The right one or the correct one??? I would certainly be interested in a new one, made do with one from a door I bought on eBay when I couldn’t get one to finish the car after paint. I do however struggle to see why the RHS has been available for so long but not the LHS, as mentioned above, you’ll likely go through a world of pain getting a good replica just for Classic Parts to wade in with genuine ones!

Have Stealth do a healthcheck and give you recommendations first, you can then make the call on what you do and don’t have done at this stage unless you’ve got really deep pockets. It can get expensive just pouring money in if you’re not doing things yourself and often sours the experience of ownership. Bottom arm front bushes, Powerflex whereas the rear bushes are best being the R32 ones. Rear beam, ARB and all top mounts are fine using standard original. Uprating the engine mounts will make a difference too.

It's always worth giving them a new lease of life as they really are great cars, although whether or not you will ever recoup the investment if that is what you're after is not so certain! Corrados have been under priced for a long time now, I'm sure we contribute to that as whenever one is for sale for strong money, people here will suggest that it is not worth that money. I've spent countless thousands on mine recently getting it back on the road (countless because I daren't add it up!) but know it's still not perfect and is still only in the 6 to 8K range if I were to try selling, which after all I never would. Home truths; you bought it from a dealer who has to make his living and are considering selling privately, plus I don't believe you've had it all that long so would suggest that it's probably worth less than you paid as a trade purchase unless you really had the guy's arm off. Anything you have invested making it UK road legal is more or less irrelevant now, that adds little to somebody buying a UK car. The mileage, service book stamps and sound condition are in its favour if you make it immaculate but if you don't, then it's still a scruffy, if sound, car and considering they're all twenty plus years old now, people will look for condition rather than simply miles. You can pick up a slam panel and a grill on eBay, I believe I saw more than one of each yesterday, and then spend some money getting the body issues sorted out and some paint which would then improve the value although not necessarily by the amount that you put in as it rarely does. They do seem to be gradually strengthening in price so sitting on it for some time and slowly improving things could pay long term dividends but you should be realistic as to what those might be, it's not a Porsche or Ferrari after all.

Looks like I missed it, no longer available!

It always looks like there’s nothing much inside it, it falls to pieces every time I take it out after all! I’ll go in there with my multimeter and see if I can figure it out then. Cheers

As title, mine seems to work for a day and then give up the ghost. Would like to try another one and see if that fixes it.

Watched our two daughters drive off in it yesterday evening, the eldest is getting married today and I loaned it to her as they were staying at the venue last night. Brave move but this has been a big driver in getting it back on the road this year and got a call to say they’d arrived in one piece!

Possibly the other way round as mine was sitting in our stores at work a couple of weeks as I was offshore. Although when I phoned they said they were waiting on an exchange one coming back in so I might get my own back. Spot on, whatever!

I think they do whatever needs doing. Mine wasn’t leaking, it felt lumpy when you turned the wheel, almost like there was a damaged tooth on the pinion. Feels smooth now, only done about forty miles so time will tell but it’s a world different so far. Forgot to write in the original post, guy I spoke to there was called Chris, couldn’t have been more helpful.

No new photos but I think that I’ll leave it alone for a while now and just drive it! Car passed its MOT but the steering rack wasn’t right. Considered fitting another eBay one but decided to get current one refurbished and so far it seems to have been a good call. Went to get the a/c regassed today but it blew a seal so need to look at that, possibly later in the week, but for the moment just enjoying having it on the road again!

Had my steering rack refurbished by http://www.powerracksdirect.co.uk/ Excellent service, called them Monday, rack collected from my work by their courier on the Tuesday and back in our stores by the following Monday. Rack refurbished, new steering arms and lock nuts, new clips on the gaiters and a fresh coat of paint. Chris kept me informed of progress all along. £205 +VAT all in. Fitted today and feeling so much better than the clunky thing I sent away!

