  1. Took the Corrado out of the workshop this evening to see what difference the new exhaust makes. All the engine mods aren't properly run in yet,but I couldn't resist giving it some beans around the airport roads to see what it could do. Keeeeeeriiiiist! It pulls like a friggin train and seems to be have the ability to out perform the speedo! It's like the car takes off,but the speedo needle is out round the back having a fly smoke before it realises that it has a job to do. Can't wait now to get it legal and get it properly run in. And then get the FMIC fitted. 8)
  2. Why? What posseses someone to think that looks good? Ooo,I know, I'll buy up the last stock of airfix kits, melt them down and stick the result to the front of my car, mmmm,Looks good and it should attract the girlies...." It might, only if they are blind and have had their hands chopped off.. It reminds me of something in a movie I 've seen, but I can't quite remerber what. It'll come to me,eventually.
  3. Errmm..... Yeah. Forgot to before I took the pics.Hoped no-one would notice.
  4. Not many problems in the fitting(unless you count snapping one of the centre hanger studs ) as I already had the front pipe fitted. It's a TSR 4-1 S/S unit so the whole system is now S/S all the way. Haven't got it out of the workshop yet to find out if there is much of a difference but it does sound good!
  5. Yeah.I know. I don't have a decent photo editor,so I had to resize the pic on crappy MGI photosuite which stretched it.
  6. New Milltek fitted to my G60.....Nearly ready to go back on the road.YAY! Thanks to John(16vG60) for undertaking the task of getting the exhaust to me! :D
  7. No,unfortunately it's not mine.I was looking after my mates car for a while,as he works offshore.Couldn't afford to run it AND my G60,so I have a MK2 Gti runabout instead! Yeah,I'll try that.Didn't think of it at the time....

    Milltec backfire

I have a crappy Bosal system on my Mk2 Golf GTI .tipped off with a Remus back box. I can get it to pop at will and, oh my God,does it pop! Scared about half a dozen people standing at a bus stop the other day,all jumped after I went past, revved it a little and changed down to go round a bend and BANG!! :-P Big grins and good fun.
  9. Yeah, first thing I tried after reading about it on here. Disconnected the whole unit and ran about for an entire day with no music,in a vain attempt to get the spoiler to work!
  10. Here we go again....... Spoiler won't work. Dead. Flat refuses to do anything-won't go either up or down, automatically or manually(on the switch). I have replaced the control unit twice and no joy.Have also checked voltage to the rear and all seems fine, and yes, I have checked the fuse too. I've even changed the entire spoiler motor assembly, and that made no diff,so it has to be somewhere in the wiring. Is there an earth or a connection somewhere up in the roof,as that seems to be where the wiring goes to,that could be a cause of this? I have a wiring diagram from my local VW garage, who said something about a wire sometimes breaking inside the sheath, but not being electrically literate,I can't make head nor tail of it! Any help is appreciated. P.S.as the car is legally off the road,I can't get it to a garage to let the "professionals" look at it. :?
  11. Right,it's been decided. Got in touch with Venom and they said that the Magnex won't fit my car cos it's a 91 and the hangers are different. Magnex do 92 onwards. Then they suggested a Scorpion system at over £100 pound more, which has the boxer tailpipe that I'm keen on(but not by that much! ) So now I think the Milltek system is looking favourable IF it's a good price, because, as I mentioned earlier, the cost of getting it here,as most companies use couriers, which usually work out more expensive than good ol' Royal Mail, can be prohibitive.
  12. Mine is a TSR item, originally for a Golf, but adapted to fit the lambda sensor that the Corrado has. Straight bolt on as the head is the same and is all one unit from the manifold down to the cat-or it has an extra bit of pipe to bypass the cat and fit to the rest of the system. Coullstar,I've already had a Supersprint system which, strangely.let go all along the centre section, but the rear box stayed intact and is still in good condition. I still have it in the garage somewhere too!

