herisites 0 Posted October 2, 2009 have you run the throttle adaptation on the car yet? if you havent plugged vag com in then you will probablies have a whole host of errors on there that need clearing! All the errors were cleared by Vince last weekend and then re-scanned to bring up the lambda problem. I'd have thought it would have had the coil problem then though which they would have pointed out? I have a feeling it may be something else :( I haven't ran the throttle adaption through VAG-COM yet no. What's the procedure? I'll see if I can do it at a local garage tomorrow. herisites 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Yeah was thinking about replacing the plugs as well. I'm not sure which ones it takes, should hopefully be able to get some from a normal car parts place tomorrow though.
KADVR6 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Yeah was thinking about replacing the plugs as well. I'm not sure which ones it takes, should hopefully be able to get some from a normal car parts place tomorrow though. get the spark plugs for a new m3 mate, the standard pulgs used in the r32's are known for throwing the end of the spark plugs, plus the m3 plugs run slightly colder than the r32 ones so cold start is better with those plugs, i paid £32 for all 6 from halfords, these were the ones i was using http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E46-M3-M-3-20 ... 286.c0.m14
herisites 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Cheers Karl, I'll have a look for some of them. It's running on all 6 cylinders and the coils are all fine! Ran the engine hot earlier, idles fine but a bit vibratey. Disconnected the coils 1 by 1 and every one made it lumpy as feck when removed. Also tried disconnecting each lambda, which both made the idle go lower and start to die like it was before I put the new lambda in. Tried disconnecting the MAF and it died. So all 6 cylinders are running but it's not massively quick and sounds imo quite rough and not typical R32 (like Ben's mate's R32 Storm does for example!). I now know it's not the coils and don't think it's lambdas. What could it be? VAG-COM should hopefully clear things up!
Toad 0 Posted October 2, 2009 When the engine is under load it makes it more difficult for the spark to jump the gap, so it could very possibly be that. Or injectors?
herisites 0 Posted October 2, 2009 When the engine is under load it makes it more difficult for the spark to jump the gap, so it could very possibly be that. Or injectors? It's definitely when under load. At stand still it sounds lush when you rev it up, when driving though it sounds like a scooby! Forgot about injectors! :brickwall: It's only done 6k miles so they should be squeeky clean
CoxyLaad 0 Posted October 3, 2009 i am certain that once it registers some faults that it deems serious then they stay permanently and the doesnt run right until they are cleared. You are definately pissing into the wind if you havent got vag com mate. if you had the r32 clocks installed they would probablies be lit up like a christmas tree. As it goes you have no way of diagnosing faults!
herisites 0 Posted October 3, 2009 Yeah that's true actually. I know, I can't do anything without VAG-COM. I've got VAAG-COM just not got the proper lead. I have a cheap one but it doesn't work. Is there any way of getting it to work do you know? When I go in to the Options and test the COM port it finds the lead and says all is OK but when I go in to scan Engine Codes it can't connect. VR6Joni 0 Posted October 3, 2009 It's not the same issue that you get with the abs controller on a standard car is it, try reducing the latency to 5ms in advanced com port settings. Do a search there is a thread about it.

There's a check box on options page that says 'force dumb mode' - try that when you test the port. If using USB cable you may need to get a serial-usb driver and install into vag-com folder too. herisites 0 Posted October 5, 2009 Well no progress, Stealth were too busy to help me out this weekend which is fair enough as I have been there for the past 4 weekends taking up their time and not being charged! Took it to my local VAG specialist garage who I thought would be ok and he said I'd have to book it in, I only wanted a quick scan! He also said that my car was too old for VAG-COM :cuckoo: VAG specialist my arse! So did sod all really weekend, I hate wasted weekends :(

Supercharged 2 Posted October 5, 2009 VW dealer mate - it's a fairly current engine and they are used to fault finding on R32's by now... I'd just turn up at your local and try and get a free scan and some advice

Guest Posted October 6, 2009 I was very close to giving up hope after 3 months of searching AutoTrader for the right car, and the thought of an R32 dump did enter my mind a couple of times :) I owe my parents £2k though, that's why I am forced to sell. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 7, 2009 Yeah you can bring that Neil if you want, might as well make a day of it! Well don't sound too excited, you're only getting a nice leather interior out of it! LOL! That's plan B you see. Chances are VAG-COM will report back something we can't fix straight away, so may aswell make use of the day and do the interior thang? If that suits? Yeah that makes sense really. Touch wood it's just a dodgy coil or something that's easy to fix!
