Same really - appreciate the heritage and history etc but I really can't see me ever owning one. I'd just feel like a scally getting in and out of one.

 

Not particularly pretty once you get past the engineering.

Dont think I would ever buy one, chiefly because its an Escort at the end of the day, I'm not 25 anymore and the mrs would never get in it with me......but I saw a mint one the other day in a petrol station and I did take an admiring second glance :confused4:

 

Talking of 90's legends, I can't believe some of the high prices of low mileage Delta Intergrales at the moment - again problem is I would also be driving around a lot on my own in one of these :lol:

The run out spec with the smaller turbo and deleted picnic bench is the one to go for.

 

As mint as that one is, I'd rather spend £17K on a UR Quattro, which is completely free of Burberry and arguably much better car technically too.

Like but would never own. At that price you are in the realms of numerous cars all of which would be better than the ford. RS2 & possibly a 4, Corrado VRT :D , R32 etc

Love 'em. Ever since one drove down our street when I was 15, spitting flames generally looking evil.

 

Could I part with the cash? Probably not. The image is shocking, and the Ford scene is generally a bit ropey, and you could get a similar driving experience much cheaper, e.g. a Mitsubishi Evo.

 

 

PS... Love the integrales too, but have you ever seen their engine bay?? OMFG. It would take me a day just to get the plugs out.

pretty bizarre too that when new in 95/96 they could be bought for Corrado VR6 money,quite ironic when you consider they were both built in the same factory about the same time,chav image or not you have got to love its residual value

At that money you could have an RS4 or even an RS6. Or a low mileage E46 M3, or Golf R32 (etc, etc...)

 

The Cossies are great cars, and in my view a lot more desirable than they were maybe ten years ago but the prices are frankly ludicrous considering what else is available on the market. I mean at the end of the day it's only a Ford isn't it?

i got brought up on fords, mainly granadas 2.8/2.9 v6 jobbers

 

if i was to buy a cossie it would have to be a 3dr sierra!

 

escort are still nice but sierra all the way!

 

i know some one who has over 20K in his sapphire but you would never know to look at it, even after a look you would still struggle to see it.

Never really done much for me to be honest. I know they have near legendary status but as John says, for that kind of money would MUCH rather have something fast and German - like an M5, RS4 or RS6..

It makes me smile to see one out in the wild.

If i was rich enough to have a ten car garage etc i'd have one as a piece of motorsporting history,along with a Lancia Delta, & audi S1.

The big turbo is the one to go for and most people with the later small turbo model upgrade to the bog turbo.

 

Not pretty really nowadays to look at but my god do they fly, drove an escort cossie with simple boost and fueling mods to 330bhp and 30psi boosting slightly too much but that thing just spooled up and decked off down the road, absolutely brilliant to drive bit slightly awkward driving position for such a raw car, still to family car position, you know the one sat bolt upright and square.

 

The thing with cossies as well they are really easy to clock some miles off them and also to beat the car checks with mileage.

i love em.. maybe im at the chav era of yooofs today.. being 24 an all but i remember these in the rallys when i was a kid. and i also remember the imprezas in the rallys which were uber cool as christmas.. now you can get an impreza for £2-000 or an escort cossie for £16000. i cant help but want to have one regardless of people think about em. anytime you see one you kno instantly what it is!

I was around when they brought them out and in my view the ?ber cool model remains the original whale-tailed Sierra Cosworth. It's a shame they are just so rare these days but I saw what appeared to be an unmodified example in white on the A34 a couple of years ago (it was early Sunday morning and the car was really clean so I suspect it was travelling to a show as well!) and we did slow and admire it for a mile or so. Just amazing.

 

I'm not sure about values now but 2-3 years ago the Sierras were a lot cheaper than the Escort Cosworths. I saw a very clean Sapphire Cosworth at Trax in 2006 for £7k but I suspect values have increased since then. It's just a shame that so many of them fell into the hands of the MaxPower brigade and were butchered, thrashed and crashed.

 

That said, I know a few people who would argue that as a drivers car a MkII RS Escort beats any of the Cossies into a cocked hat. Judging by the residuals of those they may well have a point! We should be perhaps be grateful that a lot of the VW Community is still obsessed with MkI & MkII Golfs rather than Corrados & Sciroccos.

still liked em when they came out and drove a couple and heavy modded ones at that and they do fly !!
