  1. cool, sounds good wendy would you mind me asking where you are having your paint done, why there & do they offer any guarantee's on their work? I think the insurers get you to complete some forms, send them lots of pictures & present evidence of cars being sold for around the value, or above, which you wish to insure for & then you come to an agreement which could be good as there have been a few seriously well priced sales recently
  2. cool as a mo fo! cracking news rob thank you
  3. cool that is reassuring I think the gf has asked about if they refurb the unit you send them or if they currently have an exchange option, IE they send you a refurb'd one and you send your knackered one to them I will put their rely up once received
  4. bless you Jim that is an extremely kind offer, very much appreciated fortunately the valver was only missing the Kamei front spoiler & as such had the original eyebrow on it when I brought it back someone had painted it black though & not very well at all so it is currently in my workshop half rubbed down
  5. FYI everyone - the gf has emailed BBA today to enquire about the rado ABS refurb, availability & options I will post on here once we have a reply :)
  6. they are just robbing bar stewards Mic I got a quote on a £600 lupo the other week, for similar reasons as you are thinking, on a new policy (as my VR is my main policy with the NCB & the valver is on a classic policy with limited mileage & started with zero NCB) & they wanted £340 compare this with the price I paid to insure the valver on a new policy last year.....car insured for £750 and a premium of £180 ish IIRC EDIT: the company I used for the valver is a sister company of Adrian flux who insure the VR & they gave me some discount due to the high NCB on the VR policy which raised the discussion with the gf about it would be better to keep the valver than buy a cheap run around - winner winner chicken dinner lol thus my advice Mic would be buy yourself another rado, 16v flavour ;) , & insure on a classic policy
  7. yeah I remember seeing the various threads Jim Trimsport have been good at getting rado products done but for them to remanufacture items I guess it takes a lot of time & planning plus, though I really like many of their products, they are rather on the expensive side. perhaps a vinyl overlay could be a cheaper option which would be better for some
  8. tidy! that could well present itself as a great option for many of us as im sure most have faded corrado scripts
  9. I noticed something I quite like in terms of look when checking air pressures on the valver this morning the tires are now odd different sizes on the front to the back (195*45*16 front & 205*50*16 rear) & it has produced a very slight whacky races / drag racer look.....
  10. very interesting rob do you think they might be able to replicate the brushed effect on the rear corrado badge? IIRC there has been mention a few times on here of people getting the repro'd but think the finish was an issue
  11. exactly what I thought m8!! couldn't tell the colour quite right - kinda looks like the DBP purple
  12. thanks chick glad you got on with her ok yesterday & enjoyed it is much better now the PS belt isn't slipping & I sorted all 4 wheels air as well this morning
  13. has anyone called BBA reman to enquire yet? they do have a way of finding these specialist companies. I recall watching one about a Porsche where they had custom suspension made for it which was rated as per the Porsche originals as for the parts - im guessing with all the contacts they have & people 'working' for them then they can get pretty much cost prices I work for a company that provides the software for car part manf's & my friend got me staff rate on some parts for the valver. an example being the brake balance bias valve, normally around £90 they are but I got for £30. the discs & pads were cheap as chips but cant recall how much mark up on cars parts is huge!!
  14. small update for the valver since getting it back on the road I have been driving it on the tires which came with the BBS splits I brought off here but they were the wrong size & made the steering feel very heavy (205*50*16) plus I was finding it even heavier when moving at slow speeds, eg parking. as the VR needs new bridgestones on the front this month I got some toyo part worns the other day, in a 195*45*16, which is as close to the standard 195*50*15 as I think I can get steering instantly better but still not right - oh poop I thought as all of the steering mechanism from rack to wheel is new at each end, including the rack! my mechanic popped round last night for a separate reason but being the great guy he is he had a quick look & the new power steering belt has stretched a little. a few minutes later, & thankfully I had my my trolley jack & tools, he had tightened a couple of things & sorted the steering out a much nicer drive to work was had in it this morning & with the sun shining I had a real feeling of happiness & excitement to get my old car back to how I remember it was :D just need to teach myself how to plastic weld so I can get the Kamei front spoiler back on & it will be pretty much as it looks in the early pages of this thread lol
  15. oh dear that doesn't sound good more show than go with that dinner then :(
  16. LOL I had a similar wonder but only if Ed would lend me his Wurth Plastic repair kit
  17. not yet but im sure I will lol
  18. cool thanks for explaining that JMC
  19. yes Dox, the gf & I both noticed that some cosmetic work had been done but nothing mentioned in the program. I guess as you say they cant show the same jobs each week. plus I guess as they only have a limited amount of time per program they cant include every job they do
  20. sounds about right fender & yes IIRC the VR has both front & rear ARB's
  21. good info loepan, thank you
  22. the gf & I also questioned the heated part as we didn't see any mention of the loom or dash switch. I didn't know you could get a non heated leather interior though as for the handling comment - I always find it a little odd people slate the VR for how it handles. surely it all depends on how each individual car is set up, maintained, what parts are on it & how old they are. I think a true comparison could only be made by testing each flavour when they had just come out of the factory. plus is the VR block really that much heavier than the G60 or 16v such that it gives the implied impairment in handling? one of the big points with the VR engine when it was designed was the ability to get 6 cylinders in such a small block EDIT - having taken a look on here http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=15653#a_dimensions there isn't much in it when considering the overall weight. Plus that site doesn't cater for the fact many VR's had leather interior, which I would estimate is fairly heavier than cloth versions ;) lol Kerb weights being: 16v = 1090kg G60 = 1115kg VR = 1240kg so only 125kg in it between G60 & VR - do any of our track munching rado lovers have any idea if that would make much of a difference? though I imagine it would also depend on how that weight difference is distributed EDIT*2 - that carfolio site makes some good reading. I didn't know the difference in book speed between VR & G60 for 0-60mph was 1.4 seconds! (6.4s for the VR compared to 8s for the G60) Also a 1.7 second difference in their 1/4 mile book times I don't know many newer car specs but I believe you have to spend a fair whack of £'s on a new car to get a mid 6 second 0-60 time without any upgrades would those differences in time be due to how they get their power to the tarmac, as there is only a 32bhp difference between G60 & VR, or due those extra few horses I wonder My VR is an absolute joy round any twisties & when you get your corner entry & exits correct it is extremely rewarding (even when you get them wrong the chassis & stability make it for an easy catch to correct) - a combination of great agility & able to get lots of power down well. Combine this with a dual carriageway clover leaf section for example & mine will give much more modern, & much more expensive cars, a whooping most of the time the same can not be said for my valver - even when I used to own it years ago & it was less worn it didn't even come close to how my VR is now BUT the VR is that way, I believe, because I have progressively renewed all of the running gear, engine & gearbox mounts, it has a proper suspension setup in the KW's & excellent contact with the road due to the bridgestone's to get the valver back on the road this year part of what it needed was the complete steering rack to rod end's replacing on both sides & some of the running gear. even with those done it still doesn't compare to the feel & feedback on the VR
