scarlet_vr6 0 Posted June 2, 2013 I've had a few chufties recently... always nice! Collected an old colleague to go for lunch earlier this week and she'd never been in my car before. She was full of praise about the car generally but also genuine surprise at the condition of the interior given its age and mileage. Popped out for a quick pub trip a few nights ago and just before I left, I could see a group of young lads hanging round the front of the pub right by where I'd parked. Made me nervous that the car was going to get damaged but when I left, a few of them wanted to know all about the car and asked me so many questions. One even said that he'd parked next to it so he had an excuse to have a look at it and another said he had a Golf cos he couldn't afford a Corrado... I was surprised they even know what a Corrado is - it isn't often that I meet people that young who do! Finally, I was washing my car today and my fairly new neighbour came over to ask me about it. Turns out he's a VW fan and has owned lots, mostly air cooled stuff including 3 Bays and 2 Beetles. Heard the usual 'I've always wanted a Corrado' line so I asked why he hasn't bought one but he reckons they're too unreliable. He told me that every time he drives up the close, he admires my car! He also had plenty of questions - must have been talking to him for at least 20 minutes! I would still own my Corrado regardless, but moments like these are a lovely bonus of ownership! Critical_Mass 10 Posted June 2, 2013 they're too unreliable. Yet, he's owned bays!?
dragon 0 Posted June 2, 2013 Was driving down the M6 today when a nice audi A5 beeped me (made me jump cause I was in a world of my own lol) he pointed at my rado gave me the thumbs up and mouthed stunning :) made my day shows the TLC I'm giving it is slowly working
scarlet_vr6 0 Posted June 2, 2013 Yet, he's owned bays!? that's what I thought, especially since he told me he sold the last one because it had broken down and he couldn't afford to repair it!! I was too polite to say anything though...
Redfox 10 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) Had a funny one: An elderly couple walks by me waxing a bit the Corrado, and they say: That is by far the best looking car in the street. Me: Oh thanks. Now if only it wasn't such a short street... A while later, while still waxing the Corrado, a former neighbour passes by for a chat, and he said: Oh that is so nice your Corrado; every time I pass by, it becomes nicer and nicer, when mine get more and more scrappy. ;) ;) ;) Cheers, Redfox. Tigerfish 10 Posted June 18, 2013 I was out at Sherfield on Loddon Wyevale garden centre on Sunday. When I came out there was a guy and his wife/girlfriend peering in the widnows of the car. They appologies ... lol .... and commented on how good it looked and how he had always like them :)
Redfox 10 Posted June 24, 2013 A couple of days ago I was out getting parts for my brake renewal, and the guy selling the spares told me, that he is a big fan of the Corrado, mostly the G60 ;) Had a talk about the model, and drove back with a smile. Had the rear tires changed today and the guy said he is mad about bmw's (his own) and Corrado G60'ies. Lol. Then he not only changed my tires, but also very accurately measured my BBS wheels to see if they were radial and straight - which they are ;) He said those wheels are very very well made. No extra charge. He even did all of this one hour after closing time. Well chuffed ;) Mmmmm, new tires, such a pleasure to drive with. Cheers, Redfox. ChrisL 18 Posted June 24, 2013 After a classic car meet the other night, stumbled across this on the web, great comment: http://statigr.am/p/481956310247972287_178926446#/detail/481956310247972287_178926446 Also, Saturday the Corrado was in for MOT at my local VW garage, the technician had parked it out front and got a 'nice motor' from some bloke looking round a Golf GTI 35. daves16v 1 Posted July 19, 2013 Try and beat this one - I arrived at the 4 wheel alignment centre today 20 mins before my time, parked up outside and sat for a couple of mins. The centre is situated on a small industrial area and a chap walks towards my car probably from another unit in the area. He alters his direction slightly to take a look at the grill badge and walks away behind the car and then turns and takes a second look at the rear. I get out and sit at a bench next to the wheel alignment centre when a minute later the chap having his car done comes out and says "nice car mate" and says he's got a 1987 Audi Quattro that needs some tidying. We chat for a minute. Anyway he goes back in the garage and 1 minute later a chap in a hire van driving past slowly stops and says "nice Classic car there mate, it's in good nick", then goes on to ask if I've got it in for wheel alignment and I say yes, he then says "they're good here, had my Audi TT done here". I knew they're good as I've been here a couple of times. So the guy in the garage reverses out and I drive in, up goes the ramp and the mechanic sets up the laser kit on the wheels. Couple of mins later a guy walks in and says "lovely car mate". Maybe it has something to do with there being an independent VW/Audi specialist and a VAG dismantler both on the same industrial area. So I drive away with a big grin on my face. Nice!
