SteveM16v 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Ermmmm has anyone driven a C at 130 mph???. Not that I have or anything (Mr Officer) but I was wondering if perhaps the steering seems to go light on all C's?? (car 1.8 16v)
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted January 18, 2005 The fuel tank certainly goes light at that speed - allegedly. Best wishes RB
SteveM16v 0 Posted January 18, 2005 ps I know they are not meant to go this fast but it was on a long straight down hill apparently
RS VR6 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Took my VR6 to 130 running my friends E36 M3. He had no chance. :cyclops2:
Henny 0 Posted January 18, 2005 I got clocked at 139.8MPH in J-DUB in the wet and she felt fine... Nice and stable with no problems either in the steering or with wandering/tramlining... She was still pulling (all-be-it very slightly) but I had to brake to make sure I could get around the corner at the end of the straight... :| P.S. this was GPS registered speed, not the reading off my speedo and was at Bruntingthorpe proving ground with Performance VW mag... Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 18, 2005 Yes they are stable at those sort of speeds providing the chassis components are up to it and not worn out. I've had my VR resting on the stop (160+ indicated, prob 150 genuine) and it felt as stable at that speed as it does at 90.... although you need to be very careful with the steering inputs at those speeds. Supercharged 2 Posted January 18, 2005 Same here, was also impressed at how stable the car was at 140+, the only time the steering did feel very light was when I shat myself and came off the throttle completly  Moving to general...
Majik 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Furkhi would know all about this one :)
Banana Man 0 Posted January 18, 2005 I had an indicated 160 on the way up to santa pod, racing a mk2 escort cosworth and it felt fine although you are very aware that you are going very fast and the slightest inputs on the steering are magnified over what they would be at say 80mph, it's good fun if you can hold your bottle and keep the go pedal planted
_leon_ 0 Posted January 18, 2005 when trying it out on a private road, 130 seemed fine - quite stable but just to agree with others, input was sensitive :)
SteveM16v 0 Posted January 18, 2005 How very interesting - is there anything Henny hasn't done or doesn't know ;-) I don't think it was particularly light, but just wondered. The suspension and tracking probably needs looking at but I've now spend over two grand this year and I'm not planning on any bloody more for a while! rmn 0 Posted January 18, 2005 i got 145 out of my vr6 golf and it felt fine, good suspension and brakes! I got 140 out of my g60 and it was stable, but like the boys said you have to be very careful at that speed. the bush that screws people up is the one in the rear beam, that can be worn and it causes strange handling, not good at high speed
SteveM16v 0 Posted January 18, 2005 being Irish did you do it in reverse (sorry :-))

AdamB 0 Posted January 18, 2005 I had 140 mph registering on the Snooper, in my VR. Felt quite sturdy, but you do seem to run out of road rather quickly!

rmn 0 Posted January 18, 2005 i was being a smart ass, its all good! Henny, your banned from answering these questions again!!!! as for running out of road, at 60mph you cover something like 200feet per second, so just think about what you cover at 140!!! Ze Roads are to Zmall, Ve need to go to Ze fatherland for testing!
Henny 0 Posted January 18, 2005 smart arse? Me?!? ;)
TomB 0 Posted January 18, 2005 135mph indicated in my 2.0l valver on the way back from le Mans last year, and it felt solid as a rock. I think my favourite quote was from the guy in the back who was reading his book; "I looked up and you were braking down to 120." Testing is still ongoing with the 1.8 valver, but so far so good at 120...
HiAsAKite 0 Posted January 18, 2005 262kph/151mph indicated on the autobahn... felt rock steady... But you do need to use v.v.v.v.gentle steering inputs at that speed..
