1. Decided it was about time to catch up on what has been happening with the VR's. For now, I'll concentrate on the red one as it's easier.
2. Try here, £15: http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_brakes.php
3. In March 2010 I enquired after the modern replacement for the out-of-date period first aid kits people buy. AFAIR, it is the same size, comes in a hard plastic box and (of course) the contents are guaranteed useable. Ask at the dealers for: VW First Aid Kit (VOTEX) Part number: 000 093 113. Price with VAT was £22.99
4. Another reference post, prompted by a swine of a job removing a brake bias valve, which ended up requiring a bar welding to each of the two CSK securing bolts to break the galvanic corrosion. Researching a solution, came across this jointing compound, used in the boating world, which prevents galvanic corrosion (e.g. brake bias valve, rear licence plate bulb cover). Available on Ebay and from ship's chandlers.
5. Doubt it, Kev. I heard that they have not made automotive radiators for years. Just commercial, agricultural, plant etc.
6. The guide I mentioned about using Citric Acid to clean off rust warns not to breath the fumes. So doing it in your kitchen might not be the smartest idea. If others want to read the full guide they can download it from here: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?56334-Cleaning-hubs&p=725354&viewfull=1#post725354
7. These are VW prices (from TPS - so trade) as of about a week ago

Price Price incl. 8. Thanks for all the help (dragon green) and offer. I have managed to get a new item and must remember to routinely search the VW Classic Parts Center for dealer network 'Obsolete' items. In sum, the VW Classic Parts Center (http://www.vw-classicparts.de/) can supply this obsolete item, which can be ordered through their UK partner (VW Heritage www.vwheritage.com) for £7.34
9. Has anyone purchased one of these obsolete items from VW Classic parts and can confirm the correct part number? I have asked the UK supplier (VW Heritage) but they cannot help. The original VW part number for the licence plate trim was 535 813 989. VW classic parts lists two part numbers for this with a difference in price as follows: 535 813 989 Trim for licence plate €63.10 535 813 989A Trim €73.90 Thanks.
10. OK. Understood. Without the edge strips a good coat of cavity/underbody wax should prevent any issues, hopefully.
11. Yes, Ian. Just checked again with TPS. Obsolete as of Feb. Hmmn! Just done a search on the part number (535943127) and the response is 'not found'. Have you a direct link to a page? ---------- Post added at 02:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:09 PM ---------- Apologies. I have got it. Many thanks
12. Looking for the above in good condition. Colour not important as it is going to be galvanised before painting. VW price was £7.76. Would buy new but now obsolete from the dealers.
13. I didn't think this was water proof. Is it? I was under the impression that the sole purpose of the roof rail is to hide the seam where the car sides are welded. I read on here of someone who bought some very thin rubber strips which he glued on his roof strips. It looked pretty good, so I ordered some. :epicfail: The strips have to be glued on top of the original, perishing edge and mine had been cut off. I also had to explain to my partner why I had received some rubber straps from an S&M equipment supplier :thumbleft:
14. I have just paid £58.01 each from the local branch of TPS. The dealer's price was £64.45 a side. I suspect it will not be long before these are obsolete. I wonder whether an alternative is to replace the perished rubber edging by gluing in/ pushing in a very small diameter rubber/skinned foam tube or a solid neoprene cord. They do a massive selection on this site (http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk) and have a neoprene cord available from £1.28 a metre for 3mm diameter.
15. Many thanks for the replies. You know, before I owned a Corrado I was an automotive ignoramus and life was easy. I once changed some brake lines on a Mk1 Escort in 1983, but that was about it. Now, with Corrado ownership, everyday is a learning experience. Plastic welding, spare part obsolescence and substitution, paintwork correction and polishing, electrolytic rust removal, automotive rust prevention, sparkplug technology, brake fluid and oil specification and not forgetting, investments, loans and remortgaging. The owners of cars who just put fuel in do not know what they are missing .
16. If you use the Opie product search function for "BKR5E" you get the 4 results in post #1, but not BKR5EKU funnily enough. I think the BKR5EKU is the long-lfe super expensive twin electrode platinum one? The vanilla NGK BKR5E is the plug routinely recommended on the Forum (e.g. see http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?51329-VR6-Oil-amp-Spark-plugs ). But which of the 4 designations is the correct one?
17. Opie lists 4 types http://www.opieoils.co.uk/vsearch.aspx?SearchTerm=NGK%20BKR5E. Which is the recommended one for a VR6? BKR5E BKR5E-II BKR5E-II VG4 BKR5E-VG4 Thanks.
18. Is my memory deceiving me or was there a general 'rant' thread where one could vent? It used to enjoy reading it but now have a need to use it - urgently - thanks to the useless, could-not-care-less, inconsiderate tosser who has dented my driver's door. I know, I know, not the end of the world but FFS... So, where's that thread? :onfire:
19. Thanks to Neal and emu for the interest and assistance. I have got this sorted. Now I just need to do the re-trimming.
20. LOL. That's a very good point indeed. Should be able to find a suitable 'Hartkäse' here: http://www.germanfoods.org/consumer/facts/guidetocheese.cfm
21. Thanks aide. I suspected this was wallet emptying time again. Do you know what type of cheese? Some of them are pretty hard
22. Both pieces=the internal panel plus the surrounding trim for the hole in the headlining.
23. Just wondering how critical it is to use VW hubs and stub axles, or whether OEM pattern parts are OK? I understand that VW parts are preferred for bushes, bearings, drop links, ball joints etc. but haven't come across any discussion on these two bits. Big difference in price, of course. A TPS supplied VW front hub with rotor is £85.00 a side cf. a pattern one at £25.00 delivered. Not sure on the OEM manufacturer (Topran/Febi?). Any advice, please? Cheers,
24. Hi emu, Sounds good. By complete do you mean both pieces? Late car? If so please PM me payment details. Cheers,
