Rob's R32 Corrado - FOR SALE :(

Recommended Posts

Got the new lambdas, they look like lambdas and the plugs look right so touch wood they work!

I think to begin with ~270bhp will be quick enough, it's gunna be no way like ~270bhp I had when my VR was rotrexed as this thing wants to pull instantly in 5th gear sitting at 30 so it should be fun!! Hopefully tonight I'll find out!

FWD + 3.2 24V turbo does not equal good progress imo. You'll just sit there melting the tyres. Ask Rob how easily it spins the wheels naturally aspirated....add a turbo to that and you'll be replacing tyres on a weekly basis

4WD is a MUST :D

Got something in mind Kev? ;)

Well the car's a bit better but far from perfect. One of my lambdas (CH) was the right one, the bosch part number on it was the same as one of the new ones, so just stuck the other in for now. It still wasn't very happy when it got hot, swapped them round and idled much better. It's not in limp mode as revs past 4k.

Took it out and it's far from quick yet, I don't think it's running on all cylinders. It sounds rough, definitely not normal sexy R32 noise, just loud and lumpy. Checked the plugs and all look the same and are in good nick

There's little I can do really without VAG-COM, it's doing my head in though! :help:

Worth getting VAG-COM though - you'll certainly get the use out of it over the next year or so...

You likely to take the car back to Vince?

Is the car running a black dual temperature sensor? If so replace it with a green one. 059919501A

If it's a MKV engine so should have a green one anyway, but worth a look.

Already got a green on in mate, it's running the standard grey one, the green one and then the yellow VR one for the clocks.

Yeah I need to invest in VAG-COM, I can't afford it at the min with buying a house at the same fcuking time!! :brickwall:

I've just got a cheap ebay cable which seems to work fine at the moment, or do you need the CAN Bus cable?

Yeah I think there might be another trip to Vince this weekend :( He's been really good so far though, I've been to his 3 saturdays and he's not charged a penny for helping with the ECU and checking lambdas etc :notworthy:

I don't think I need the CAN-BUS one

Mmmmmm an r32 not firing on all 6 cylinders? sounds familiar mate, i'm sure it's just a coincidence though!

You mean coils? I thought that but it's not in limp home mode :?

How far have you driven it? Perhaps it just needs the 200 miles to adjust to fueling and your driving style etc? Plus the fact it's not been running anyway for a good few months. I've got exactly the same engine in my R32 and it's hardly the smoothest thing going, even for a 2008 car.

But old engine in the new car...love it :notworthy:

Yep definitely not in limp mode as it revs to the top of the range but it feel like you only have the throttle part open and so it's not really that quick if you get me, and sounds rough.

I have only been taking it on a few short trips, I've driven it to work today though to give it a bit more of a run.

It's also got a big flat spot, on part throttle it feels like it has the urge to go and goes quite well, but as soon as you press the throttle it goes flat and then just slowly accelerates :confused4:

Sounds like a normal R32 engine to me

Only kidding. Sounds like it's still a lambda issue to me as you said only one of the new ones is right?

I ordered the 2 correct Bosch lambdas, when i got home I took my lambdas off and checked the Bosch part numbers against the new ones. One of my original lambdas had the same Bosch part number as one of the new ones, so I have left the original on so I can give the new one back. The other lambda I had in was completely wrong so I put the new one in. It now has both the correct lambdas (I hope!) but ones new and ones used.

How do you know the correct one on the engine is actually working though?

I wouldn't take it back until you've confirmed the ECU is happy with both lambdas, which obviously you can't do without VAG-COM.

I will get the proper Ross-Tech one soon, I'm literally in the middle of buying a house though, I have 2 fees to pay at the end of the month and I have already forked out for 2 new lambdas and insurance deposit of £250 this month and need to tax it still! :pale: :help:

The only snag of trying the other one is you won't get your money back if it's "used", hence why I suggested you hang onto it until it's SHAG-COMed. It's up to you though mate, you could just wang it in anyway and have the peace of mind knowing BOTH lammy lambs are new and nice and shiney and smell of lamb :D

Then the problem MUST be something else and the whole fixing every busted link in the chain continues - welcome to OE management mate

Yeah that's why I haven't put it in yet as I could hopefully get my money back for it if I don't touch it. Although I bet they'll be funny about it as I had to pre-pay for it as it's not a stock item. I will keep hold of it until it's been SHAG-COMed.

Well I spoke to Vince earlier and he reckons if it's idling happier and revving the whole range (which it is) but is lumpy and bit slow it could easily be a coil gone as apparently they are as common to fail as on the 1.8T's. VAG-COM should tell me this so I'm gunna see if the local VW specialist garage will accept pleasure in return for a session with his VAG-COM :camp: But I can test it easily enough by just running the engine and removing them one by one to see if any make no difference.

So hopefully that's all the problem is and I will soon have some proper R32 goodness!

But the plugs are all the same colour though? A lack of spark would definitely show up as a plug that's darker / wetter than the rest

Not outruling it though as Vince is the man, but if it defintely feels like a misfire to you, then that's more than likely what it is..... strange at such a young mileage though, but the R32 coils are known to be unreliable. Make sure the connectors are pushed fully home and also that the coils are fully onto the plugs. Might be worth replacing the plugs anyway as fouled ones don't spark that great.
