  1. Ditto But if you're going for a quick fix until you see the Laser guys, do as Wort says. Im sure he means the bolts in this picture, labeled 'A' HERE. From the pic you can see one bolt, but there is a second lower down too. Slacken both off (with car in air) and you'll see there is movement - adjust accordingly - but its a minute job. Hence its so important to get Laser alignment.
  2. bushes a pain, as said. Camber/tracking etc, to be done by laser alignment in garage (not like Kwikfit). Suspension - look in the Wiki HERE CLICK. Go to the Drivetrain section and there is a How To in there. It might mention taking the spring off, but if you're buying Adjustable Coilovers (compared to normal coil spring, over shock seperates), then they go in as an all in one unit. So, therefore, if you can do it, any garage can too. As for tools, spanners, torque wrench, possibly box spanner and allen key for top mount, socket set, and spring compressors if going for normal-decent setup. Car jack and stands. Be ideal if you found someone local off here to come help/watch/guide. Asking these questions, Im not sure you've got the gist of what adjustable coilovers are best for; not sure what you're looking to buy and achieve. Stock VW shock plus spring will do fine. Many people here lower the car, starting with 40mm. For this you need a lower spring, sports, and then a sports shock. This gives a stiffer/firmer ride, but hopefully better road holding and looks. A pair of new wishbone with bushes will take some of the loose slack out too.
  3. possibly yes. But try the cheap stuff first. Have you changed the brake pads/discs recently? If not, then maybe you've got some airated fluid in there - DOT4 - cheap to replace. Then bleed the system, knowing you've got no air in there. Read this thread for ideas. Further tips. And the ABS pump.
  4. the gsf ones are stupidly tight. You'd have noticed the high spots, lines, which I chose to take off. Rather than file the plastic anymore, I then looked at the hole on the car that takes the sensor. Was terribly rusty, so I used heavy emery paper on it. Then I squoze the little booger in; certainly not hitting it. Fairly rubbish yes, but made mine pass the MOT.
  5. See wiki for standard offset for VR, says 43. There is a sticky thread for working out offset. In theory you're loosing 12mm, and thus getting closers to the inner arch, suspension legs etc, hence someone said you'd need spacers. You know how small 12mm is right? ... Be surprised if they did foul. As for clipping your brake calipers, this should not be a problem with a 16" wheel. They'd only foul if the spoke of the wheel were seriously inverted. They're not on a scooby from memory. The killer is the centre hole as he says.
  6. ask about; even go to the courier outlet/collection. Parcel Force gave me all sorts of gumf about not sending anything over 2m, and a splitter was too long. UPS were fine about the splitter. The bonnet - its the weight thats maybe an issue. They expect the thing fully wrapped up too. You need a mate with a van.
  7. wow, what a head scratcher, I'm remembering back to 3 years ago. I had late ones too, and yes they come in two parts. Had real trouble getting old out out and new one in, of actual sensors. As for cable, yes it was plug and play. However, Im sure mine came in one kit off GSF. It's just a case of ring around to see if anyone sells as seperates? Or, look for someone breaking a car - as replacing the wire is so easy. I'd not put an old sensor in though - too much trouble.
  8. if you're tight like me, yu can make one. Used a box spanner and cut back, leaving two dimples - was pure luck I had the correct diameter. You've got to press as you wind back. The windback tool does the job for you and is much easier - looks a bit like the one below; ask in the shop. If its really stiff, you might suspect a seal.
  9. ahh, you failed to mention the old-fart syndrome, lol Well, most of us like the 16's and I hope you do too; they will appear to fill the arches better, while allowing a higher ride height. However, be aware that the side wall will be a 45, meaning stiffer than a 50, meaning you'll get more 'feel' - or in old fart terms, it feels bumpy, lol. Nice IMO. Tweeking adjustables can be tricky. Too stiff a rebound on the shock and what happens is that, whilst the spring took the initial bump of an undulation in the road, its not yet fully recoiled to the top and you're already hitting the second bump - now with half the spring travel and Bang, you hit the stop. Back the shock off too much and it'll wallow about like jelly - although I'd think you could'nt get a jelly setting on a sports shock. So yeh, lift it - it will do wonders ! ps - tyre pressures. Entyrely your choice. But I found on a 15 rim, I needed quite high pressures to sustain stability, so ran at about 38psi front, maybe 36. Whereas on 17's I found 30 was much better.
  10. didnt read your 'other' thread. What you're talking about is real old stuff; Im talking storage for a year at most. For bike and car, im looking for the latest in tyre technology, as its an ever moving goal. If kwikfit sold you 8yr old tyres, Id demand a refund and tell them to pootle off and take heed of what most people say, dont go near them.
