  1. nice! great to be at number 1! i certainly would like a number 10 though, especially the 850 with its V8 my uncle has a very old BMW 3.0CS which he has recently started to restore. it is a beauty & almost has a number plate matching the model, BMW309L - it is like this http://1-photos.ebizautos.com/used-1974-bmw-3.0-cs-9423-7608791-1-640.jpg
  2. sorry stuart i misunderstood have you tired calling VW or asking ThursDave on here?
  3. hi m8 only just seen this have you looked in the boot for the factory sticker? it has the specific paint code on there - eg my blackberry is LK4Z i have a feeling there is also a sticker on the inside of the passenger wing, a yellow one with a bar code
  4. you can fit the 5.25" Kappa's in the standard door cards, i have them in the VR as mentioned. it is a bit of a squeeze depth wise & you have to thread the passive crossover into the recess in the door pocket but they make the sound much different up front one of the issue with the rear speakers is that they have a relatively small surface area due to the shape of them, as such they will always struggle to really perform well i put a small mdf 'plank' on the underside of my parcel shelf, to add rigidity, installed the Kappa 6*9's & then recovered over the top with acoustic carpet. note - NOT acoustic CLOTH as that is too thin & will sag over time. whereas if you get the carpet nice & tight, its not really carpet just quite a bit thicker than the cloth, it wont sag. the 6*9 Kappa's really are fantastic
  5. tidy, hope they are both treating you well :) as ive mtnioned i have not watched but i would have thought the 'new' version of the show would be completely different to the old one. reason being that they slated the old one so much when on its way out, ok maybe not the show itself sometimes but definitely the presenters & their style, that the only way to renew it would be to go with a completely new format i guess it displays the complacency & laziness & completely wrong focus (i could go on lol) that the BBC have - they are about as beneficial to Great Britain as the pompous arses we call politicians
  6. that is good news!! how have you found the difference since fitting the new ones?
  7. Mr Bacon where have you been lurking!?!? ;) lol ive not seen the episode yet but this thread has been a good read of what to expect....& probably result in it NOT being added to the 'record list' lol
  8. lol i too have those very speakers in the VR doors & i decided to not refit the covers rather than butcher them i like the tweeter button on them but often catch it with my foot when exiting the drivers side cracking speakers though! & i have the 6*9 Kappa's in the rear shelf too - a well worth addition if you dont have them already Jim! FYI ive a couple of old parcel shelves if you need a donor m8 ;) & can send you a pic of my shelf install, as i stiffened it up so as to reduce vibrations etc EDIT - just realised you put them in the dash, that must of been tricky. in the valver i put some small 4" infinity's when i 1st owned it, the covers still didnt fit though. they were still there when i brought the valver back too lol as were the ally door pins :D
  9. ahhh poop & double poop!!!
  10. hmmm intersting what kind of price is it? i might use that to re-line the doors as self adhesive has to be better than that awful black putty stuff Edit: its not too bad really http://www.silentcoat.co.uk/collections/silent-coat/products/silent-coat-2mm-mat-door-pack
  11. ahh i see i thought it was something different as i knew you had used a lot of dynamat for soundproofing. it looks like it is stuck well to the doors in lots of places, does it have a sticky back or did you use the black horrible putty stuff?
  12. i like it EJ out of interest, what door liner is that you have? (the silver stuff)
  13. just a quick post to say thanks to Oli for meeting me on bank holiday monday & passing on the suspension - coolies too - the valver will be liking them lol
  14. ok - am i right that there are potentially 2 issues here the first being that it struggles to idle when cold & the second that the rev counter dropped to zero but the engine continued to run as normal if yes - i am unsure with the idle when cold but there are lots of threads on this forum about it as for the rev counter dying but all seems well with the engine running - it is likely to be an issue with the dash clocks. my VR has for a long time had a rev counter that occasionally dances around & can drop completely to zero & the be unresponsive BUT no issue with the engine actually running. i read on here, from Kev Bacon IIRC, that there is a resistor on the back of the dash clocks which can develop a break in the soldering - which when happens interrupts the connection & causes the rev counter to die or dance i did ask stealth to resolder said resistor when they had to change my matrix but it still does it even now - usually a light tap on the clocks or the dash above sorts it out however if the engine was being problematic when the rev counter died then some fault finding will be required
  15. great list :) i nearly brought a red pug 205 1.9 GTI with a full Dimma body kit on it, crazy looking it was & i wonder what it would be worth now fiesta RS Turbo's used to be rather smart too IIRC
  16. me too in fact i had a 'breathed' on 1.4SR nova when i was 21 - my word it was fun to drive!! but god damn it used to eat rear wheel bearings for breakfast lol to this day, no matter what car i have tried with, i still have not been able to match the speed at which i got it to go through the S bend section of the clover leaf highway by where i live. it was like it was on rails. i used to run bridgestone S02's on it & they are definitely my favourite tire of all time, stunning in the dry & 99% as good in the wet i still wish i had not written it off & still had it today - ive got a picture somewhere at home, i will try & scan it & post it i recall they used to squeeze the 3 litre turbo lumps out of the astra into the nova, that was a weapon i would still like even now lol
  17. i did get a little out of VW themselves & they did look into if my valver's Kamei kit was a factory option, which it seems it wasnt from their response.
  18. only just seen this post thank you for the likes, i tried to like all of the other rado's too :) thank you also for the exhaust comment! i really must do another video to try & capture the burble i can get when downchanging from 3rd to 2nd - it really is a goosebumper of a sound lol
  19. nice write up :) i have always liked your old 4*4 - sounds like it was a little troublesome, i get the feeling many VRT's are though PS - blackberry is best :D lol
  20. fingers crossed for the above EJ
  21. much appreciated Oli see you monday :)
  22. PM's received & replied, thanks fella :)
