Tempest 0 Posted October 31, 2006 ... now that I have SORNed all my 3 Karmann coupes (only 3 cars I have). I did have a rather nice and long last drive this season in my C last night, so that should last a few hours  What will the withdrawal symptoms be like? Let the winter begin, and pass by quickly ... Tempest
double-6s 0 Posted October 31, 2006 You'll be sweating and pacing round and round the room by thursday mate :)
Phil K 0 Posted October 31, 2006 I've just put another 6 months tax on mine - but did consider taking it off the road... I decided that as I only ever really drive it in the dry and once a week at most I may as well have it sat there for those occasional stunning winter days! Best of luck getting through it Eric - it will all be worth it when most UK cars of similar age are rotting and yours are still going strong 8)

Tempest 0 Posted October 31, 2006 So what do you do now ? Walk everywhere ??? Fortunately I can do just that, as a) it's the best way to get to work (alternative is crawling through morning traffic jams in Coventry, not good for my nerves, my engines - they don't even reach operating temperatures, as the distance to work is so short - and my wallet), as I do so every day anyway, only during school hols will I occasionally, if the weather's OK, treat myself to a spin to work in one of my toys. b) living in a larger city I have pretty much everything within reasonable walking distance (was used to that as a student anyway) c) still have the company shed, erm, 55 bhp Escort delivery monster van to fall back onto, should I need it  I did catch myself briefly visiting the Autotrader site today, however  Tempest
catch_twotwo 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Mine just went to bed tonight..... I'm already itchy. Still it's not midnight yet so still time for a quick thrash ;)
Jim 2 Posted October 31, 2006 Must admit, thoughts of picking up a nice cheap Micra or something have crossed my mind. Would love to free up some cash by garaging the Corrado over the winter and spending the money I save by not driving it, on it... Hmmm...
Stan 24v 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Balls to that, Im doing what the car was designed for, driving it!!! I'd like to store it, but cant afford another car
Jim 2 Posted October 31, 2006 Well of course I wanna drive it but petrol + insurance costs. Would rather drive a heap around over winter and spend the money I save on tarting up the C!
Mave 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Gotta feeling I want to make mine a second car, and get a nice Mk1 golf for a daily hack.
Tempest 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Yup, that's what I was looking for on the Trader today, a cheap banger, because that's what's good enough for boring things like grocery shopping and the daily commute (hence the term in the British language of "commuter car", a totally different breed of cars, dull and drab as most workplaces ). PhatVR6 0 Posted October 31, 2006 micra!! behave yourself. got to be one the worst cars ever made. trusty old mk2 golf every time, hard as nails, cost pennies to repair, just put the old bits off your corrado on it when you upgrade them!
mattosmond 0 Posted October 31, 2006 do you do micra? :D
Jim 2 Posted November 1, 2006 Japanese cars don't break that often - hence the appeal of sommat like a Micra. Old MK2's have been peoples daily hacks for years and are starting to get a little tired. Also, i'd LIKE a MK2 ergo i'd spend money on doing things to it - whereas with a Micra (or similar) I genuinely couldn't give a rats ass if it got damaged, etc so... I rang my insurance company yesterday for a quote on a 1.0 micra (came across a cheap one recently) and it was 40 quid MORE than the Rado!!!! Do they get nicked loads or something??? Walesy 0 Posted November 1, 2006 I've been using a rocco GT2 daily for a few months, it only cost me £600 and it's been fully rebuilt - in really good nick. It's an absolute hoot to drive, makes me grin every time I get in it, it's also remarkably good on fuel! If you can find a goodun amongst the pigs they're a great car for a daily IMO
Tempest 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Abusing Roccos as daily bangers, ... There are not many good ones left  Jim, you could always go for a Micra Tempest  Tempest
Walesy 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Errrrm, I don't recall useing the word 'abusing' :? I've never 'abused' a car in my life - that's the exact opposite to what I do tbh, i'm sure RKE can varify that, with the ammount of money i've given them in the past year to keep my fleet of VW's up to standard. double-6s 0 Posted November 1, 2006 I bet you rag the arse off it Dave! :) Its only a hunk of metal after all ;)
Walesy 0 Posted November 1, 2006 I give it a bit of a burn through the lanes now and then, but no more than anyone else would  It's got a weber carb fitted, and a fruity exhaust, it sounds like a spitfire  I love it .
bristolbaron 10 Posted November 1, 2006 i could quite easily garage mine over the winter as i have a company car. however, its being taxed today and will be treated the same as it is in the summer..

Exactly. I am using my oldish C bits on the golf - bargin. Eric good luck mate, can't wait until I fix my 'rocco then I can finally put the C to bed for winter and get that bloody engine fitted!! Tempest 0 Posted November 1, 2006 Errrrm, I don't recall useing the word 'abusing' Quite right, but using a Rocco during winter with all its nastiness such as gritters, rain, cold, traffic jams etc. is what I call abuse compared to nice sunny Sunday driving along almost empty motorways, country roads with no stupid commuters and other crap road users on the roads :-) Any car other than a Karmann type 53 is perfect for the former, however :-) Being in Cornwall, however, I'll let you off, as you probably don't suffer from the severe traffic that a nbig city like Coventry suffers from (well, more its inhabitants and useless commuters) Tempest