I realised over the weekend that I needed a power steering return pipe and sent Richard an email through his website http://powersteeringstore.co.uk/ asking if he had them in stock. He replied Sunday, said he’d go in early Monday morning to make one for me and was then concerned that the paint hadn’t dried on it when I arrived to collect! First class service from somebody willing to go the extra mile, he’s in the Coventry area but I didn’t mind the three hour round trip to get my car fixed, give him a try if you ever need power steering pipes.

Kev Bacon wrote a thread a long time ago, best mods for small money, or something along those lines, which listed Dave16v short shift (reduces the excessive front to back throw) and centre console fixing bracket (another usual Corrado creaky part!) is Dave still making these even? Lupo / Mk1TT wipers, 288 front brakes (the biggest brakes you’ll get under standard wheels), Mk4 rear callipers and OBD2 engine management. I think he also suggested re-bushing the front arms with Powerflex front bushes and OEM R32 rear bushes. There may have been others but I’m not quite sure! I’ve done all the above, I’m also running climatronic from a Passat VR6 although I’ve modified that recently with a Mk4 Golf condenser which hasn’t yet been recharged so the jury remains out on current status. Plus of course the leather recaro interior you’re hankering after, remember they don’t generally have a/c fitted and in the current weather the interiors can be pretty sticky with leather! Plus an assortment of other renewed items too numerous to list! I’d be making sure it’s all structurally sound, even a low mileage car is getting old now, make sure everything underneath is rot free. Consider condition of all bushes, the rear beam ones can be a pig to do so are often the original ones still in there! Brake and fuel lines, again, they could be pretty old now. Brake bias valve functionality. After that, modify cautiously, they’re a car that doesn’t need much modification to stand out as they’ve always been pretty special. We’ve had two of them, continuous ownership for 23 years! And I can honestly say that they’ve been really reliable cars, none of all the regular failings, the sunroof has always worked along with the rear spoiler, door handles, handbrake etc, yet a mate at work had all the standard faults within a few weeks of each other.

I believe the bases were Corrado specific. Lots of other Recaros sit too high when fitted in a Corrado too. I waited two years to find a pair of recaros in grey leather to match my interior and then had to pay £600 for them. Ten years on and I’ve had the complete interior retrimmed in new grey leather.......sumptuous!!!

I can measure mine later in the week if nobody else has opportunity, offshore at the moment though.

They look fine to me, viewing website, not Tapatalk on iPhone. -
Thanks, it was my looking at Bentley and ETKA made me think mine were the wrong way around, expensive mistake, £240 for rack refurbish plus €329 for the broken pipe from Classic Parts. Explains why I’m trying to make sure this time! I’d just like to see either photos or some say they’ve traced the pipes before I tighten them up and start the engine.

Cheers Chris, I’m offshore Monday so I’ll not be putting it back together until the week after now but then it’ll be all panic as I need the car for my daughter’s wedding a few days after that!
-
Nobody? Must be someone has done a steering rack or can trace the pipe run from rack to pump just to confirm!
-
Very impressed :thumbleft:

Could somebody please confirm the connections on the VR6 power steering rack for me. While my car was in pieces the rack was off for ages, I have a nasty suspicion that I somehow managed to get the pipes crossed when it went back together.........explaining why the steering didn't feel particularly power assisted and was lumpy turning. It got worse when I removed the rack and one of the pipes (the long and expensive one) got all twisted and broke but I'm not bitter! The money is spent and the new bits are here but I need to be 100% sure which pipe connects to which tapping on the rack, I believe it as the markings on the photo below of a spare rack I have. Note, mine was connected in the opposite way to the markings on the photo.

Ordered one from Classic Parts, just hoping it gets delivered in time now!

Thanks for the reply, this is the one I need, I'll check the VIN but as mine was at the back end of production in May 95 it generally falls into the latter numbers! I sent annavr6 a PM last night to see if I can buy it through Heritage or if I have to go direct to Classic Parts, I need the car for our daughters wedding the middle of next month so no time to lose getting in bought and delivered. Cheers
