  1. This is proving harder than I thought! So I've got Boxster calipers, pads, 312mm discs and 6mm spacers. I've been speaking to Badger5 about hoses and carriers for a while, but after about 8 emails it turns out they don't actually do the correct carriers! :mad2: Does anyone here run this set up and have an idea where to get carriers? I know a place sells them on ebay, but I've heard of a problem with their quality. Another thing I'm wondering concerns hoses - I remember when I did the 312 conversion it was important to make sure the hoses weren't too long, as they could rub through and cause problems. Am I ok using hoses intended for a Ibiza/Leon Cupra from Badger5 or Goodridge - will they be too long? Thanks, Andy
  2. Wow that's exactly what I was looking for thanks Marc.
  3. Dam! I just realised the one I got isnt UV! :cuckoo: I bought: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=34147 I guess I'll take it back and get a UV one of ebay. I'm a bit confused with this TBH, I wire the dials into the back of headlight switch so they work on the dimmer, that seems fine. As it stand the LCDs will turn on when I flick the headlight switch. So if I cut the grey/blue wire coming out of the gauge pod, and then join it into a black wire going into the back of gauge pod, they should come on with the ignition. Is there a specifc way to splice a wire into another wire ? I obv know how to do 2 wires, but this would mean there were 3 ends to join? Sorry for the questions, I've not done much with the electrics before Thanks for all the help so far, Andy
  4. Everyones entitled to an opinion lol I think the wheel is the one part that lets the interior down, it just looks f-ugly IMHO. It's taken me nearly 3 years to do something about it though, and now have a nice 320mm Momo Corse sitting at home ready to go on :) I think all the Momo wheels compliment the interior very well really. Andy
  5. Right, Got a 12inch Cathode tube from Maplins last night, will have a look at fitting it tonight. Spent most of the evening doing the reverse LCD mod which looks sweet :) Is there an easy way to get the LCD to light up when the ignition is on? Do I have to take a wire out of the back of the instrument cluster and somehow tap into an ignition live?
  6. Haha yeah, I noticed that but it looks like it's two tubes in one of the photos, so I thought it might be 2 12 inch tubes = perfect! They've got it in stock locally so I'll check it out. Thanks tho! Andy
  7. Good bit of thread resurrection! Got myself a set of dials and going to have a go at them tonight, I just wondered if this is the right kind of thing to get to light the needles: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... 7#features I've got late needles I think so don't need to paint them. I was looking for a UV blacklight tube but Maplins dont seem to have them :( Edit: found this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44224 in photos looks like 2 tubes, will investigate on the way home!
  8. How come your selling Alex!?

    Ignition barrel

Wheres the best place to get a new barrel? GSF or VW? Sods Law that I've just spent a ton of money trying to sort all the little niggles out, then I go to turn the key this morning and it wont turn at all! Had to wrestle with it for a min to get the key to turn. Should I get a new Ignition barrel AND steering lock, and if so does anyone know the VW part numbers for these? Thanks
  12. Does anyone know how much clearance you need between the disc and inside edge of the spokes to fit boxster-s brembos? I've got a set coming (cheers Mort!) and I'm gonna use my current 312 discs. Thanks, Andy
  13. I've got a pair of Recaros from a Mk3 Golf Colour Concept to go in, they already have the relay in the base of the seat and I bought a loom from eBay that arrived earlier. From what I've read all I need is the switch now. Will a Golf MK3 switch such as this fit? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123 Does anyone have a diagram showing where all the wires go? I assume one goes into each seat, and one goes into the switch, but where/how do I wire it into the fusebox? Thanks, Andy
  14. Cheers mate, so it does look a bit off then! I'll have a delve about over the weekend I guess!
  15. Hey, Does this look wrong to anyone? The gearstick has a lot of side to side and a bit of front-back movement when in gears. I guess this is down to an actual worn mechanism. Does anyone know of any way to tighten this up/fix it or does it require a complete new mech to sort out? Andy
  16. Damn I feared it might be something like that. I can source 12.9 bolts pretty easily, so thats not a problem, were the second set really bad too? I've just emailed Badger5 so we'll see how much carriers from them would be. Hopefully not too much more than 90 PM me with some info on the callipers etc as I may well be interested. Andy
  17. I have this problem sometimes. It mostly happens when I go into a shop quickly/fill up with petrol. When I go back to the car it wont start for a few mins. Turns over fine but won't fire. I've replaced the ignition switch, fuel pump relay, fuel pump itself and sender unit recently and all was well, but then it happened again yesterday, so I guess I haven't fixed it after all :( The problem seems to be that the fuel pump doesnt always prime when I turn the ignition on: sometimes I can turn the ignition on and just wait 30 seconds and then I'll hear the pump prime and it'll fire straight up. It's got me a bit confused as I've replaced nearly all parts I can think of!? I'm not sure what other parts affect the fuel pump priming but I guess maybe the ECU relay is next on the list. One day I'll get to the bottom of this! Andy
  18. Quick related question, just seen these on the 'bay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-PORSCHE-BREMBO ... 25578ef06d Does anyone have experience of these? They look like a good price compared to MBT etc. Would I be right in thinking that as I currently have 312s up front, I could keep my discs, get some Boxster S rears (part no. 996-352-421 & 996-352-422)and use these carriers? I imagine Id still have to use my 6mm spacers between the hub and the carrier as these are designed for a mkIV? Would there be any problems using a spacer between the hub and carrier? Any info/advice would be great! Andy
  19. I tried 300 the other week and it seemed really small. You'd probably get used to it though. I reckon 320mm is the one to go for, bit smaller than standard but not mental. Andy
  20. Got to laugh really.... My passenger side underlay is currently drying out next to the radiator. No idea how it got wet ye. Though, hoping it's from when the matrix went at the stertorous of the summer, but sounds a bit unlikely really! Good luck, Andy
  21. I've just got some Recaros from a Colour Concept Golf and they have the relays under the seats. Am I right in thinking all I need is a switch for the dashboard, a couple of plugs and some wire? That can't be worth 100 surely! :gag:
  22. Hmm this has got me confused! Went to Maplins after work and bought two 40A relays (they didn't had any 4 pin 30A) and a couple of 30A fuses. Fitted everything in the carpark as it was nice and bright. Everything seemed to be ok for a few mins, I could flick the stalk from main to dip ok, but then I started my car again after putting everything back on, it was back to normal: main beam light on the dash won't go out! I was thinking that maybe I've trapped a wire that puts full beam on? Although I'm not even sure if that's possible... Any ideas?
  23. Good plan with the relays, will get to Maplins on the way home and pick a couple up. Thanks, Andy
