  1. UHOH! wellll There's no leaks! The car idles fine and doesnt stall, BUT the third, super loud, fan seems to be permanently on. iI came on when the temp reading was about 70, and now, about 3 hours later, when i turn the key in the ignition it comes straight on, without evenstarting the car. Before the whole leaking dealie started the temp gauge in the car was fine, and the fans were fine too I think. Although I think the other two fan settings may of stopped working just before the leaking got real serious. I have replaced the Blue and yellow sensors, and gotten a neuspeed thermostat. Any Ideas? Oh I've also found this wire with nowhere to go? is it just an ambient temperature sensor?
  2. Mine should be back on the road this evening too! I can't wait! Who knows what lerks round the corner though: gonna try and fit some 312s and coilies in the next week or two..... Wish me luck! Andy
  3. Right quick update, had all the housing off the car again, found the drain plug this time! Turns out that the yellow temp sensor ( now a shiny black and blue one) doesnt fit in its hole snuggley enough and leaks through the seal. Its noticeably easier to put the sensor in compared to the other two and you can wiggle it about! Looks like an early morning trip to the dealers to get them to replace it; unless anyone has any suggestions for getting it to fit in there ? I guess all glues will melt by 100 deg so thats out... Oh sorted the weird dead engine symptoms - tracked it down to water in the maf connector, no idea how that could of gotten in there, but its a big relief! Andy
  4. Hmm I think mine is turning into some multi-headed fault monster at the moment. I replaced everything and filled it up with water/coolant mixture then found a leak coming from the yellow temperature sensor! When I put it in it was much looser than the other two but I thought with the seal in place it would still be ok, I guess its a faulty housing from VW then..... dangg. Add to this the fact then when i tried to drain the remnants of the coolant earlier I ended up draining some oil! If someone could give a definite location of the drain plug I'd be forever grateful! I gotta drain all this new coolant mixture out to reuse! As a further kick in the head, I cleaned the ISV while I was waiting for parts to arrive, maybe a little too much, as now when i start the car it just searches for a second or two, goes to 1500 revs then cuts out. I'm kinda hoping it could be an oil pressure related problem. Argh the fun of Corrado ownership Andy
  5. Right sorry to join the thread but seems silly creating another new one when there are already so many, just a couple of quick picture based questions! I cleaned it once before but symptoms are slowly coming back, so I want to make sure I do it properly this time. Andy
  6. I'm not gonna lie, I pretty much put that picture up because I was hoping someone would say something like that. I knew it was meant to have a flathead screwdriver head on but couldnt find it anywhere! Lesson learnt!
  7. Well I did the first half of this job today and thanks to this "how to" it was miles easier. Took some pics of the carnage! Problems started early on though with the coolant plug (below) being rounded off: I just let the water drain from the hoses as I disconnected them. This in itself was a bit of a mare as all the clips were underneath the hoses. Nothing a mole grip and alot of swearing couldn't fix though! Then while taking the plugs out I found this! Think its still ok, just gonna glue it back together? Anyway, It'd been leaking slowly for a while before it started gushing coolant: All that rust should clean up easily though with some emery cloth. Finally, got the housing and ancilliaries off pretty easily, took it apart and found the cause of all my problems! This seal somehow got stuck in the thermostat! damm little bugger. I ordered new blue and yellow sensors, and all new housings, seals, gaskets and bolts from vw beforehand, but on further inspection I'm not sure if I need all of it, we'll see in a couple of days when they've managed to get it in, I might just tell them I dont want some bits cos its £110 as it stand plus the £23 for the neuspeed thermo. An expensive exercise all down to a little seal going astray! Thanks again Mic VR for this guide! Andy
  8. Wow that write-up is just what I've been looking for! Thanks alot for going to the trouble. Anyone know where to get these lower temp thermostats from? Any recomendations for model and whatnot!? Andy
  9. I had my mot yesterday and they failed it on " steering column top bearing excessively worn" Basically you can wiggle the steering wheel up and down a bit much I guess, This only happens on one of the height settings, and as luck would have it thats what I left it in that day! So I took it apart and worked out where the movement comes from: Is there any way I can adjust this out or will I need a new part? and if so which one? There dont seem to be any bolts I can tighten or anything else. I'm quite tempted to just put it on a lower height setting and take it back saying I fixed it....... Andy
  10. I think I'm in love. Would love one of these as my next car.
  11. What kind of skills do you need to fit these? Im planning on changing the suspension and front brakes soon and thought it''d be a good time to change the engine mounts too? Andy
  12. Woah, small world ehh. Theres quite a few good looking Vrs on here and pistonheads mate, but like people have said they'll be a bit over 2 grand for a good one....
  13. Max is the guy who half-owns gumball?
  14. Argh thats gutting mate. From my experience they'll write it off. There wasnt that much damage to mine and the inspector quoted £5000 to fix it. Which meant it was Cat C. They told me the scrap value of the car was 12% ish of the write-off value. Get prepared for a bit of a battle with the insurance company over the true value of your car. Stick to your guns though its worth it in the end. Andy
  15. To bleed the brakes at the master cylinder, do you have to press the brake pedal down in the same way as you press the clutch when bleeding at the slave cylinder? The Master is located under the tube beneath the MAF and throttle body isnt it?
  16. Phew! thank god I read that! right so I just get someone to press the clutch pedal in, undo the bolt and let air/fluid out, then do it back up and let the clutch out. Then repeat. (checking fluid levels dont go too low) If that doesnt do anything then do the same to the master, which is between the MAF and throttle body. :)
  17. Sorry to resurrect this thread, but your saying to bleed the clutch slave, yovue got to press the brake pedal, not the clutch pedal in?
  18. Hey does anyone know of a link to any decent guide for replacing first the clutch slave cylinder, then master , and finally bleeding the system. I think I'm about to embark upon it and cant find anything that good in search. Also does anyone know what the part numbers for these are from VAG? Or is there somewhere better to get them!? cheers
  19. interested-in-the-answer-bump!
  20. Anyone know how much it costs to get your car rolling roaded on average? Wanna see what my cars making before I consider any drastic stuff!
