Have you fitted a couple of HT leads on the wrong cylinders or something? Engine shaking is a bad misfire. A tooth out on the timing doesn't do that.
Totally agree with this, I work for a company that make harnesses for motorsports and we always crimp the wires (similar to those that Kev has linked to)Glad you put this Kev, as last time I said that I got shouted down :(
I don't think I noticed that, otherwise you would have go my support! :)

He obviously doesn't realise the Golf VR6 Highline has the same paint and wheels as a Corrado Storm. Rare indeed.

Can't see the pics, assuming it's the release fork that's bent or cracked? Very common. Even worse if you use an uprated clutch. I had mine upgraded by Vince the last time my 02A came off, which basically entailed welding a plate on the other side. Makes it into a box section piece. Worked a treat.

I have a Karmann interior in mine!I had a First Aid kit and triangle.

Late 20s to mid 30s is the best you can expect from any modern hot hatch, regardless of make and spec, when driven normally.
All these horseschit 40mpg claims for a MK7 GTI are just that.
-
my mates got a 2008 st3 mapped, intercooler and exhaust he reckons gets 30mpg around town.i love the leather in the st3,not bothered about rear seats.Hmmmm, I really do doubt that. Standard MK5 GTIs average 33ish mpg with it's 500cc smaller engine and direct injection. That old Volvo lump (and it is old by modern standards) likes a drink. There are always tonnes of STs for sale where I live, mainly because of their big thirst. You don't buy a car like that for economy anyway! Nothing really wrong with STs but I've never been drawn to them for some reason.

Superb, love it!
I put my VR6 on a weighbridge many moons ago, out of curiousity, and it weighed a few more kilos than a MK5 GTI (1336kg). Full road trim, full tank, 17" wheels etc. They are heavy cars!

All VR6s / 24Vs do that

I've yet to see any VAG forced induction engine that doesn't fill it's intake path with oil! It's just how they roll, lol.
If you suspect the bores, why not try a compression test? Or better still, a leak down test if you have access to workshop air?
-
Sounds like a massive air leak to me

All these VRT's that are appearing.... it's going to be bad for my health and bank balance soon! You keep saying that. Get about it already!

"Black Full leather interior, Sports seats, Leather seats....."
Are all car dealers thick as sh1t or something?
-
Are they obsolete then?

VW call it a "Dashpot".

Cheers gents. Get the feeling putting it back in will be interesting but so far so good. If I get a chance I'll do more in the evenings as well.Anyone recommend any particular loom wrap? I might as well tidy it up if I can. May also try to fix a couple of rattles if anyone recommends some adhesive foam?
My tried and trusted anti rattle and sound deadening weapons are dealer loom tape, john lewis self adhesive felt (on a roll) and foam stuff from this place - http://www.efoam.co.uk/acoustic.html

Just read the second bit about faffing around behind the garage. Seems quite normal to me also! Nothing out of the ordinary with these cars!
-
Ah - the symptom I'm referring to is when you first start the car, usually after it's been left long enough for the engine to be stone cold, is that when it bursts to life (usually with very little cranking I should add.. always starts quickly and first time) sometimes it shoots up to like 1500-2000RPM then comes back down to the normal level of about 1,000RPM - then settles down the normal level (650RPM) after only a minute or two of warming up.Perfectly normal.
You have "Car hypochondria" :D
