  1. I think thats for the secondary air injection mate? I know there's a solenoid at the front which I've deleted and that is part of the SAI system. I can only assume that is the hose for it! I've been fixing everything up today (made up a bracket for the ecu) and put it all back together. After I did the throttle pedal has stopped working! We had unplugged the pedal to work out the fitting of it (with the engine/ecu still powered mind you). It was revving fine before we started working on the ecu bracket and pedal location. Now I'm getting: 008487 - Accelerator Position Sensor 2 (G185): Signal too Low P2127 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON I've tried clearing it, leaving the ecu disconnected for a while, nothing. I can't seem to find an error for the first position sensor either! I'm wondering if it's a wiring fault, yet I checked the plug over the phone with mark only a few days ago... Which leaves the pedal, are throttle pedals likely to just go only a few days out of the packet? I'm completely stumped :/
  2. What's the best approach for the pedal mounting? I have the bracket should I rivet, bolt or weld it? Near in mind there's fuel lines under there somewhere! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  3. Sorry guys let me clear this up, I am not asking for a 'fare' here therefore I am not operating without an AOC, I am merely saying a share of the costs will be fine. I should have phrased that differently at the onset, rather than set a rate. It is perfectly legal to ask for a friend or passenger to help cover their share of the costs, it becomes illegal if that person is being told they should pay or does more than their share. You might notice I didn't actually state in the original post that it will cost xyz only what's fair. When you understand my costs to flying are in the region of £110 an hour then I would happily take a forum member (of whom I may be familiar with) for a bit of help towards said cost. What I'm not doing is actively advertising my services and/or offering ferrying trips, this would be entirely illegal. This thread is just to let people know that I am here and willing to show them what the experience of flying in a light aircraft entails. I am offering a seat to people who are similar vw enthusiasts and therefore whom I would class already as friends or acquaintances. Anyone not sure: http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/1196/20071015IllegalPublicTransportPRCampaign.pdf I appreciate the feedback though, I will leave this thread here for those that might want to contact me to join me on a flight. I have rephrased the initial thread to save confusion. I have just re read the CAA documents regarding taking of passengers, link below. http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/1428/SummaryOfCATPTAWANO2009May2010.pdf If you check section 6.3 in the exceptions, you will see about cost sharing.
  4. It is a shame mate! I'd be more than happy to take you up for a flight to see what it's all about :) If I am up near you in the air I'll most certainly give you a shout
  5. Thanks for the message. From a legal point of view as long as the pilot is not profiting, it is fine. I am only offsetting a portion of my costs and merely taking passengers around local areas. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  6. I might be able to consider visiting places to offer it out of Norfolk! I'll keep you posted but thanks for the feedback :-) The plane I fly Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  7. Hi guys, Working towards my CPL I've been flying a lot of hours to get to my targets. I've still got a fair few flights left to do, wondering if anyone would be interested in experiencing a light aircraft for a donation? Just a bit of help towards costs would be fair :) I'm based in Norfolk so anyone nearby would benefit from it really. Any thoughts/takers? James
  8. Timmahh, I think we have spoken before! You are just down the road from me, if I can help at all let me know mate. I tend to do all the work on my own car. Cheers, James ---------- Post added at 8:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:42 AM ---------- Oh I think the link arms might be from the steering rack? I have a pair in hardly used condition, might help you if you want em for a tenner?
  9. Sam, Can't remember where but I saw a guy get a bespoke front strut brace made with the same inside capacity as the expansion tank. All was left was to fit a small filler cap and a few pipes and it was an item that served two jobs. The bay looked very tidy after :)
  10. Just put a 24v into a Rado then?
  11. Just had Mark on the phone, he talked me through testing the plug with a multimeter. All voltages are correct the plug is functioning as it should. Now we just wait for the pedal!
  12. Hi mate, can I ask, what measurements of pipe you used between intake-maf-cda? I have exactly the same setup and I need to get hold of the pipework to get it to fit! Cheers
  13. Right, About time I updated this: MK4 engine loom - Appears too much hassle to make this work on the MK5 lump. The particular setup I had would not connect to my grey cam position sensors, the plugs were too small. Mk5 loom was acquired from a breaker for £70. If you do attempt to adapt the MK4 loom, get the cam sensors, but then you'll need to check each wire corresponds to the correct pin on the ecu plug, more trouble than its worth IMHO. MK4 fusebox loom - This is doable, the MK5 seems like rocking horse s*@t to get hold of. Mark sucessfully adapted my MK4 loom to a MK5 by changing the plugs for the lambdas, and pedal. There are a couple of plugs that also are not needed on the Mk5 engine and these can be chopped. Mk4 ECU - no point even trying to get this working, the internals of the ecu are very difficult to decifer, even if you do get the looms to connect to the MK5 engine, the cam position sensors will report in the wrong format. If there is no choice, the sprockets and possibly cams will need exchanging with a MK4s, a very long task indeed. For the BUB engine, the part numbers required are 022906032 CD or CE (manual or auto). Both will work regardless, you will just need some extra bits deleting from the auto's ecu and you will have a couple of errors from it. DBW pedal - currently in limbo with this one, my pedal attempts so far have led with little success. Others have had success seemingly with pedals that I haven't. It seems each ecu might be different, but my advice is to just get the mk5 r32 pedal, don't take the risk of paying for anything that might not work. Part number 1k2721503N. Lambda sensors - Find a year and get the right lambdas for that year of engine. There are so many different lambda sensors it can be difficult to find the correct one. Use this site http://www.meat-doria.com/ it's a godsend, just put the details in of the car your engine came from. You can find the year stamped on the side of the head. It will tell you what part numbers of lambda sensor will work with said engine. I have no reason to doubt this site, if anyone finds any inconsistencies let me know I will remove it. I'll finish this when I get home!