  11. Bought your tyres yet Kris? If you're lucky you'll get some late made F1's - they're good and last a tiny bit longer than Toyos in my experience. Both a cheap in comparison to say Michelin. They're also both darn sticky and hence wear so quick. I destroyed some Toyos in 5k too on a 2.0L, but camber was setup wrong. What about the toe? Does the VR not have a little bit of torque steer issue? Have they toed them in to compensate? I dont like people fettling with setups if I know Im getting correct tyre wear - kwikfit dont even register on my radar! You also say it pulls to the left, is that not a combination of torque steer and road camber? If you went bald on the outer edge and only had say 2mm left in the middle; all that happened in 5k on a VR.... I'd be happy. But if the handling has gone to pot, even on fresh rubber, then I'd get miffed.
  12. Who doesnt rip through a set each every couple years? And even then, if I went round to the rear, to do a swap front/rear, I always check the sidewalls for hints of cracking - which there never is. Someone already said it, if they're old(ish) you just need to ensure they're stored correctly (out of sunlight).
  13. He's right yu know; too low will probably cause problems with the drive shaft too; not meant to be driven there (low) all the time.
  14. Simple few things to think of: You could get a softer shock into there, but on that low ride height you might find it simply rebounds too quickly. A softer spring, might feel nice, until you find it bottoms out and goes bang! Basically, if you're low, I bet theres very little chance you can soften the ride with the spring or shock. You either need to lift the car up, to allow more travel, or look to other items. Personally I'd lift the car, IMHO the car looks too low and go for a small 35mm or 40mm drop. However, other items could be: - have you considered replacing rubber bushes? Dont go for sporty ones, get original VAG. - Wheels, unfortunately, you've already got one of the softest setups there, as the big fat (profile) should soak up the bumps (compared to a skinny 40 profile in 17's). The only alternative here, is if you're running an expensive tyre like Michelin that has a stiff side wall, and replace with a cheaper, soft side wall tyre, like Uniroyal Rainsport. - then lastly, try to drive slower or avoid pot holes. As for nbumps, the 15's should soak some of it up.
  15. Yeh, but I think supercharged is saying a proper job would mean taking more stuff off. For instance, taking the grille out would help do the wing properly, and go to the inner side; therefore avoiding leaving a seam-mark on the front edge of the wing where the paint will stop (if you dont take grille off). At least they've take the mirrors off. Taking the window trim might be ideal, but you might find the old shrunken rubber might not go back as planned.
  16. Hose Clip, Hose Clamp, someone will get what you mean. Doesnt need to be car either; just ensure its the same size. Make sure you can undo-it fully so it becomes an open clip, thus allowing you to place over the shaft, and then re-adjust to become a full-circle clip. For a temporary measure you could use a cable-tie; but only temporary. The metal clips are very strong and allow gentle tightening. The correct metal clip will be no wider than the groove in the rubber boot. Throw some grease back into the joint before sealing up; the boot should push back a bit.
  17. Not only do Nissan and BMW get bad press...
  18. NSFW Not a Turbo [Time] [0:00] Sir, we have finished the work on your VR6 Storm. It will be transported overnight from here. We test drove it in this area. We had to buy new tyres – Toyo Proxes T1 R’s. [0:16] T1 R’s, T1 S’s, they’re all the same to me. [0:21] Fuhrer … You see… [0:31] We installed a Borg Warner twin turbo to your VR. [followed by the long silence] [0:50] All turbo loving Scooby owners get out, leave. NOW! [1:10] You installed what? Are you retards totally focking stupid? Did I say Pimp My Ride? [just as it pans over crowd] This is supposed to be a future classic, no? Its one of 500. It was born to breath naturally. You didn’t even buy a Garrett, you penny pinching ba***ds. [1:37] It was not our fault Fuhrer, we thought you wanted more power. [1:38] F*** power. Fuck Clarkson. You butchers!! [1:42] But Fuhrer, you will blow away Civic-Rs from the lights. [1:45] I’ll blow something off in a minute… Your head… You’ve stuck this sh*t on my car – do I look like Cheeswire? Or whatever his f*cking name is. You could go the whole hog and buy a body kit. Powerflow exhaust. Borbets. Why not spray it nugget yellow? That’d really make it a f*cking classic… [upto 2:17]. [2:21] It already gave 190bhp. Already saw off bits of rice. My baby, what have they done. [2:34] Buy it a new door handle or refurb the spoiler mechanism; uprate to Brembos – something subtle! But no, now my car wheezes like an asthmatic Scooby – …the disgrace. [2:50] I bet Laura made you do this, huh; I’ll p!ss in her petrol-tank!!! [2:57] He doesn’t mean it; I’ll protect you. [3:07] We could take the turbo off [3:11] Don’t bother – your slimy pimp hands have done their work. Turbos, spinners, Spax springs… Bunch of monkeys…!
