What is the full name of the semi-synthetic VW oil for a VR6
Supercharged replied to matth76's topic in Engine Bay
It retails at about £15.99 i think but the last lot i bought was about £6.50 - depends on what sort of discount yer dealer gives you! -
But VW only sell G 002 000 which supercedes anything else...

What engine is this Roger?
-
Have you definetly checked BOTH the fuses? As you have changed the contol box i'd be looking at the wiring to the box especially the speed sensor signal...
-
Try pressing it on with a screwdriver t make sure the connection is good but I reckon you have a fauly lead there... not uncommon at all, Kevhaywire had to buy about 5 sets when he first bought his VR to get a set where every lead was ok...
-
H8RRA, you just need the late MK3 VR hoses... either standard or braided to match whatever else you have, TT hoses are too long.
-
Your correct, C&R seem to be cheapest but you can buy the hoses seperatly directly from Goodridge... Fronts are late Golf VR6 - SVW0604-2FP Rear Conversion hoses - SVW0506-2P The mid ones I don't have a part number for but I was quoted £25+vat... You also have a choice of Zinc or Stainless with each of the above... Before you fit the 288's make sure the banjo bolts fit as there are 2 different thread types (not sure if this is the difference between mk3 and mk4 or not - Dinkus may know...)
-
You'd leave it in hybernation I would have thought...

Mk 5 are 112 PCD....

????

Yep, you need to use a solid bar now!
-
It's the black one, take the plug off and measure resistance across the pins, if you get no reading then it's duff, may as well change the blue one as well if so as it will most likely be the same age and that one is critical for the car to run properly.
-
It's fairly mint to be honest, only goes out a couple of times a week...
-
It only needs to beon for US models (thats why it states it in the Bentley)
-
It's on the other side of the head... manifold off I think...
-
They may not have done, and as you've had 2 changed there may be some extra tension there, I'd drive it for a bit, if it's still noticable it may be worth just slackening the bolts, let it idle for a bit then torque them back down again...
-
Yip, the belt drives the inlet cam then that in turn drives the exhaust cam via the chain...
-
That includes cam belt, the parts for that are £75 alone plus another £100 on servicing items...
-
...I'm afraid he's already started writing the ticket out...
-
..she was a munter tho...

Johnboy98, a bit of respect would be nice, Tom doesn't get paid for moderating this forum! All we are doing is looking after members best interests, many of us surf the forum at work, I hotdesk in large open plan offices and I don't want people wondering what i'm looking at on the net if they happen to glance across or walk past.

May be worth checking how they installed them - did they let the engine run and settle then torque the bolts up?
