  1. There are plenty of ABS valve blocks kicking around on ebay and in breaker's yards for Corrados. The drawback is you don't have much time if you've currently got no MOT... I am told that the valve block is known for premature failures on the VR6..
  2. Usually the insurance companies pass the money amongst themselves. It's like buying a house, the mortgage company give the money to your solicitor, not you ... I am pretty sure that if you appoint legal counsel, they can cash cheques in your name. Why don't you ask your bank?
  3. I'd probably push for a replacement - thereby saving yourself the hassle of having a repair and waiting. I think an item like that has a life expectancy well in excess of the 12 month warranty so I'd say it's not of merchantable quality if it's failing within 2 months.. (Use that phrase - as long as you don't "accept" a repair attempt, you have good grounds to get a replacement.) I think it would be a little unreasonable to hold out for a refund though.
  4. Does it feel like the steering is loose? I lost all feel through the steering column due to play in the column. But in corners it would load up nicely and provide plenty of feedback...
  5. There's no strictly defined limit, just "a reasonable time" written in law. Therefore it's down to the interpretation of whatever court it winds up in as to whether 2 months is "reasonable" or not. Why do you want your money back? Won't they just replace it? Did you decide you don't like it? Under the law you have a lot of rights in this country in circumstances like this, but it's still best to be reasonable.
  6. I'd say there's no chance whatsoever of it being something else. Not what you wanted to hear, but you know.. sometimes there *is* a rat living in the freezer.
  7. The german brands almost always fit Conti's. As they're a german tyre maker ..
  8. You can get the Toyo T1-Rs in 205/50/15 aswell - and they're rated 89V, so no loading problems either.

    ABS PUMP

Gotta be careful to make sure the pressure is dissipated before you remove any of the lines. The ABS pump runs internal fluid pressures in the regions where the fluid will cut through bone if it escapes...! Not wanting to scare you, but be sure to pump the pedal loads with the ignition off before even thinking about unhooking the lines.

    nasty knocking

Funny, when I saw this thread ("nasty knocking") I was instantly reminded of this thread: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight= ("Ya mates sister and possibly their mum??!!") Of course on reading it it's clear that these threads are unrelated.. but still..
  11. If it flashes at you it flashes twice.. Anything less is a coincidence - probably a reflection (particularly as you probably go past it at the same time every day and so on..) The front-facing cameras don't flash, they tend to use the IR flash units for those (don't want to cause accidents by flashing in the eyes of the driver, now do they?).
  12. Gotta wonder if they didn't accidentally scrape the other side too ...
  13. DIY tyre fitting? I'd be too paranoid about scratching the rims... The pro tyre fitter machines don't touch the rim and hold the wheel by gripping it via the hub, which is downright impossible if you're doing it by hand.
  14. You might be referring to the basic settings on the ECU - that can cause jerkiness with on/off throttle. That's a registered VAG-COM job, or dealer diags tools. Also worth checking out that the throttle position sensor is returning sensible values and works nice and smoothly right from open to closed. If it is cured by the basic settings, I would guess this can be caused if someone's disconnected the battery during the clutch work you had done ..
  15. VR6s are notorious for a tiny bit of oil seepage around the outside of the head gasket. And that's from middle age- 50k miles+. Just keep an eye on the oil levels and enjoy it. Some people have real reasons for thinking their car is knackered! ;)
  16. Advice: shut up with the Corrado paranoia and just drive your bleedin car!!
  17. There's no clutch cable on a Corrado, it's all hydraulic. If it's juddering when trundling along it has to be either suspension-borne vibration or the engine is misfiring, imho. If it was vibration, I'd expect it to get worse with speed rather than go away though. FWIW, my VR6 will trundle at tickover in traffic beautifully smoothly.
  18. You can do mine instead, if you're itching to do it ... ;)
  19. Doh, I completely missed the fact this was a 16v! :) The symptoms are sooo classic VR6 I didn't even think .. !
  20. Not sure what control is required at idle, tbh, other than a fully functional ISV, obviously. But I'd expect to see "idle stabilisation not reached" or "idle speed too low" or something if the ISV was seized, no?
  21. The move from 195/50/15 to 205/50/15 means the rolling radius will increase by 10/2 mm - 5mm .. i.e. the difference between a brand new tyre and a part worn tyre.
  22. The aux water pump is also there to circulate the water after engine switch-off to stop any hot spots hanging around.
  23. Like Supercharged and 2CC both said - the first one to go is usually the heater-matrix-to-head hose which would put the water in *exactly* the spot you're talking about. You can't see it unless you take the ignition cable guides off from around the throttle body. It usually splits right above the connection to the head, and it's also often caused by sloppy engine mounts allowing the engine to put the hose under too much pressure.
  24. mytyres.net are fine if you're not in a hurry .. oh and if they have stock. They won't tell you if they don't, they'll just let you wait to contact them. Which is annoying when you *are* in a hurry. Yes, camskill get a thumbs up from me, cheap *and* cheerful (in a positive way). Bit of a limited range, but they seem to have decent stock and quick delivery.
  25. If the knock sensor is faulty it'll drop back to full (~11 degrees) ignition retard, which might cause some of the problems you're seeing, yes.