  19. NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW NSFW What lunchtimes were made for.... Lost Corrado Hitler scene [Time] [0:00] Sir, Jim confirmed your VR6 Corrado Storm is now sold. He came from Berlin and drove this way. The problem is he only paid €2,000 and drove off! I don’t think we can find him. [0:16] Ok, it doesn’t matter; it’s gone to a good home. [0:21] Fuhrer … you see… [0:31] He was wearing Burberry. We think he was a Chav. [followed by the long silence] [0:50] Everyone who knows or is related to a chav, get out, piss off. NOW! [1:10] You sold it to who? A snivelling chav? An inbred botty boy who rides his sister. [just as it pans over crowd] Do I look like a fuck*ing cockney? You could’ve sold it on the forum. Given it to a real car enthusiast. That’s why we have the forum, to avoid cockups like this. [1:37] It was not our fault Fuhrer, he hid his gold-chains. [1:38] Fuck his cap. Fuck his earrings. You blind idiot!! [1:42] But Fuhrer, he test drove it quickly. [1:45] You Nova loving idiot, you know what’ll happen now? You retards! Any arsehole can redline a car. Revving the tits off it until it explodes! He’s going to stick a dump valve on it and homemade induction kit. He’ll debadge it. Remove the active spoiler for a Custom. He’ll buy his parts from Halfords… [upto 2:17]. [2:21] I loved that car. A beautiful V6 engine. A real mans car. [2:34] You could’ve sold to a twat off piston heads. Atleast those idiots would just sell it 6 months later. But no, you halfwits sell it to a little bitch –- the disgrace. [2:50] It’s as bad as selling it to a woman; she’d burn the clutch out of it and crash it. [2:57] He doesn’t mean it; you mustn’t cry. [3:07] We could try and get it back [3:11] Don’t bother – it’ll be covered in neons by now. Really fuck*ed! Chrome spinning fuck*ing wheels… Find him, take it back and make sure nobody knows it’s a Storm. The forum mustn’t find-out. :hitler:
  20. TOTALLY NSFW More of the same, on different topics; theres Hitlers BMW, and if you watch to the end, you can pick out the Churchill's taken Hitlers Big Mac. [youtube:ssrr04h8] [/youtube:ssrr04h8] [youtube:ssrr04h8] [/youtube:ssrr04h8]
  21. ;) eye Oh, real easy then. A battered M3... oh yeh, it looks like a BMW sorry, and yu might deal drugs, lol. Looks - totally a personal pref As fast - doable today Less rattles - easy to a point Nice over Bumps - got to be modern then. Forget the S2000 and Z4, lol. Civic maybe ok; Fiat does a fine job on its standard 16's. Leather - kinda easy (Fiat does it) A/C - Fiat 20vT does it Decent Boot - like mafia body storage large? The TT is dreadful. Fiat is ok (fits a keg). S2000 - a what? Civic - its a hatch, and the least I'd expect is room when loosing coupe-ness. Same MPG - go modern. Even the Z4 3.0 does 30mpg about town. The Fiat puny 2.0, is ok... honest (no worse than a G60) Not more expensive to run - easy, just avoid stealers of BMW's, Merc etc. Not sure about Honda parts. Size - well the Corrado is very slim. As for length; whats the worry? Civic is very girl/parking friendly (except large rear pillars). TT is a doddle IMO, but wider. Sit in a TT, then a Fiat and spot the difference; build quality in the cabin there is none. One will be an older car (S reg etc) and therefore loose, whereas the other is far slower (on your budget).
  22. Agreed, and I had this dilema before; its not an easy fix. Most of those are as old as your C, and dont see why you wouldn't just look for another C. Yes you've spent a lot on yours, but I'd be mostly tempted to rip off everything expensive before your original went for scrap - the scrappy wouldn't pay you extra because it has a SS exhaust on it; take the stuff, its yours. The only improvement there, in terms of reliability and modern safety is the Civic R. No brainer. The Alfa is prone to going wrong. The Fiat is fine and is down to luck if it goes bad; its far quicker than a standard G60 and a touch quicker than a VR. The Fiat 5 cylinders also sound beautiful !!! (the belt change can be done in-situ, specialist guy in B'ham does for half the price). Wish I'd bought one 2 years ago when I saw it with 32k miles for £3k. There arent too many electrical to go wrong. The one I know of drinks oil, but is always clean because of it, lol.Lots less small niggles than most cars of its age; yeh the rear calipers cease on, so fix it. (oh, btw, ins group 20) How about a girly 1.8 TT? Just bear in mind the cheaper/older ones will start becoming as loose as your Corrado. If money were no object, then the conversation becomes silly. As for intermediate ranges, like 3.2 TT's, S2000, Z4M's etc, tricky call. Love the Z4 coupe looks, hate the electric steering. S2000 is incredibly loud, and needs to be revved, and is an A&E waiting to happen if you get the pre-06 non-esp. The TT does it all. A 350z sounds nice, but has no boot and is a bit bulky IMO. Hmm, a common M3? Blurr. You're also mixing hatches with coupes... :nono:
  23. Nice rear, shame about the face (sounds familiar) 307 meets TT/R8 :gag:
  24. pic 1 - steerings gone a bit light pic 7 - think I swallowed a fly pic 8 - whats for dinner pic 9 - rollox, whats this black wall thingy, time to turn pic 11 - time to close my eyes pic 26 - weeeee! pic 31 - time for another go pic 32 - think it'll buff out?
