CorradoVR6-Turbo

Ex-Corrado-VR6-Turbo.

Recommended Posts

At first I wondered who the heck "A hole otter lovin" (PMSL!!) was....
its VR6 he is being mean, wont change it back unless i pay up or he will send the lads around lol

I needed something that was easy to do,no paint needed ect, these fitted the bill, and i wanted them to scoop the air in,most other vents are to vent air out and i want the air to be scooped in,i dont have massive heat issues but i like things to run as cool as possible, heat soke from the head to inlet manifold was one of them and this has reduced that allot! :D

The bonnet needs paint at some stage,so maby some louvers pressed in..? I still like them, not to everybodys taste but im not fussed...at least you will know whos raddo it is

As for managment,i would have snapped up the DTA but i am broke and i still need to finosh the exhaust, swirl pot, twin pumps..ect ect.....lots to do lol

Im all set for this weekend at Harewood house, camping over ,so the nights should be fun... :camp:

Also i put some fresh oil in from the main tanks from work(free of course  ) think it was magnatec? noticed tonight my oil temp have increased by upto ten deg!!! So off to Vw for some Fully synthetic oil.

Yeah that sounds like the product of VR6's warped mind  He's an accountant you see, so he won't do anything unless you cross his palm with plenty of silver and his tough "lads" are actually his 2 (only) friends who like to dress up as the cop and indian from the Village People on Friday nights....... at his house

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you may have been better with scoop outs, because if the air pushed in with your scoop ins equals the pressure coming through the radiator, you can end up with hot zones. Think Subaru with it's top mounted interheater, that had really bad problems with air flow stalling at high speeds. The air flow pressure under the IC matched the pressure on top of if, so it didn't actually cool anything

What you want is the air flow passing over the bonnet to draw heat out because air coming in can't go anywhere because it will be countered by the air flow underneath the car......if that makes sense.

You're defo doing the right thing though. Thinking about cooling is often overlooked with these projects!

Yeah, heatsoak from the manifold....it's an issue with the VR alright. I get round it with 3% more fuel injected into the rear bank

DTA.....well, nevermind, missed oppurtunity on this occasion, but if you do get one, I can certainly sort you out with a map and a loom that will work really well. They do come up from time to time at good prices. I'd get the S80 if you can stretch to it as it has faster electronics and brilliant software, but the P8 works great too.

As for oil, I find Silkolene Pro S 10W/50 or Castrol Edge 10W/60 are a VRT's preferred slippery stuff 8) Especially the Castrol....it seriously uses sweet FA of it for the performance. Not cheap tho unfortunately.

I can second the recommendation for Castrol Edge, using 5w30 as a summer oil on my G60 at the moment and it seems to love it, much cheaper with a Halfords trade card the only real snag is that 1 bottle wont do an oil change - then it does get expensive..

Every VW I've ever had has preferred Castrol oil! The girlfriend's Polo runs on Castrol SLX 0W/30, which is the official VW oil for practically every petrol car they make now. Again, it uses precisely zero amounts between 20K services

Tis good stuff :)

The vents do work, everything is cooler, oil temps, inlet temps under bonnet temp in general are sooo much cooler so they are stopping infor now :D

As for the oil i will take your advise and will be putting that in soon.

james, after our last chat i thought there was too much effort and knowledge put into this one to sell again. I honestly thought this one was for keeps... Of course its your decision and many will try and talk you out of it (myself included!) but if yuo feel thats best then i wish you the very best of luck with the sale. btw, i would love to buy it, depending on what you want for it, if i had some spare wonga

yes i know, but im hot and cold with the car at the mo,once i get an idea into my head i like to act on it,even if it means freeing up some cash to do so....but im not trying to sell it,just ask about.. :help:

edit....ive been driving the white valver around allot latley,im enjoying the fact its not a heavyweight...nimbler,sharper into corners ect,so it got me thinking, why not dump the hole big bhp and do lighter and a modest BHP,say a tuned valver on thorttle boidies ect...?

But i drove the VR around today and got lots of random thumbs up,genrally good vibe and put a smile on my face.....so i get torn between keeping it or doing up the valver or having both .........

yes im :cuckoo:

edit...edit,or put a twin cam TDI motor in the valver,power,MPG....Lightweight? not with a TDI.. :bad-words:

Did you happen to see this week's episode of Fifth Gear with the Civic Mugen RR? Red car...black bonnet nostrils...hmmmm. I wonder if the Honda engineers read this forum...

That's cause you're an engineer at heart

You'd be doing yourself a serious injustice if you sold it now imo. The way the market is, you'd get sweet FA for it. Not worth it. At least hang on until the marketplace stabilises again :D One good selling point is you can tax a 400hp VRT for £200 a year, or you can pay £400 a year for a post 2001 2.0 Mondeo

You'd love a valver turbo. Awesome engine :D

The valver always was the nimble one, the VR is the cruiser!

A 2.0TFSI conversion still has a glimer of appeal for me actually....

Yes i do come up with some stupid ideas some times, but the urge for something different has passed on thanks god!

I am trying to sorce an OBD2 set up at the mo so i can run the C2 software so i can start to enjoy some power instead of being parranoid of it running lean with standard managment etc! so watch this space...

Ive also fitted some new discs,pads,bearings,h-brake cables and MK4 calipers to the rear, gave all the calipers a lick of paint and it looks good as new and the hand brake is soooo much better!!

As for the alloy pipe,it was some spare i had about,no idea were it came from, but its hard to machine a round tube to the stock runners, best off getting some half moon shape from http://www.rossmachineracing.com/intakepartspage.html I get most of my DIY parts there.