    Wheel question

Thinking about putting a new set on the car and I qiute fancy Porsche turbo replicas. As these probably only come with a five stud fitment, can I get adaptors from somewhere to fit them to a G60? Would I be able to fit 18s if I ran an ultra low profile tyre, without having to work the arches, bearing in mind the car has been lowered by around 35mm? If not I'm quite happy to stick to 17s. :)
  14. Thanks for all the advice. :D It looks like Magnex it is then. Just one other thing....Can anyone tell me if the Magnex is a larger bore than oem or what bore size it is? The reason being that I have a 4-1 manifold fitted and I would like to know if the bore on the exhaust will be a match or if it's slightly bigger or smaller. Also because the Jetex system I have at the moment is a bigger bore,so I have a reducer fitted between the mani pipe and the system, which, obviously,I want to get rid of.
  15. Bearing in mind that I live on an island in the stuck between the north Atlantic and the north sea,so therefore have a slight disadvantage when it comes to getting a custom exhaust, who's aftermarket system would you recommend? I've had a Supersprint system, which had a centre pipe turn into a flute, and more recently,a Jetex system which after only 3 years on the car (1 of which has been standing in a workshop) has literaly fallen to bits. So,if I were to go for another aftermarket system, it seems to be down to 2-Milltek or Scorpion. I quite like the look of the Boxer style tailpipe and possibly a S/S system.Any ideas apart from the above two manufacturers? Oh,it's for a 91 G60. And price is kinda important too as they will charge silly money for shipping costs to Orkney. :(
  16. Am I right in thinking that the discs and calipers are a straightforward swap onto a Corrado, with a bit of tweeking to the caliper mountings? I remeber someone saying that a brake hose had to be made up to go between the Seat caliper and the VW brake line,so,if all this is right, does anyone know if theres a kit that I can buy and just bolt straight onto my G60? :?: :? :?:
  17. Damn it! The paint colour and rear lights are near enough to mine that,if I had the money,I would buy it from you and fool enough people into thinking that all the mods were why mine has been off the road for nearly a year! Plus, it would be so far away from you, that you would soon forget about it and start on a new project. Or probably not. :D Thats a bloody nice Corrado and you've certainly put in the hours on it and because of that fact,I reckon that you would be a fool to sell it now-if you go ahead with the 4wd option, then you probably will be glad that you diecided to keep it. Besides, who knows,it may be worth more to those "in the know" after you've done that conversion and may get offered silly money for it! Thats my tuppence worth anyway.
  18. Dunno if anyone else has found these guys,or if this is the right part of the forum to post it in but I thought some of you might be interested in this. http://www.bar-tek-tuning.de Good site with online shop and an english section too. 8)
  19. Yeah,I was on the list but I kinda went on holiday and forgot all about. By the time I came back, and checked, all the deposits had been paid,so I assumed the production run had been snapped up.
  20. After many months of on/off toil,my G60 has actually turned its wheels under it's own power. Timing still isn't bang on as it tends to splutter a bit when warmed up,but having run it around the private roads where I work,I'm impressed with the difference in power and handling it seems to have now compared to when I started this stoopid idea of modding it! Just need to put some final bits of trim back on and it'll be as good as ready for the run to the garage for the MOT and the run on the diagnostic machine to get it set up properly. Hopefully,I'll have the pipework for the FMIC sorted out soon and it's going to be the next job. Along with the toothed belt system that I keep trying to get hold of.  Looking forward to getting on the road legally!

    Cam question

Easy one this. I have the old cam from my G60. And a bog standard GTI 1.8 engine. In theory,it should be a straight-forward swap,as they are basically the same engine,or am I missing a trick here :?: What I wnat to know is, will it work and would I get a power increase?
  22. The old "which is better,G60 or VR6" qeustion has finally been settled by the country's "finest" motoring rag. Quoted from last weeks copy,in an article about living with a legend, featuring the original Cossie, Lancia Delta Integrale,R5 GT Turbo,BMW M3 E30 and of course the Corrado VR6. "Do you fancy a sure-fire modern classic? The Corrado VR6 is a guaranteed collector's item, and if you buy a good one now you won't lose a penny in depreciation. You'll also own possibly the Nineties' greatest affordable coupe. The Corrado arrived in 1989, but it easn't until 1992 that an engine worthy of the fantastic chassis was fitted. The VR6 was a real gem, delivering 190bhp and a 0-60time of 6.4 secs. The thouroughbred engine helped the VW punch above it's weight.Production ceased in 1995,so there aren't many of them to choose from, but the run-out Storm special editions are the most collectable.Only 500 were produced and they can be identified by their leather interior ans six spoke alloy wheels.Prices start at £3,000 for early models and for that you get the usual VW reliability.Don't be tempted by the supercharged four cylinder G60-it's a totally different and vastly inferior beast." Bad experience with a G60 maybe?
  23. Sure it wasn't Mystic Blue  Not sure mate.Looked black to me. Haven't seen a Mystic blue Corrado so wouldn't know.Could have bought the badges and stuck them on I suppose.... It did have 5 spoke alloys, which looked like the original VW ones(Estorils?Sebrings?Help me out here!) :?
  24. Black VR6 storm.M***WWU. YAY!Finally managed to put up a "spotted" that maybe someone else knows of or has seen. Spotted in carpark in Kirkwall,Orkney today. Not a local car and probably not someone on here. :( Rare enough to find a holidaymaker driving all the way here in thier C here, let alone a Storm! 8) Sadly,I wasn't in my G60,but the trusty old white Mk2 GTI.

    Overfuelling on idle?

Damn, thats what I was afraid of.No-one here does that.I would have to drive to Star performance in Glenrothes,as they would be the nearest I think.(400 odd miles :( ),and they fitted the Jabbasport chip when I had the charger done. Oh,I dunno. It was a "slap it together and see if it works!" kind of attitude.I still have the original cast manifold that was also matched to the head and could refit that with a cat-bypass pipe if that would make a difference. Would this cause any difficulties in day to day driving until I got the car somewhere for a remap?
