  1. thanks Jim i appreciate the input & feedback. TBH i have been with ardian flux for pretty much all of my driving life, over 20 years now. i always get other companies to quote & then give flux a call last & they always beat the others so i renew with the same policy & cover each year. the VR is my main daily, at present, & as such on 10K miles classic policy, all mods declared (i have quite a few but not huge amount), has key cover, the blah de blah legal stuff & a fairly low excess of £300 however, the valver is insured with HIC on a 3K miles classic policy. again with mods declared, though that was more for the sake of the ultra rare Kamei kit on it than performance gains as it has zero of those lol. IIRC that was about £160 last year but i only had 1 years NCB for that policy. hopefully it might go down a bit next month as i have accrued another year now once the VR has had its paint sorted i think i will need to switch tack & swap the 2 over such that the VR will be on the low mile policy but also then on agreed value I will definitely add Lynbook to the list who i contact though & see how they do on the valver :)

  4. bargain for 15 notes unsure about if put inside the car, mine rests on the outside of the rear window & they are designed for outdoor use
  5. the model i got is able to do both i believe. it has a detachable accessory plug so as to swap between cigarette lighter connection (female end i believe & thus wont plug into the one in the car) & then crocodile clips i sit the panel on the rear screen & then the cable just about reaches over the roof to the battery, connecting directly to the positive & negative terminals accordingly the box says that the panel will work when it is overcast but not when raining. sunshine varies where i live, i am in midlands area, but we have had some fairly clear sunny days recently. i got this one from maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/solar-powered-12v-24w-battery-trickle-charger-n59fu?cmpid=ppc&gclid=CIrd1ZmnpMsCFUsCwwod1HMPEg i went for the 2.4W version as it was on discount & cheaper than the 1.5W version lol bargain for £15 ;) as i mentioned in previous post, on this occasion, i hadn't used the valver for about 12 days

  7. as the VR is with the mechanic I used the valver to get to work today I was a touch hesitant as ive not driven her for over a week & a half but started 1st time & was a nice journey - despite the back being full of junk ready to go to the tip lol I am very confident now, as it has been in use for some time, that the solar powered trickle charger I brought for it is doing a nice job of keeping the battery healthy even when there are weeks between starts sometimes :) i really must strip the dash again in the summer though & re-felt my flaps (oooo-errrr) - was a tad cool in the cabin today but i had a big coat & hat on lol
  8. great to see old forum owners still keen to see where their rado is now I was thrilled to bits when I managed to buy my white valver back almost 2 years ago - whoa that time went fast!!!

  11. thanks Jim, much appreciated I recall Wendy mentioning her paint work. time is not too much of an issue as long as they produce an excellent & long lasting result. i have the valver so can use that in the absence of the VR. I am considering trying to find somewhere that guarantee their work plus I need to check if they would tackle any rust areas & resolve & treat them properly. & think about glass in or out & how they handle that I will check my PM's to refresh my mind about if I have spoke to wendy already EDIT: got the info Jim - i had indeed contacted wendy who helped previously but it was quite a while ago lol
  12. hi fraser when you get the G13 from VW the bottle has instructions on how to dilute & what ratio. it is on the label which you can peel back ;)
  13. it is nice the longer evening are retuning over the last 2 nights I have been able to complete the coilover clean :) I am hoping to get the VR's paint sorted soon but the more I think about it the more it makes me nervous due to the amount of work required & finding somewhere that can / will take it on & actually produce a good result. I have been burnt with paint work previously & my bonnet is truly awful no the micro blisters have started to pop
  14. copy of update on what did I do today thread.... got the VR in the air yesterday - holy cow im going to change my route to work!! the KW's & under wheel arch were caked in dirt & crap off the country lanes. thus ensued a messy affair of scraping, knocking, spraying, scrubbing & getting very wet & mucky with back spray from the water hose jet but I got the passenger side done.... before & after....

  17. I understand the fitment might not be correct but ive just walked past a mondeo st with wheels looking very much like those no lip as per the Oz ones as you mention too
  18. ouch - the roads in the UK are awful! I know people go on about crashy suspension but even really hard set ups feel nice on a smooth road for the vast majority of roads it is the fact they are so un maintained & full of patches that make our cars feel harsh - on a proper tarmac (rather than pebble dash fecking pile of crap), well laid surface my VR is sublime as the refreshed running gear makes everything feel more cushioned. on that note & from personal experience, make sure you change your front wishbone bushes & rear beam bushes as they have huge impact on crashy feelings. finally, FYI, I purchased my KW's direct from KW. I just called them up & the nice lady on the phone did a price match for me.
  19. hi m8 they definitely seem to be lasting well! & after taking a beating of dirt & grime the only slight issue seems to be some of the yellow paint flaking on the springs. in terms of performance they are as good as when they were fitted all that time & IIRC over 60K miles ago I reckon if I removed them & spent an hour or 2 on each one I could get them to look virtually new my only reservation, as I have said previously on other posts, is that I would have liked to have been able to afford the V2 or V3's - purely for the reason of being able to soften the ride just a very tiny bit personally I would rather put up with being a little harsh & bobbly over rough roads in place of feeling like it is glued to the road & how bloody lovely it feels on a smooth surface :D
  20. lol yes m8 TBH it is my own fault for not getting under there sooner. the KW's have been on for about 5 years I think but ive only recently got myself a house with a drive & a jack, tools & torque wrench etc they came up rather nicely considering though :) I managed to get the drivers side rear done (in a fashion as I was battling a loss of light) once home from work last night & am hoping the rain stays away later so I can finish the last one then at least the MOT man can tell they are coilovers lol PS the auto glym engine bay cleaner helped after an initial scrape & spray

I also tackled the drivers wing mirror, which turned into a yay & boo event removing the mirror & backing plate from the mirror housing was nice & easy, getting the plastic backer off was not so much lol after half an hour or so of letting it soak in warm soapy water & battling with a thin scraper I eventually managed to get the 2 apart & some glass in my fingers to boot but at least I didn't break the backer as per other users on here have stated the ebay replacement had the heater element pins slightly in the wrong place but a sharp knife sorted that school boy error though as I didn't check to see if the old glass & new glass had the same profile - it turned out they didn't! the ebay ones are very slightly do not match in turn I was little over zealous & by trying to force the backer round the glass I cracked the damn new glass, grrrr!!! however at least it isn't smashed into bits like the old one was so I stuck it back on the car & have to say that I was very impressed this morning with how quickly it cleared the ice. drivers side was completely clear when passenger was still half frozen also, though the glass profile doesn't match the plastic backer it actually doesn't look too bad in the housing. though my eye does keep focusing on the small gap between glass & backer in the one corner lol fingers crossed it passes the MOT with a cracked mirror
