt , sat and sunday at any venue , lets say bruntingthorpe as its up to now the majority Micky fletch (Saturday) mic_VR - Michael. Put me down for Saturday, happy to camp wherever, in case the family don't fancy coming along as well in which case I'll just come on the day. Tempest
  20. Mk1 for me :) Getting a Mk1 is not THAT difficult, just need to look in the right places, know the right people, and there are some folk (well, one that springs to mind) that restore them professionally (started as a hobby, now does this full time), see here: http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carforum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7985 Then fast forward to current projects Ant's doing: http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carforum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=7985&start=150 The Mk2 is at its price bottom IMHO. Whether they'll ever fetch as much money as the iconic Mk1s remains to be seen. The Mk1s certainly are starting to go up in value quite nicely, especially in Germany, where Mk2s also seem to be cheap as chips by comparison 9at the moment at least). Tempest
  21. To keep the theme (simplifying my job here, folks ;) ): Lilfuzzer - Chris sat and sunday at bruntingthorpe Vaghag - chris, Bruntingthorpe Saturday only ChrisL - Bruntingthorpe Saturday and sunday!! (that way I can have a few beers while the show is on and no risk of being drunk in charge driving to the show early on Sunday morning) Redborbet - matt , sat and sunday at any venue , lets say bruntingthorpe as its up to now the majority Micky fletch (what nights?) Tempest
  22. Camping info added to first post :) Please choose a location. This will obviously go horribly wrong, so it would be nice if we can get a clear winner. Then if you're planning on camping start a list. Whoever adds their own name, please copy across the existing list, so the list grows, making it easier for me to see how many want to camp and what nights (Saturday, Sunday, or both). I don want to have to trawl through 20 million pages collecting names and dates  Tempest
  23. You can display almost anything at this event. There is usually a large free show&shine section where you could enter. Tempest
