  1. The fluid level is steady and pedal operates as normal both on depression and release. Very much looking like it isn't a hydraulic issue. Looked through the history for the car and no evidence that it has been changed and the history is comprehensive so have to believe its 165k old.
  2. Great reply and details thank you.. Does the fact the clutch appears to be engaged now all the time highlight the clutch itself failing? When i started the car (in gear clutch down/in gear) the car stalled but not aggressively, it is like it is partially engaged... And if i buy a clutch do i get the pressure plate, assembly and release bearing as a kit?
  3. More info.. Clutch pedal operates and feels completely normal. Started car in gear and was able to select other gears (didn't move or pull out the clutch) After that selected a gear and started the car (clutch in) and the car stalled. This to me means the clutch is now engaged regardless of what i do with the pedal.. So, any more ideas? I feel the gearbox will be coming off and in the interest of ordering parts to avoid the 'i need the bit i haven't got' what should i be looking at ordering. Id rather play it safe and order too much and take back if not needed...
  4. don't be daft mate, all contributions are appreciated...
  5. Its hydraulic.. I will be back with the car a little later so should know a bit more then..
  6. Im talking its impossible to select a gear.. How do you diagnose the fork problem? Is that a gearbox job off?
  7. So today the ultra reliable 8v has developed a problem. Nothing unusual about the car, restarted my journey, selected first pulled away, unable to get 2nd, went into third then can't get 4th, no unable to select any gear when the engine is running. If the car is switched off i can select gears either via the shift of the tower on the gearbox itself. Can start the car in gear but doesn't sound quite right although not terribly bad. Clutch pedal operates normally. Any clues? Is it as straight forward as saying it needs a clutch or is there something else it could be? If I'm taking the gearbox off should i be doing anything else while I'm in there? Best place for parts?
  8. I did the transaction on a card although the transaction hasn't shown up yet.
  9. Just for clarity i have done the banjo business for Easypops, no sniping..
  10. They are changing hands for mega money.... Im sure you do miss yours Steve, was a great car.. 12 months MOT on the old girl today and the first run out for months, loved every minute...
  11. Check it and if it is mint i could well be interested..
  12. Im very keen to use as many 'real' parts rather than painting everything. The sunroof switch is a genuine VW item. The panel has been trimmed professionally using a 4 way stretch vinyl. The visors i have are Mk3 Colour concept but the mounting points need changed over. Intention is spray a spare headlining and see if a quality finish can be achieved which i think it can be. Like Jim says there are good fabric paints available. I am a fan of black headlinings, the Mk4 Golf Anniversary GTIs were black (only car in the Mk4 range) and the difference between that and the grey is great..
  13. Lots of talk about black headlining which I'm very much liking the idea of.. Going to do it in stages so have the black light and have had a spare sunroof motor panel trimmed to a perfect match for the texture of the pillar trims.. Next up is some visors that need some minor tweaking.. Hoping to have the car out for the weekend.. I hope the weather isn't listening..
  14. The car has some of the most individual and quality touches around so would be a shame if it has to go... Best of luck with whatever route you take..
  15. Common failure and obsolete since last year I believe. I'm sure it is worth while if you can come up with something that isn't as fragile as the original.
  16. Im not sure.. Im going to be down in Pompey for a few months and the car will be up north so might not be that easy to get to any..
  17. Finally, all the work underneath is now finished. Just need to replace the front end brake lines and then the car will leave the garage for the first time in months.. The daily Corrado had a new windscreen fitted yesterday, not an enjoyable experience but fortunately one of the guys who was doing the job had done 4 Corrados before so knew what he was doing.. Pleasantly surprised by the condition of the metal work, all nice and solid and was able to clean it up further and seal it before the new screen went in..
  18. Couple more pictures from recent progress.. Exhaust now on with new VW clamps. The centre box has been polished. I had a centre pipe made up from Stainless by the guys at Pipewerx. Can strongly recommend them, quick tidy work that didn't break the bank.. Bearings are now in the rear discs and they will be going on today..

I can help with the fuse box cover and electric mirror switch
  20. I had this happen to me on a VR, battery voltage fell with no warning light coming on.. If i revved it over 3k (ish) battery voltage would come back up to running values (as per VDO gauges in the car). I changed the LED in the clocks and it was fine ever since.. I thought that would be too easy a fix but it can't be a coincidence..
  21. I think what Jim means is are the black lights commonly available?
