Guest Posted June 8, 2006 I used to own a GTE 16v, and yes they are bloody quick in a straight line, and don't stop that badly from what i can remember. Corners are a different story though. When it came to selling, i considered a Calibra. Test drove one, and can honestly say i haven't been less impressed with any car, other than a vectra (worst car ive ever driven IMO!) The calibra felt just like a Cavalier but sat slightly lower down. It even had the Cavalier dash!! This was only a 16v, and while the turbo may be quick (eating a VR6 for breakfast is a slight exageration i think), it's still a Cavalier with a few more curves and less doors. Drive a VR6, i guarantee you'll sacrifice any little performance gain the calibra has for all the other qualities the VR boasts.

MK1Campaign 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Not sure how you can compare the two. Cailbra's are nasty.
quicky1980 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Think everyone is being a little biased. Wouldnt the calibra turbo be 4x4? Ive been in a turbo 4 x 4 and its very quick in a straight line and around corners, better than the corrado I feel. ALTHOUGH before everyone bits my head off I would never choose a calibra over a corrado, after all its a vauxhall. Corrados have a personality whereas the calibras just seem to be bland. Think you just need to drive a corrado around for a little while and see all the faces turn, thinking what the f*** was that?
Dr Forinor 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Ive been in a turbo 4 x 4 and its very quick in a straight line and around corners, better than the corrado I feel. I bought quite a few magazines before actually buying my Corrado, (I'm the type of guy that has to do a fair bit of research before spending a bit of money on something), and one of the magazines had an article that had the Corrado in direct comparison to the Calibra Turbo 4x4 and the Ford Escort Cosworth. Now that alone shows how good the Corrado is, it's getting compared to 4wd cars, but in the end the article said that Corrado still handled better than the Calibra 4x4. DaveVR6 0 Posted June 8, 2006 When you own a C people point and stare, when you own a vauxhall people point and laugh. Ive owned both.
BigTartanJudge 0 Posted June 8, 2006 I HATE VAUXHALL CALIBRA'S, but then there is a reason for that.....
spike16vgte 0 Posted June 8, 2006 "I HATE VAUXHALL CALIBRA'S, but then there is a reason for that....".u got beaten by one didnt u???.calibra turbo is 204bhp with 201lb 4x4 and 6 speed.0-60 6.4 1/4 mile is 14.4 so corrado is slower.im trying to look at both cars rather than what make it is.corrado is better looking but abit slower.inside they are the same really, alittle bit boring but hey what car isnt(audi tt comes to mind).they are both heavy cars and both drink fuel like a somerset girl drinks beer.corrados are more money to buy and insure but dont lose money as quickly as a calibra.i have found a clip of a 440bhp supercharged golf vr6 if any wants the link?.rapid!!!!. VR6 0 Posted June 8, 2006 Zero to 100 there would be practically nothing in it. Think comments about being eaten for breakfast are very far fetched ... Stick a Schrick on the VR and they're a lot closer. Although chuck a grand at the Calibra and I'm sure you'd get an equal increase....but it would still be ugly ;) Don't call a C interior or driving position boring/dull until you've driven one. Personally I think it's a lovely place to be :D
Andy665 0 Posted June 8, 2006 I was training sales people today and they were drooling over my tatty old Aqua Blue G60, I know they wouldn't have been doing the same with a Calibra, its not that its a bad car more a case of the Corrado becoming a real modern classic

chrishill 0 Posted June 8, 2006 spike16vgte, you've come onto a corrado forum... what answer did you expect other than 'buy a corrado' :) only one way to find out which you want, try a few for yourself. If you're even considering a corrado you must have looked at the positives, as for how it compares to the calibra turbo I couldnt say, simular power probably sees them even in a stirght line dash but the corrado was, and still is, thought of as one of the best handling coupes of the 90's. I'm sure the calibra was good in its day, its certainly no slouch and it does look quite nice... but the corrado is better ;)
sciroccotune 0 Posted June 8, 2006 tbh i dont think i have seen a calibra that was rust free in a long time, most have badly rotted rear wings thesedays! you will find that most corrados are rust free, at least mostly
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 8, 2006 There is always the Calibra V6 if you're a die hard Vauxhall fan, which Regal Motosport can strap a supercharger to! In all honesty I think you will find the VR6 a little dissapointing initially as they're flat as feck off the line. They do their best work from 4000 onwards. Especially in 4th on the motorway, just keeps pulling forever. As with both the Calibra turbo and the VR6, they're both gonna be tired now and perhaps not delivering what they did when new, so you have to try both with an open mind. I reckon they're probably on level ground where parts costs come into it aswell as most manufacturers hike up the parts prices for their coupes as a lot of the parts are specific to that car. The thing with the transfer box, they lock all 4 wheels solid when they go, so that's not something I would want to chance personally.
BigTartanJudge 0 Posted June 9, 2006 tell you what spike16vgte, this is why I don't like Calibra's, read the thread: http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42876 aside from the fact it's a bl00dy Cavalier coupe.......and no standard Calibra Turbo 4x4 is ever going to worry my G60 thanks !
