Hi folks, Given the first thread somehow went off the rails, I felt it best to start a new one with the first post containing all the details necessary: On Sunday 25th of May 2014 we're welcome to visit the Cold War Jets Open Day at Bruntingthorpe, where the organisers of this event are expecting around 1000 visitors to come and watch and hear various cold war jets perform high-speed runs up and down the runway. Naturally these visitors are attending for a reason, their interest in fascinating technology of days gone by, and one may assume that the odd few may also have a healthy interest in our cars from an era gone by but an era that was comfortably after the cold war. This is the late spring bank holiday weekend, and from past years this weekend seems to usually be blessed with nice warm sunny weather, so let´s hope 2014 won't be any different. Gates for the event typically open at 9:00, first taxi runs start at around 11:00, and the event finishes around 16:00, but can drag on a bit if there are lots of people wanting more jets to do their stuff. As a result of this you can turn up with your Corrado any time between the start and finish times and join the CCGB club stand. Nearby Leicester will offer shopping opportunities for those wishing to start or end the day with a shopping spree. Plenty of hotels in the vicinity, Lutterworth, Leicester, if you want to travel from afar. Looking at camping options as of 2/1/2014. Camping: Found 3 options (first very basic, 2nd and 3rd for those that need at least a shower): 1. On-site at Bruntingthorpe itself, £5 per tent/car per night. Very basic facilities as in toilets - yes, showers - no; can have BBQs (off the ground only!!!!); can stay both Saturday and Sunday night. Main gate will close from 22:00 onwards, so you can't get off the site after that. 2. Brook Meadow, £14.00 per night per tent. Toilets and showers available. BBQs OK (off the ground). Strict noise policy in that we expect our site to be quiet from 22:00. 9.3 miles or 16 mins away from Bruntingthorpe. 3. Whetstone Gorse, £5.00 per person per night; on-site toilet and shower block 200 yards away from actual tent location. BBQs OK, but off the ground only; 6.9 miles or 15 mins from Bruntingthorpe Which location, folks? Ideally choose one! Campers: Please start a list and carry this across when you add your own name, so I can get exact numbers easily for planning purposes. Nearer to the time there will be a window type sticker that I would like you all to print out and bring with you, and have on display when driving through the gates, so that the event marshals can guide you to the CCGB club stand. Admittance is £15 for adults, £10 for OAP’s and disabled, with accompanied children under 16 years old free of charge, all payable on the gate on the day. Keep an eye on the CCGB forum for last minute news on this National Day, but for now, do stick it into your diaries. Tempest
  2. Not bad indeed, pretty stunning actually. Lots of custom bits needed. Saw a non-descript Mk2 Rocco on Sunday in Germany at a meet I attended. Pretty standard looking Mk2 Rocco till the owner popped the bonnet and placed a mirror at rear of car: VR6 4-wheel drive Rocco, all home-built. Had a thick photo-docu folder detailing all the work, all German TÜV approved, too. Tempest

Most folk already turn up from 12:00 onwards for some Corrado-chats and free entry to the Gaydon Heritage museum. The first Volksfest was one of the most popular of the early ‘new wave’ of VW events, and this show, the direct descendent of the original Volksfest, is always similarly well received.   9. Merc got exposed for doing the same in Germany. Cheap labourers from former Eastern bloc countries squashed into tinyu houses (share-basis of course) working for pittance salaries, plus German workers being paid too little and needing to be topped up by German state, all for your next "affordable" Merc! Every German should be entitled to a free Merc after all that indirect state benefit they've been receiving. Shame on you, Zetsche! Tempest

    No rear breaks.

    Just to possibly ask the obvious: Is your G60 a left-hand or right-hand drive car? All left-hand drive cars have the so-calle Mk02 system, where you do not have a brake servo rather than a pump-driven system which pumps up brake fluid to approx. 150 bar and stores it in a pressure accumulator to then assist braking. When bleeding the rear brakes on these systems, you need to turn the ignition key - not start the engine - so that the brake system pump starts, then open one of the rear caliper bleed nipples and press the brake compensator located near the rear axle beam. The brake system pump does all the work, pumping the fluid through the bleed nipple. Do not run the pump for more than 120 seconds, otherwise let it cool down before you activate the pump again. If your G60 is a right-hand drive car follow vw rules advice. Tempest

  15. Couldn't believe my eyes when I watched this documentary about aggressive driving styles in Germany (never! Wouldn't happen here in the UK :lol:) and a chap with 18 points on his German license (maximum) because of having been caught for aggressive driving several times, has a very nice Mk1 Rocco and a 16V Rado, where the rear spoiler mech even works :) See both cars (he even closes the bonnet properly!) from approx. 4:40, and then the rear spoiler a bit later :) http://www.spiegel.tv/filme/ndr-45min-wut-am-steuer/ Double-click on the big Spiegel logo. Finally: Those highly-paid boffins in Brussels have realised that this whole bio-ethanol malarky is not good for the environment, mainly because they have now finally seen that too many agricultural fields otherwise used for food production have since the introduction of bio-ethanol (and its subsidies by the EU) abused for the production of bio-ethanol. In other parts of the world this has even led to deforesting, which in itself has had a sever impact on the global ecology. The EU is discussing limiting the overall content of bio-fuels in our fuels to 6.5%. Just a reminder: This stuff is not good for our older engines, the ancillary rubber hoses, pipes, tanks (especially where metal and aluminium parts are involved), as researched and found by the Federation of British historic Vehicles, a no-nonsense organisation lobbying on behalf of classic and mainly historic car owners (those with potentially money ;) ) in central government.   17. I would seek legal advice perhaps. Usual thing to do if I were to live in Germany, hand such issues to your lawyers. Problem is most people do not have insurance against such legal issues to cover the cost of their solicitor. Do check your existing insurances, though, for example your own car insurance, and if legal cover is included, why not give them a quick ring. Tempest
  18. Great show as usual! Had an interesting drive to the NEC Thursday morning, my ABS pump having failed (and on non-UK cars this also means the brakes no longer work, very firm pedal pushes are needed to brake, as no assistance exists without the pump), big thanks to Jim for having driven my C back home again, whilst I was bringing a good friend and former G60-Rado owner (thanks to whose G60 I entered Corrado-ownership) from Germany back to Stansted airport, so I did also miss the horn-blowing finale of the show. Thanks to all those that did visit us on the stand, and yes, I can only echo what's been said: Best opportunity to show off your car (even when it's got a knackered ABS :lol:). Had a great 3 days!   20. Second that: CCGB have an excellent stand: Thanks to Ron and Jim for setting up, whilst I had to after having dropped off my C rush back to work. Spent the evening after work cleaning my C, and having a walk around the still silent halls, silent apart from Ed and Mike from Wheeler Dealers already testing their sound rigs :) Tempest
