Tekara 0 Posted July 31, 2004 Looking for some fast advice on headunits. Just bought a car from a specialist said they would fit a stereo for me, didnt like the units on offer. Said i could choose my own for a little extra. So looking in the £150-£250 bracket looking for good EQ control, must at least have a black edge if not entire unit. Subwoofer control if they have any, good sound. Thats about it, just looking to save hassle for later, will uprate speakers and add sub soon if they dont already throw that in too. Thanks in Advance
Scott 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Check out the mid range Pioneers.... You will be able to get one for circa £220 and will get OEL display / EQ / Sub woofer control / DSP / and 60W per channel.... cracking head units.
coolrado 0 Posted August 4, 2004 try some of the online car audio shops i managed to get my pioneer deh p8400mp for less than half the price halfords wanted  i think it was mcs direct :?: ive also bought bits from hendon car audio and car audio direct very cheap 8) the sound from the pioneer was a vast improvement over the kenwood cd mask i had the kenwood sounded dull and lacked power but the pioneer sounds great and is packed with features and looks 8) you should be able to get something from the upper mid range for that sort of money try getting this months total car audio magazine its got plenty of reviews and is usually un-bias
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 4, 2004 The Pioneer DEH-P77MP is a cracking unit, but it's not black. Still looks and sounds great though with all the features you need, and more.

RadoAds 0 Posted August 4, 2004 I think ive tried all the different brands over the the last few years, and to be honest i wouldnt have anything but Alpine now in fact the one i have in the everyday runaround (galaxy  ) is still going after 8 years, I paid 1400 for the 7568-r (i think) and the ai-net 12 disk changer its been in at least 5 different cars and still puts more modern systems to shame, I then put a single disk Alpine in my old Valver, cant remember which model off hand but for under £200 and couldnt fault that in any way shape or form, so Alpine it is 8)

Looks that way on the website but it's brushed aliminium. A sort of dark titanium finish.
STORM 2 0 Posted August 4, 2004 I've always bought Sony headunits but Im not sure why I do - the radio reception is either down to Sony or VW's in general cos Ive only ever had both and the reception has always been consistently poor

Jim 2 Posted August 4, 2004 Pioneer DEH-P7600MP - £199 @ http://www.celdirect.com If I had £200 spare, i'd be plonking it right on that head unit. The OEL display is mesmerising (I still found it a novelty after 1 year+ ownership on my P7400), plays MP3's, has great output control options, looks the bomb, and sounds great too. Though er.. not black unfortunately.
ben16v 0 Posted August 4, 2004 again not black but my alpine cdm 9807 rb is good, 2 x 2vpre outs, 1x3v sub preout with sub adjustment on HU,4 60 watts under £200 too
bighairymuppet 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Anything would be better than my jvc unit and only the tweeters up front and one speaker working  . damm wiring...... (have rear speakers that definetly work have tested them. They may become spare if after wiring is fixed if the ones in the car are ok so keep an eye out if your needing original 6 x 3's..... what a silly size  .) Got one fitted in my C! Looks great, is MP3 and WMA compatabilie, sub woofer control, 3 x pre outs, RDS, 50Wx4, Wicked titanium looking removable panel and is remote control compatablie too!! Think I paid about £230, Halfords wanted over £300!!!! Found it cheap here though: http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product ... duct=19469 It really is a cracking unit, really looks good in the dash too........ chrishill 0 Posted August 11, 2004 I've got a pioneer mp7400 in mine, bit less retro looking than the p77mp, but shares alot of the same features and its top banana! so many options to adjust the sound its unreal and a total dream if you're like me and like to 'fiddle' to try and get the best sound possible. I like the look of the p77mp over mine, it looks much more at home in a C. beeftech - you got that little remote thing too! mine hardly gets any use, i cant find anywhere on the steering wheel where its not in the way when driving, but is easy/comfortable to reach when you need it. :(
rado-steve 0 Posted August 12, 2004 Mainly got the remote for the ATT function! Where I have mounted mine it dunt get in the way, used to have it on the otherside, but it just pi**ed me off, so moved it! Steve
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 12, 2004 Beeftech, cracking unit isn't it? Had mine optimised to my 6.5" components and sub tonight and it shames a lot of home hi-fi setups. We tried allsorts, Madonna, classical, Jazz, House, Groove armada.....everything and the soundstage was bang in the middle of the dash (where you want it) with crystal clear highs and mids and a bass response to cream your pants over. At £220 it is the bargain of the century. You need to get a Pioneer P9 and offboard EQ to come close. K
