stretch. 0 Posted November 4, 2010 The current st and rs use a volvo 2.5 5pot turbo, hence why there's loads of mods that have been available for them from the get go. Next gen ST is to use a ford Ecoboost 2litre 4pot turbo, which is mazda derived and feature twin inlet adjustable valve timing as well as a tasty little turbo. Friend of mine has a white rs with some choice mods ontop of some mountune upgrades and he's seeing around 380 -390 hp last time I checked in with him, keeps on blowing the downpipe from the turbo mind, but once miltek sort that he'll be giving a lot of cars a run for their money again. As for round my area, it's usually only idiots in corsas/saxos/escorts/any other old pile of shit, that try it on. 1.8 16v corrado... the fastest slow car you'll ever own. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 4, 2010 How do you compare with M3s and M5s performance wise? I had a jolly jape with a V8 M3 three years ago whilst out on a test run. I'd just fitted a new GT35R, schimmel BV head and 263 cams so ran it at low boost (8psi) to make sure things were OK and got into a little duel with said M3. From a rolling start from 70ish, we were neck and neck to 150ish, not much in it at all. The M3 is big and heavy and a VRT is small and comparitively light, so it's just a numbers game really :D I'd have no trouble leaving one for good with higher boost though, well, until I leave bits of gearbox and engine on the road and he roars past me laughing  If you're talking about the older Ms, then they are no sweat what so ever. A lot of them are knackered now and many of the 3.2s never made the quoted 321hp anyway....nearer 300. 8psi of VRT is usually around the 340hp mark, sometimes more, depending on spec. I don't go looking for races and anything that tailgates me aggressively is game for a arse whupping......but these things happen and I'm not going to take the moral high ground and pretend otherwise :D
WigsVR6 0 Posted November 4, 2010 Cheers for the reply Kev sounds like great fun just wish I had the funds to turbo mine :(
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 4, 2010 Fun for sure. Doesn't have to be expensive though. I know someone who has turboed a VR for a grand, LOL! Using s/hand bits etc......

greasegriff 0 Posted November 4, 2010 Just to add my 2p.... A guy I play footy with has a standard RS and from the lights on the way home, nothing in it up to 100. I'm probably pushing out around 295bhp now I think so fairly evenly matched. I've spent maybe 5k on my C now (wheels, suspension, SC etc) and I think it handles and goes absolutely great. Friend of mine had a blast in it last week-end and you couldn't take the grin off his face! His daily is an old-style Civic Type R, but he's also owned an S2000 and a 911. He reckoned it was quicker than the S2000 and gave the 911 a run for it's money on the grin stakes (I've already dusted him in the Type R) so I think Corrado's can be fantastic with a bit of investment. That said, for 10k, there are many options (as discussed in innumerable threads) which could put a grin on your face.
Jim 2 Posted November 4, 2010 You could buy so much decent metal for £10,000... just off the top of my head: E46 M3 E39 M5 Porsche Boxster Audi S4/S6/S8 Merc E55 AMG Merc CLK 55 AMG Of course.. not that we'd want the potential bills for some of those cars but does put it in perspective a bit! :)
Peebee 0 Posted November 4, 2010 Just put a 4 motion engine in your Rado, LOVELY.... Mines at around 215 - 220bhp and that before a turbo! Focus RS's are sadly becoming a very chavvy car. Oh and dont bother with a Boxster, poop and slow!

Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted November 5, 2010 Somewhere on a Ford forum there is an RS owner posting a thread along the lines of... "I was booting it hard and I was really struggling to catch the guy up. I finally managed to do it and as I got close I realised the car I was chasing was nearly 20 years old and with almost half the power of my RS. I was a little disappointed tbh so what can I do to get more power? The fekin thing looked damn nice too... never knew those sciroccos were so capable for their age"

I've spent maybe 5k on my C now (wheels, suspension, SC etc) and I think it handles and goes absolutely great. Impressive! S2000s kept in their powerband are bloody quick. A completely different animal to the Civics and things. Totally agreed on Corrdos with some investment = Happy days :D
