If it is the drivers side (on a RHD) then I'd check the bearings first... You'd normally hear a blowing exhaust at idle... wheel bearings make a kind of hum/drone when they are worn... jack it up, check for play and see if you can hear anything when it spins, if still not sure then compare with opposite side...

How much are they? As the sump itself is baffled do you just use a standard gasket with it (not the windage tray thing)?

Hmmm - there is a microswitch on each side of the linkage but not sure how they are triggered...

Ok, How long does it take to go up and down, it should be about 4 secs each way... There is a thermoswitch in the drive motor that switches it off if it starts to overheat.

Don't use Spunk on the car itself, it stinks... far better products on the market!

Thats the temp sender housing I think... If you buy it make sure you get all new clips, seals, bolts etc with it...

I've got an ECP recon in my TDi and it feels ok (I say ok as there is a slight amount of play but I'm fairly sure that is my 200k old column) There is some interesting reading in the Bentley manual about racks and setting up using the preload adjustment... maybe they are just getting old and need adjusting/setting up properly... -
AlexDUB, Welcome to the forum!! The main difference is the US is 2.8 and the Euro is 2.9, the US also has a couple of extra sensors for the stricter emissions controls