  14. Ok great, yeah sunday is probably the likelihood, after the mot on saturday will be the honeymoon period! haha! I'm starting to hate saying ill do xx on a certain day budgeting that everything will go fine, its like shooting myself in the foot! Things invariably go wrong! So we will say Sunday if everything doesn't go to pot and the throttle works and I get it through the MOT!
  15. Hi, yes decat is still available! Gus, sorry for the delay do you still want the damper box? It's 6-8 months old I think sorry yes.
  16. Bummer, I could drive down and see you if this pedal works? I've got mot booked on saturday! Whether I make the mot or not is another matter.
  17. I had this problem then realised the middle of the 3 white fusebox connectors wasn't properly seated! It was a long one that day ok guys? Kev how long till you're up and running?
  18. Well thats the second pedal tried and no go! First tried a pedal I got from ebay (MKV said they pulled it from a 1.6 petrol but the pn correlates to 1.9/2.0 diesels). Next pedal ordered from VW was meant for a GTi, lot cheaper than the R32 one, still no response from the pedal engine wants to idle only. So now I've bit the bullet, VW might refund me for the £60 gti pedal they will send it off first :bad-words: but this is increasingly frustrating! I hope it's not similar to the story in heristes build thread going on here... So third pedal should arrive thursday and I'll be £100 lighter from that, lets just hope its the one!
  19. As per title, need a wing to fit my VR6, any colour will do but DPB would be preferred to save me spraying! Cheers
  20. Yeah I've gone and ordered a new pedal from vw (£50 for the MKV GTi one). They wont accept it back if it doesn't work though! I assume as the GTI is petrol it will work fine? I've sure enough found the error about the low voltage from the pedal. It's not a registered VCDS so I cant get all the errors frustratingly, but should I be getting errors from the Lambda B2 S2? I know thats the post cat sensor but I thought I wasn't expecting those as Mark had coded them out! Ideas?
  21. Hi all, As the wiring has come out and I'm just tidying it up with my conversion, I am a bit stumped as to the routing it took. At the moment it's not allowing the battery to sit back in the bracket by the PAS tank as it's in the way! Has anyone got any pics that could help me route the wiring that goes along the side, I'm at a loss wether the engine wiring turns towards the engine just before the PAS pipe or after it! If it's after it's very tight and I can't figure how to secure it to give the battery an easy time. The flat bracket that the pas pipes run past, does the wiring go under that? Bentley was no help either! ---------- Post added at 4:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:18 PM ---------- Actually thinking about it, I have more wiring than with the VR6, I'll just have to route it under the PAS hose and bracket or something!
  22. The solenoid is meant to open in certain conditions only though, I'd be a bit careful of running it continuously open if it starts sucking air out of the tank especially when the engine intake is running a high vacuum level, I'm guessing which would be high revs dropping to idle so throttle valve closed but pistons still trying to suck air in. I've got a dead pedal, but i wanted to check what error codes come up. I connected up my 409.1 vag com and a generic ebay cable (always worked fine before) and it's finding the ecu fine, but reporting back no errors? There is also a message saying no errors or cannot communicate or something. I expected to see the pedal error kev mentioned earlier, so what gives? Is my vag com too old?
  23. I'm interested to know this too matey, as mine has no plug for the carbon canister I am unsure where to go with the connection of it! I guess the only option for us is to plug it directly to the intake without the solenoid, but then this would be drawing constant air from the tanks, probably screwing up the maf too. What's the best answer then to the knowers?
  24. It only bloody works! Raised the fuel pressure bit by bit, got to 50 psi with a couple of leaks (looks like a poor built fpr. No rev counter and no throttle pedal response but idled fine. I ran it for 10 minutes and didn't get any oil temp or water temp response. If those sensors weren't working the oil pressure would likely flash wouldn't it? Being on the same collection of wires and all? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
