The Forced Induction 20V Thread

Recommended Posts

Right then, Tacho time.

I have read you can use a late cluster and it will work with the 1.8T OEM ECU so my first question is

Is that right?

If it is right, my second question is

Is it possible to create a hybrid cluster that has the speedo cable and late tacho?

i used a later set of clocks and used a vss out of 1.8t gearbox, you can get the speedo working but i cant remember exactly how i did it right now so ill have have a look tomorrow, there was some wiring and splicing involved, as for the tacho, im not sure the tacho will work without modification either, someone else did that for me (swict) also the inicator lights on the instruments panel have to be wired differently and the oil light will keep flashing, but these are easy enought to fix, i asked these questions before and someone gave me the now how on how to do it, if u want to check my posts, i think its under "g60 clocks into 16v or somthing like that, ill get back to ya on the speedo issue anyway

Has anyone had problem with forge 008 DV before? I'm after swapping the old 710N valve back as it was dumping boost at 20 psi even though blue spring was fitted. Now its running smooth again and full 28/29 psi tapering to 20. Kind of unusual but as coming off throttle is much smoother, maybe just the piston design of the forge DV doesn't suit 1.8t?

im currently doing the loom now i have a guide but its not the best how to :/

i dont mind using the a3 clocks and barrel/keys as i have them, so does anyone know how i can intergrate it to the 1990 16v loom? cause im guessing the engine will need a feed for the ecu and also something to do with the fueling?

thanks

Not sure on the answer to your question, but another option is to get the immobiliser coded out of the ECU which does away with the need to use the clocks etc from the donor car.

Get the ecu de-coded.it makes life so much easier, believe me! Can't remember who does it but its about £50 and saves you so much work. I got my rpm counter working with a digital to analogue convertor but it causes problems with the cluster. I keep my original cluster as its cable driven but it still has the vss internal in the cluster so you can tap the signal for ecu to use

andyout on club gti does the immo removal cheap

For rev counter, I ftted the later digital cluster, rev counter works of the ECU, just needs the vss and a couple of other mods for indicators and temp gauge,

There a write up on vortex

Gti forum? Same one I used. The vss your talking about the sender where the speedo cable goes on the gearbox? I haven't ever seen the harness for electrical speedo on old raddos, must have been from 91 onwards. Can anyone clarify if it was just a separate harness add-on like the cruise control was or was the whole loom different

Thought I'd add this in here

Seen a few mentions of the brake cylinder hitting the cam cover and mine did while it was on the road.

So with the engine out again I looked at the cylinder, I have a 3 outlet 22mm, the fourth outlet is not used so has not been drilled and threaded, looking at it I assumed the it was solid in that area so I ground it back to be flush to the cylinder body.

It now clears the can cover :)

Im going to be starting a 20vt conversion soon on my 94' 2.0l 16v.

My mate (in the same unit as me) has an auq engine on 96k with a brand new k03s which he's selling me,however thinking of using an agu thottle body, ecu and wiring loom. Will I have any problems with the running of this? Also do I need to upgrade my brake master cylinder / fuel pump? Oh and is there any way you can get the MFA to still work?

Many Thanks

Dave

MFA will only have speed and time. mpg and others wont work and there is no known way to get them working. Brakes i would deffo upgrade because even 280mm struggle at higher speeds. fuel pump will be fine so long as its in good shape. AUQ engine is DBW and AGU is DBC so you cant use dbw ecu with dbc throttle body without lots of mods which arent worth the hassle.

Sorry Dan, did see this.

I got the VSS and cut the cable from the car I took the VSS from,

I wired it in when I did the rest of the engine harness, pins 1 and 3 are pwr & GND and pin 2 goes to the speedo

daveb142, you could convert to 288s from a late mk3 GTI or VR (are your wheels 4 or 5 stud?)

My engine is an AJQ from a TT, it had a k03 and DBW throttle, I swapped the throttle to cable and ran it of an AGU ECU and harness. I've now had it re-mapped and fitted a k03s

Brilliant thanks for the responce guys!

Rado20vt, that's what I'm hoping to do! I've got a full wiring loom available, seen some uncoded and stage 2 mapped ecu's from the mk4golfstore on ebay for £200 which look quite good! Just need a throttle body. And my hubs are 4 stud and wouldn't mind keeping them 4 stud. Will see how it goes!

Cheers :)

Hi, this may be a long shot but would anyone running oem management know which wire to splice into for the switched live blue/yellow wire on the t6/brown connector on an auq loom. I have a 91 16v k-jet so therefore ce2 fusebox but no pin 10 in the g1 connector as the clubgti oem management thread states this is where to splice in. I think the said clubgti thread is based on a mk2 golf 16v but not a k-jet so maybe the difference is in this. this is one of the last wires on the loom to do. any help will be much appreciated.

cheers.

When I did my 24v swap, I used g1/4 instead of g1/10.

Iv used g1/4 for ecu live. would it be safe to splice into that again(fused again)?

Can anyone tell me if there is a 1.8t conversion specialist in Northampton/ East Midlands please? Mine has already been converted but am having some issues with the car :-/ I have already sent the loom and ecu back to Quantum for re-working but still no real joy. Thanks