JEZR 10 Posted July 28, 2013 Decided that the forecast wasn't too bad so went to meet David in his Nugget in a lay-by near the entrance to Dorset Vokesfest. He said, "Wanna enter the show n shine?". Why not. Entered, parked up and did a bit of polishing as I've not touched her since Castle Coombe. Judges came and went. Was up the hill with Dave yelling. It turns out I'd only gone and won "Best Water Cooled VW"! Not too shabby as it's the first show 'n' shine I've entered. Nice home-made wooden trophy and winners T-shirt to look forward to in the post! Chuffed as....
owen g60 10 Posted July 28, 2013 Congrats. Proves you don't need 50 iPads and air ride to get trophies.
JEZR 10 Posted August 2, 2013 Congrats. Proves you don't need 50 iPads and air ride to get trophies. Can't think who you mean!? There was me moaning to Dave that because silver is common on the roads (not so on C's as it happens, no one takes much notice of silver in a line up of cars. Well, that's that theory gone bang! scarlet_vr6 0 Posted August 18, 2013 2 in the last few days! Quick trip to the stealers (parts obsolete, obviously...) resulted in this conversation parts guy (on seeing my rado out the window): oh, is it yours? Is it for sale? me: nope, definitely not for sale parts guy: swap then? I've got a '72 Beetle... me: thank you but it's definitely staying with me! Then earlier today I was outside and my neighbour (who I already know is VW fan and has owned a few mk2 Golfs) popped over for a chat. We were chatting about mods and I said that I've got an aftermarket exhaust but that I had tried to choose something comparatively quiet and as close to OEM as I could. He commented that it sounds lovely and the other day he heard me drive out of the estate and then up the main road. My face must have fallen cos he rushed to explain that it was not exhaust noise but engine note and that it was beautiful. Happy Fay!
James. 9 Posted August 19, 2013 Driving home early evening last week. Sunroof open, windows down type of weather. Passed a couple of late twenties cyclists at a slow pace into a corner. One of them shouts to the other: "wow, look at that... A Corrado" We chuckled and drove on with glee. That'll keep me going for another six months ! ozowen 2 Posted August 21, 2013 Sainsbury's Swindon on Monday. Wife in 303 so I had to take Meld shopping. When I came out one of the car cleaning people came towards me and informed me I have a beautiful looking car and how much one would cost. As I left I watched him watch the car all the way out. Portent 0 Posted September 4, 2013 I took my kids karting today and got talking about cars to the guy running the kids track. I was saying I had a Corrado and they were good cars but not that fast compared to a modern average car. His eyes lit up and he enthused " But it's a Corrado!" and then started asking me about it, whether it was a VR6 etc :) Not a major chuftie but it was the way he started enthusing about them that made my morning. Hofmiester 10 Posted September 4, 2013 Had two moments lately, on Sunday I was at the Shell garage near Newcastle airport and there was an AA man in a van at the oposite pump. He came over saying "you dont see many of those any more, she looks a minter" Also had a couple of guys in a White van wind their window down the other night at the lights, asking if it was an original colour or a respray. Again, saying "Loouks mint liek"

VR-Sixy 0 Posted September 28, 2013 Got an unexpected nod from the butcher today while he was mugging me of £48.00 for a 3.5Kg Saddle of Lamb! Said my Rado was 'looking very nice these days'......... maybe he's been watching it for a while. I told him all that's been done since April and his jaw dropped in disbelief. Always good to get a chuftie!! :)
seanl82 23 Posted September 28, 2013 My negative battery terminal is fubar'd so the clamp doesnt tighten down properly. Ive been able so sort it by twisting it a little if I got the dreaded click before, but now the alternator cant even charge it as its so loose. It manifested itself after I stopped off on the way down to Plymouth Friday, and I couldnt start the car. Anyway back on topic, I had a toss up between three people for who wanted to jump start me as they all wanted a bit of the action! All crowded round saying how nice it was and asking various questions. Lifted my mood when I could have been a bit peeved that I'm in for an expensive month now that both cars require money spending on them.......
JEZR 10 Posted September 29, 2013 I wonder if you rocked up to the butchers in a dogs dinner, would the lamb have been cheaper?!
