swiftkid 1 Posted June 9, 2015 If it were a vr6 then I would say not but I've read a lot about 60k engines, long life service intervals and stretched chains... NOT GOOD! apparently it's to do with sachs stamping their logo too deep and weakening the links. Unfortunately I'm running an a3 engine which is the ultimate mongrel engine, bits of mk4/5 and audi tt. Would appreciate screen shots from anyone! mic_VR 3 Posted June 9, 2015 if i had my vcds I'd get some tonight for you. hopefully someone will read this and post something up. Is it a trait of the 3.2 then? I've not heard anything specific, but then I've not really read up on the R32 motor
Mk3highline 10 Posted June 9, 2015 I'd not Worry too much about th chain stretch mate at the moment as the vvt will be fixed to one setting whilst you got faults stored on the ecu Check your earths and post the ecu with the faults to vince to clear/coded out
Dox 23 Posted June 9, 2015 Vvt will be either advanced or retarded, there's no in between other than the time it takes them to move, it's controlled by solenoids on the side of the head opening and closing Feeding oil to galleries onto the vvt sprockets. swiftkid 1 Posted June 9, 2015 I've had another look tonight but there is absolutely no lambda adaption, I've checked over earth's and cannot find any bad ones. One weird thing is that it's saying sai relay is not connected when it is so I'm going to double check that, I might try wire up the solenoid as well to see if that shuts it up and starts behaving
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 10, 2015 Yeah I would connect the SAI solenoid and the carbon can purge valve. The engine won't grenade itself with stretched chains, don't worry about that for now.
swiftkid 1 Posted June 10, 2015 The carbon canister is connected but not plumbed in (VR6 valve) so might double check wiring and make sure I've got power going to it. I'll try get to wiring for SAI stuff and get it connected, got this weekend to play so fingers crossed I'll get some luck

swiftkid 1 Posted June 10, 2015 Yea, he said to send him across error codes and he will take a look. Going to try find wires for sai solenoid and get it connected and troubleshoot evap to see why that's being a git
swiftkid 1 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) Had another look tonight, found a broken wire at the n80 plug... One error code down, 2 to go. Had a look at wiring diagram and I might have wired up the sai relay... To nothing. Appears one side is connected to ecu, through the relay and then it looks like it just needs an ignition live so that's my next port of call. The lambda voltages are changing but still no adaption, fingers crossed if I can lower the error code down another 1 or 2 things will start happening! swiftkid 1 Posted June 10, 2015 On a positive note, it looks like my mpg reading might... Might be working. Can't say for sure as on the way to test centre I was obviously in open loop plus trying to get the cats stinking hot it was reading 1mpg but it's better than 99.9, well actually it's not lol, but you know what I mean
Mk3highline 10 Posted June 10, 2015 I've got a completely different set up but got egr and sai faults so been open loop for last few months and I'm getting up to 41mpg calculated super steady and mfa is showing a fraction more It's going to stealth the Monday after next to get sorted I hope, before I start on blower Just think it will be quicker once it's sorted
swiftkid 1 Posted June 11, 2015 Well another error code down tonight but still no adaption, sai relay connected and that's happy now. Can the lambda start adapting on idle or does it need to be driven to start the adaption. Obviously proper adaption needs it driving but just a bit of movement would be nice! swiftkid 1 Posted June 13, 2015 Well this looks better! Some lambda adaption at last! Finally down to the bare minimum fault codes, next step back to MOT station.

Mk3highline 10 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) Which fuel do you use? Try tesco momentum for the mot as I've noticed it runs slightly leaner than v power Edited June 15, 2015 by Mk3highline

swiftkid 1 Posted June 16, 2015 B@stard F***ing car!!!!!! HC is now within tolerance but CO is still too high, read 0.7. I'm struggling to find a reason to keep this POS now, anyone fancy a swap for a MK2 Escort?
Jim 2 Posted June 16, 2015 Might be time to try find a more friendly MOT tester!! ;)
Mk3highline 10 Posted June 16, 2015 It's still probably running slightly rich still you done many miles? Pour in about 10-15% methanol it will get you through mot
dragon green 5 Posted June 16, 2015 Was it properly warmed up ! Could you not give it a bit of a "thrash" right before the MOT?
