Is it really six and a half years since I updated my gallery? On top of that, the last MOT it had was in Jan 2008 with 124K miles on the clock and it now has 130K so I've managed to reduce the yearly average a fair bit in that time. Yesterday I finally got it out of the garage again for the first time since about September 2008. In that time it has mainly sat on axle stands under a cover doing nothing with an occasional burst of activity. We have gone to OBD2, rebuilt everything under the car with shot blasting and powder coating for good measure, all new bushes, bearings etc have been added. Front brakes are 288s now, rears are standard, something I should tackle soon with Mk4 callipers. There's a new steering rack in there although I'm not yet convinced it's a good one, time will tell. It needed a new fuel pump to convince it to start after a service and rattled like a bag of spanners when it first fired up but that's understandable as it hadn't run in a couple of years. I've ditched the Passat a/c condenser in favour of one from a Mk4 Golf, it fits much better than it's predecessor, just need to get new a/c pipes made as the two ends of the system are from different VW generations I also sold a few bits, gone are the InPro angel eyes, Borbet C's and Schrick manifold, the 268 cams remain although I've yet to drive any further than the end of the drive with OBD2 to see how they feel together. From a distance it still looks quite tidy and shines up well with some polish. Close up though is a different story, worst bits are below, scuttle, tailgate, the usual suspects. The bottom corners of the wings are a little scruffy too as is the front of the driver's side sill. So this afternoon it's going to the body shop for a full glass out paint job, no time limit, it comes back when it's finished. In the meantime the interior is sat in the spare bedroom ready to go to MJ Interiors in Shipley for a re-trim. Hopefully this time next year we'll be back on the road, updates to follow once the bodywork starts. How major can a cooling issue be, there's a radiator, a few hoses and a couple of pumps? Be a shame to break a car if it's repairable.

Looked at a few at Stanford Hall today, mainly with wipers still in evidence, a few with bungs and one with a full delete, welded up and smoothed..........that's the way I'm going. My wife's daily driver is a Mk2 TT and that doesn't have a rear wiper, my own daily "driver" is a bike for most of the year and a Freelander when the roads are white so the Corrado is not going to get used in the rain all that often. Plenty of rainex and it'll be fine!

We bought this Corrado in September 2000 to replace the valver we'd had for five years, no plans to ever sell it, in fact our oldest daughter refers to it as her inheritance!

I like your thinking Michael, I can always get another tailgate can't I. Looking forward to getting it back on the road now, lost the love for a while and it sat on stands in the garage for a few years......bit of a luxury being able to shut it away! Don't think it will ever be in the same league as yours but I'll keep chipping away at it, new paint starts Tuesday, seats and door cards are ready to go to MJ once I have an idea when the paint will be complete. Got a long shopping list developing for stuff from VW Heritage. But for today it's time we got the bike out and headed of to Stanford Hall, seek some inspiration!

It's going isn't it, I just need the confidence to do it! I didn't notice until I had the wiper, spoiler and everything removed that there is a raised area around the wiper.....so if it goes then it's for good as we'll be reshaping the area to match the rest of the tailgate, no rubber bungs, it stays or it goes, no turning back!!!
-
The C goes into the body shop on Tuesday for a full glass and interior out paint job. There are already a few bits need repairing, wings, A pillars, tailgate, fuel cap.....all the usual culprits in other words. I'm also having an American style centre brake light fitted, not everyone's taste but I'm hoping it will be possible to "sink it in" a little so it doesn't stand so proud. Question is, do I or don't I delete the rear wiper? We have a MkII TT which doesn't have one so why does the Corrado need one......I'm just not sure that I won't regret having the hole welded up once it's gone!!! What does everyone think about rear wipers, stay true to the original design and suffer an ugly rear appendage or clean it up and be damned?

I was following this at first but at £65 plus post for a pair of spacer plates plus two old disks I'd not use, it has gone beyond what I was willing to pay! Need some info on what part nos. and I might order them from TPS.

One of the bosses at work had his AMG run into at six weeks old, they gave him a brand new S class for the duration of the repair (12 weeks) in which time he drove it 9 miles as he said it was a pile of $hite. He repeatedly asked the insurance company to take it back as it was adding a grand a week to the cost of the repair but they insisted he keep it, no wonder premiums are so high.

Here you go. They have light fittings in the main bits but not the fog/reverse, looks like they use the standard bulb and holder for that (I bought them used but never fitted them so don't really know). One of the bulb covers in the fog lamps was floating about inside but I fixed it in place a couple of years ago with araldite, seems to have done the job OK! This would of course be reflected in the price.

I've got a set of the in-pro smoked ones if you fancy a change?
-
Where did they manage to fit the cat litter?
-
What's to say they don't already???
-
The throttle flange is certainly available but at a price. I tried to get hold of a used one when I swapped to OBD2 but there were none available. Gave up and called Stealth for a price on the part........once I'd picked myself up off the floor I decided that I'd sell the Schrick and make do with the OBD2 benefits on their own!

Corrado Heat Shield Hood Liner (Group Buy 2014)
tonedef replied to Southie's topic in Group Buy Feelers
Can I get in on this? I'd like a VR6 set with no emblem as the car's going in the body shop soon and I want to spray under the bonnet! Cheers for organising! -
Bump. Still looking for something closer to home if possible?
-
Condition and colour/material not important. It's to use in the car while it's in the paintshop as the interior will be removed for re-trimming. Collection no problem but as close to M1 J30 as possible. Thanks
-
I'll take it off you for £25. I can collect but not until the weekend as I'm working away, PM me your details and we can fix something up. Cheers

No oil leak, it's dry where she parks. It's OK while you're accelerating but as soon as you lift off it whines and tightens up, sounds like maybe the diff. Last time it was main shaft bearings collapsed. Going to get it recovered to the garage and let them have a look as I'm offshore the next two weeks so no chance getting a look at it. Cars are always expensive aren't they, just by varying degrees!

Don't talk to me about Lupos, daughter's lunched it's gearbox for the second time yesterday, dad puts hand in pocket again!

Nobody seems to have answered this at the time. I just removed the original lambda sensor from my 95 VR6 part number 021 906 265 E and replaced it with 021 906 265 AK . The OBD2 ECU had kept throwing up a lambda fault code before swapping and is now fault free on VagCom. It was £138.47 from TPS after 10% discount.

Started it for the first time since April 2011......bit rattly at first, power steering pump whining etc but all quietened after about ten minutes. Result!!!

I live in north Derbyshire and work in Dinnington so am an almost daily driver in South Yorks!

Blackpool Tesco earlier in the week. Deep red, Bordeaux Pearl maybe, it did have a tow bar though. Didn't see who was driving and I was following in my Freelander so didn't flash or wave!

This morning I had been expecting that by the end of today I would write that I had started the engine for the first time in almost two and a half years but I will have to be happy with "tried to start the engine"! I did however get my new short shift (daves16v) gear lever fitted along with a fuel filter, oil filter, oil, coolant and power steering fluid all before I found that the fuel pump has died. Recently I have had the Koni coilover dampers refurbished, bought loads of new parts ready for a final push at getting it back on it's wheels and am now just waiting for koni to make me a pair of front springs.....currently ordered early December and promised for the end of February, after which the rest of the front end can bolt together and it can head for the body shop! All in small steps though, soon I will write that I started the engine for the first time in almost two and a half years!
