seanl82 23 Posted April 3, 2018 I think it's a load of bollocks that they have to implement it, but I can't say I disagree with the reasoning. It's called moderation. I'm not particularly slim but I don't gorge on sugary foods, and I've instilled enough discipline in my kids so as they don't either most of the time. (They have the last week on Easter eggs but I won't deprive them of that childhood treat). This is what it boils down to though, obesity in children, and the only people I blame are the parents. The highest affected are low income families who buy high calorie ready meals as they are so cheap, and also give in to their kids allowing them to eat sweets and drink sugary drinks just for a quiet life. As a family we eat out twice a month where the kids are allowed a fizzy drink if they want, though they usually have orange juice and still have water with their meal. Friday night is pizza and movie night where they're allowed a cookie or ice cream, and any other night they have yoghurt for desert. Water or squash is all they drink bar the odd hot chocolate. Both my kids are slim and athletic as they are encouraged to run around, and both enjoy fruit and veg. They've been educated on the benefits of eating healthy, exercising, and only eating sugary and fatty foods in moderation. The sugar tax is just the first step in reducing childhood obesity, so Whilst I sympathise slightly with low income families as this is who it will affect most in the long run, vegetables are dead cheap and you can make a good meal with little else, but sugary drinks simply don't need to exist. I haven’t been to the quacks in 15 years , the last time I went was for a quick medical for a mortgage. I could not believe it when he weighed me , I’m 5’ 11 , I was 11 stone 5 , he said if you were 12 stone I would suggest looking at your diet !!!. I’m standing there in me boxers without an ounce of fat showing! Cheeky git . Modern society is to blame for obesity, no one has to do much any more because we have progressed so much with easy living. GrahamU 6 Posted April 3, 2018 I've had a sweet tooth for all of my 48 years and I'll be honest and say I'm a little overweight (would be classed as obese) but I have only been to the doctor once in the last 14 years that I've lived here and that was to get a referral for a hernia, I've been in hospital twice in my life, first to have tonsils out at the age of 7 and the other to have my hernia fixed. I have all my own teeth and no fillings, I check my blood pressure every now and then which is lower than average and my cholesterol is ok. The problem for my weight is when I'm working away I dont eat till late and have a beer then go back to a hotel room to either work on the laptop or sleep, I always put some on when I'm away then loose some when I'm back home

GrahamU 6 Posted April 4, 2018 I prefer morrisons doughnuts, the sugar is powered, but again in packs of 5 and custard of coarse :)
delfinis38 1 Posted April 4, 2018 Marks n Sparks do a mean doughnut. Packs of 4 so you don't feel too guilty.
Gti_Jamo 10 Posted April 4, 2018 A jam donut would make me ill for weeks. My body hates sugar so need to limit it. Jam has 10 times the sugar over custard, is actually in most cases 50% sugar. I take it only from natural sources.

Gti_Jamo 10 Posted April 4, 2018 Lols.....Petrol stations are tough going as most are lined from top to bottom with all sorts of sugary snacks. Usually all within arms reach as you wait in the the que. I think my local shell garage has about 25 feet of just chocolate from the till to the door. When I was a kid you could by fan belts , exhausts etc from our local Mobil garage , I think the only food type stuff was peppermints and chewing gum . corrado_sunderland 0 Posted March 17, 2019 Dont even get me started on this sugar tax business. All it means is now 99% of normal priced pop etc in the supermarket is laced with cancer causing, bone damaging rubbish. Aspartame is listed on the NHS as carcinogenic. And worst of all 99% of the population seems f-ing clueless how bad artificial sweeteners are for you. Nanny state making decisions for you grrrrrr Rant over
Geeba 0 Posted March 18, 2019 Fully agree - I avoid aspartame like the plague! - the people that seem to think Macca's and burger king is a normal everyday food has ruined it for the rest of us when they can't stop stuffing things that for me as a kid where a treat and not by any means a staple! Same as ugly birds ruined pit girls! :D - worlds going bonkers - too many snowflakes.
Jikoolaqy 10 Posted March 24, 2019 Do not you think that the world went crazy many years ago? Look at all the existing local wars, state regimes in African countries, and above all look at modern America. We all live in debt and are totally dependent on capitalists. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 26, 2019 Yep, the world has always been mad but as the population grows, it will keep getting madder. The part of our brains that used to be occupied with survival instincts has been replaced with.....the internet, games consoles, facebook, instagram and Amazon. If the world suddenly shut down....no electricity, no gas, no heating, no medicine, no prepared food, no clothes, no petrol, no transport.....nothing.....I honestly believe 90% of the population would quickly die of starvation. I think 70% of the population would kill themselves once their phone battery runs out. Life isn't worth living without likes. Only a small minority of people with common sense and life skills would survive. There won't be any prizes for coming last this time, all the entitled f'cks who expect a free ride through life will die off quick sharp, yay  But until that happens, I guess we have to put up with being told sugar is bad for us, told to stop farting by the Extinction Rebellion otherwise we'll all be dead next year, suffer the national embarrassment that is Brexit and watch what pronouns we use around people who don't identify as male or female. Jesus christ, what the hell has happened to the human race? All I see on the news these days is a bunch of soy swilling, outraged, spineless, professional victims throwing tantrums over a difference of opinion. Let the extinction begin with those people.....and the Extinction Rebellion....and Greta Thunberg.....and Mark Zuckerberg.

Not unless you like driving a Yugo. I think when you see kids sitting together and they are looking at their Iphones and there is no verbal interaction between them, pretty much sums up the situation that modern communication has caused. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 26, 2019 We are moving more and more towards communism though. The majority vote of the public to leave the EU has been ignored. The Chinese are working on global censorship, and the American far left and climate alarmists are all working towards socialism. History does repeat itself though, so another world war is inevitable. I'm too old for national service, but all these kids that think real war zones are like Call of Duty will be in for a shock

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 29, 2019 I do actually feel sorry for Greta. The climate weirdos have stooped to an all time low using an autistic child as a political weapon like that. They are deranged, deluded and dangerous people. The majority of the planet who are capable of rational thought know and accept humanity could respect and treat the planet better, so we don't need cultist odd balls lecturing us with their BS. I see Brexit has been delayed yet again. It's fairly obvious parliament is trying to create a 'fog of war' situation where no one knows what the f'ck is going on, leading to a 'Ah f'ck it, let's just cancel Brexit'. And if that does happen, I think there ought to be mass demonstrations about their undemocratic behaviour. Maybe we are due another peasants revolt. Pitch forks at the ready people!
