just thought i would add this...

Hi Kris,

good to talk with you earlier.

Just to confirm the details.

Complete suspension overhaul with all new genuine VW parts.

Supply and fit KW V1's INOX version.

R32 wishbone bushes, track rod, rod ends, ball joints, recon rack, top mounts, rear beam bushes and top mounts, ARB drop links.

Subframe & wishbones media blast and powdercoat.

Supply and fit rear Eibach ARB.

Supply and fit CAT back Jetex stainless steel exhaust system.

Supply and fit Vibratechnics front engine mount.

New sump gasket, oil and filter.

New rover cover gasket, inlet upper manifold and timing chain check.

Suspension alignment.

This work will take about a week to complete, mainly due to removing the wishbones and subframe for powder coat and rack recon. We also don't like to rush things, this is one of our main rules.

Hope this sounds good.

Regards

Dave

Yes it is a fair bit, tho it does help being made redundant! :D Found a new job too...!

It will drive awesome at the end of that. Mine did when all the front end was renewed.

ooooh, i can't wait for the drive back!!!

Guess I won't be seeing you along John Nike Way for much longer if you've got a new job unless it's somewhere else in Bracknell. Liking the impressive list of upgrades. Currently getting my cash together for my DG splurge in April, assuming MOT goes well on the 20th. I'm looking forward to hearing what it's like when you pick it up.

Not down john nike way anymore nope :(

tho i'll be in bracknell still every now and then since the new job requires site visits...

Unfortunately i'm having to cut the list short of an ARB and VT engine mount as i have more pressing issues to deal with 1st...

Was having some warm start issues along with slight missfire... Dave ran a compression test... results as follows...

Compression readings:

1:11.2

2:10.1

3:10.8

4:9.8

5:11.3

6:7.5

Plugs are clean so they don't suspect the problem is engine bore wear, just a bad valve.

No 4 is a little low but within spec, No 6 is just out of the VW spec of 3 bar variation between cylinders. Hence it's not running quite right but still OK.

Removing the cylinder head whilst in doing the chains and clutch etc. Parts needed.

Head gasket set.

Head bolts.

Exhaust manifold bolts.

The head will be skimmed, valve guides checked and replaced if needed. Valves re-ground. New stem seals etc.

Ah well priorities have changed slightly... so i'm cutting back on the ARB and engine mount... these are bits i can get done at a later date anyway...

all other work is going ahead as planned!

An update from DG auto...

Hey Kris,

good progress today, engine is out of the car. Had a quick look at the top tensioner (couldn't get any pics) and it's knackered. Not quite reached the rivets but the pad has two large grooves worn into it. When we strip the engine and gearbox off tomorrow I'll get some better pics.

Aux tensioner is also dead as I mentioned on Saturday, belt if all cracked (see attached pics). Coilpack had some small cracks but nothing to worry about yet. The cooling fan plug has been broken around the edge, not sure how but it looks like it's had some heavy treatment in the past......Stat housing is cracked internally and hence leaking badly, crack pipe was also leaking, some dodgy repairs on one of the ball joint mounting brackets. The welded nut has stripped and then had another one added to the top of it......bushes are dead as are the anti roll bar links.........all this is being replaced with new so don't panic :)

More of the same tomorrow!
